That bear actually made The Today Show and I saw a segment about him. It wasn't a one off thing, he lives on a farm or something somewhere and learned to wave from all the people who would wave at him. People go there now specifically to get a wave from him.

Story from my neighborhood (relatively speaking):

Bear Injures Raft Guide Camping Along Middle Fork Flathead River

Around 6 a.m., a commercial raft company was on a guided overnight trip with two guides and three clients when a bear entered camp, the release states. The victim, an adult female guide, reported she was sleeping outside on the ground when she sustained injuries from what officials believe was a black bear.

Bear spray was deployed but the bear returned multiple times to camp, according to the release.

The victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Logan Health in Whitefish.

I said to my wife that the bear probably came up and poked at her with its paw, like, "Hey, you awake?" Hope they don't kill it.

Around 4:15 this morning I heard a couple of big banging sounds outside, enough to actually wake wide up and take a peek outside. A bear had knocked over my trash can out on the street (today is pickup day), got upset by the lack of shitty food garbage (compost all the way!), and then decided to go full Kool-Aid Bear through the gate in the fence, across my backyard, and finally Kool-Aid Bear again through the fence I share with my neighbors on the SW side. Somehow, the bear avoided knocking down the rudimentary fencing for our eventual vegetable garden for which I am thankful.

Haven't looked it this thread for ages (am too sad about having gone to parts of Alaska, British Columbia and Yukon on holiday and not seeing a single bear - went on a trip from Ketchikan specifically to see bears, bears did not want to say hi to me), but I am dying here at mirror bear from upthread.

let's think....brown, American black, Andean (aka spectacled), polar, sloth, sun, Asian black, giant panda.

can understand people thinking it might be *slightly* more than that if they don't realise US grizzly bears are the same species as brown bears. And that Kodiak bears are a sub-species of same.

LAKE MARY, Fla. (WFLA) — A three-legged bear known locally as Tripod was caught on camera breaking into a home in Lake Mary, Florida over the weekend and helping itself to some snacks and adult beverages.

Faneite-Diglio told the news station that Tripod had some fish food that was left next to their fish tank and then proceeded to the bar.
