Seriously, I only just found out about this abomination, and I'm so angry that I want everyone involved to be buried up to the neck in sand and then covered in marmalade and ants.

'scuse me, while I Rim the Sky... (snoball), Monday, 7 May 2012 18:11 (eleven years ago) link

i get being dismissive or lol check out this bullshit about the Rock of Ages movie but i don't really understand actual anger, unless you're especially reverent of the stage musical, or the original '80s rock songs, or think the actors would otherwise being engaged in something more dignified. as it is, i'm like whatever guys, go ahead and make a trainwreck, it's not like you were going to make anything of substance otherwise!

some dude, Monday, 7 May 2012 18:15 (eleven years ago) link

i mean sure Baldwin has better things to do but it's not like he took a break from 30 Rock to make this movie or anything

some dude, Monday, 7 May 2012 18:16 (eleven years ago) link

haha i cant wait to hear this thing.

It's not like I think Brand/Cruise/Baldwin/et al could be doing something better with their time - probably anything they'd be involved in would be an undignified mess. And I don't care about the stage musical or the original 80's songs. It's just that I'm insulted that somebody thought that this would be entertainment. I literally just found out, so maybe the anger will wear off. Or maybe not, because of the trio of bellends involved.

this is one of those instances when i would pay good money to have seen the pitch meeting(s) that produced this thing

the real problem is that we're all picturing some feel feel feel feel my heat hilarity and its gonna be ultra competent studio hacks playing karaoke grade compressed covers and a buncha ok singers protooled to acceptability.

Producer A: "Whose career is on the skids that we can get cheap?"
Producer B: "Russell Brand, Tom Cruise, and Alec Baldwin."

Mission:Impossible 4 made ~$700 million worldwide, I think Tom Cruise is doing fine.

"natural one" is so so dope. the guitar hook alone is one of the best things that happened in the 90s.

brimstead, Friday, 28 June 2013 02:40 (ten years ago) link

that Nada Surf song was hella gimmicky but fairly inoffensive but it reminds me of one of the worst summers of my HS life so fuck it

i hated 'she don't use jelly' when i was 12, thought it was stupid and unserious, but i think it's pretty great now.

It sounds kind of like The Crow OST indirectly endangered his life.

It’s the kind of song some emotional 90’s teenager used as lubricant to gaze into the eyes of his 16 year old girlfriend who works in the food court and isn’t trying to fuck him.

never change vice

The Crow OST at #4!

jaymc, Saturday, 7 June 2014 17:57 (nine years ago) link

What makes it great: A melancholy and tortured companion on your worst days, and a deeply dark motivator on the best days.
Really the soundtrack to: Your goth phase.
Most memorable song: "Big Empty," Stone Temple Pilots. Look, maybe it's true that all STP songs sound the same, but that sound is pretty great.
Sleeper favorite: "Snakedriver," The Jesus and Mary Chain. A wonderfully dark and dense take on a classic pop theme: the kiss that changes everything.
Low point: "Slip Slid Melting," For Love Not Lisa. On an album full of songs that your coolest friend still knows by heart, this song commits the sin of being utterly forgettable.

Honestly kind of impressed by the endurance it must have taken to listen to 99 soundtracks in their entirety.

but also

Most memorable song: “Wild Wild West,” Will Smith. OMFG tiny Jaden at the beginning of this track is all of us.

it's buzzfeed. i doubt the research went that deep.

Sleeper favorite: "Talk Show Host", Radiohead.
The perfect song to lose your virginity to if you're the coolest person on the face of planet Earth.
