Didn't really care for The Very Best, nor payed attention to them before. I suspect that there's some weird cultural politics in that project, but the video and track have some kind of undeniable power.

Isn't "Dick" pretty much the same idea as Big Sean except they're saying "dick" instead of "ass"

this definitely isn't one of my favorite singles of this year but I just heard it & this is the only thread I can find that mentions it & and I have to ask:

Foxy Shazam - "I Like It"

Is This Racist?

i think this tune is kinda cool and is probably the kinda thing that would be mostly hated here. hope i'm wrong about the latter

nice

yes! i always like how shipz' write-ups start getting lukewarm about five songs in.

for some reason talent show culture is more effective at creating stars in the UK than it's been in American for ages, to the point that their runner-ups are on the radio here more than our champs.

it's long been a running joke that UK XF runners-up do better than the champs - the demographic differences between fans/viewers of saturday evening light entertainment tv and fans/consumers of pop music is one major reason; to win XF you need to be fairly conservative, uncontroversial, "likeable" in the most wide-ranging sense. often when those acts are then thrown into the pop seas they're too bland to survive. cher lloyd and one direction both came along in arguably the XF's peak year, when unusually there were multiple acts you could tell had viable potential pop careers; during the actual series it was as clear they'd do well post-XF as it was that they stood no chance of winning. (cher was too abrasive and the mere fact that she rapped gave british tv audiences the vapours; 1D had the boyband vote and no one else.)

yeah in America it's kind of the same thing where it's clear who has career potential and who's going to win and that those often aren't the same people

I am still shocked that Phillip Phillips has a hit single tbh

Awesome, looking forward to the rock one after hearing Dead Sara's "Weatherman" via you/Maura; always the chance that there's an equiv. to the Patrick Stump album out that I wouldn't hear about otherwise.

XD

your bottom 10 ALMOST has as many good songs as your top 20

J0rdan S., Friday, 30 November 2012 22:27 (eleven years ago) link

it still cracks me up that Maura and I both found out about Dead Sara independently of each other the same week, pretty much the same way xp
