There's one other thing you need to click which I haven't revealed, so this thread doesn't have to die if people can't figure it out by themselves, ok?

dating myself here but I wonder about Horace Mann. I also miss StephenX but I could probably find him irl in DC if he is still here?

quincie, Tuesday, 1 May 2012 15:31 (eleven years ago) link

Horace still posts a bit, has changed names several times since that one

acoleuthic took a long break with a couple of one-off returns, has been posting regularly but sparsely under current name for a little under a year

Todd is around on ILX some. I talked with him at a beer event a few weeks ago, he promised to at least hit the Chicago thread a few times.

Jeff, Wednesday, 2 May 2012 00:41 (eleven years ago) link

I don't remember ever going to an Arby's but I guess I must have because I distinctly remember my parents having several of these BC cartoon glasses that Arby's gave out as a promo item in 1981 and can now be bought on EBAY for $6.49

http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/1/7/0/3/5/3/webimg/427649330_tp.jpg

It's so weird, the random stuff we remember.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Thursday, 17 May 2012 18:37 (eleven years ago) link

wait, andy warhol was gay?

dell (del), Thursday, 17 May 2012 18:38 (eleven years ago) link

arby's, my man. i love your jamocha shakes.

thanks for reading,

brownie

biggie smallclothes (brownie), Thursday, 17 May 2012 18:38 (eleven years ago) link

My parents had those glasses too. I think most of our glasses were fast food promo glasses.

Respectfully, Tyrese Gibson (Nicole), Thursday, 17 May 2012 18:40 (eleven years ago) link

a BC tie-in! that is so fucking low rent, i love it

goole, Thursday, 17 May 2012 18:42 (eleven years ago) link

Oh, man, I totally remember those B.C. glasses.

Hey, arby's, thanks for being the only thing open in downtown Chicago that one Easter Sunday when I had to work. I could have starved to death, but your curly fries saved the day.

Bob Bop Perano (Deric W. Haircare), Thursday, 17 May 2012 18:43 (eleven years ago) link

LOL I can't believe other people remember those damn glasses. YAY! I swear we had at least one of those in our cupboards until at least 1990.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Thursday, 17 May 2012 18:45 (eleven years ago) link

I have never eaten at an Arby's but there's one a mile or so from my house and I took my son in there to go pee a few weeks ago. Smelled pretty nice (the sandwiches not the restroom).

how's life, Thursday, 17 May 2012 18:46 (eleven years ago) link

a BC tie-in! that is so fucking low rent, i love it

haha. b.c. was like the most depressing comic strip ever. when i was growing up my older brothers had peanuts compilations, family circus books, garfield, etc. i would devour them. try as i might, though, i could never make it through this damn b.c. book that they had

also, am i making this up or wasn't johnny hart some way christian dude? if so why is his strip based on heretical evolutionary theories?

dell (del), Thursday, 17 May 2012 18:46 (eleven years ago) link

lol I remember hearing a rumor about how all the "beef" shows up to Arby's in liquefied form.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Thursday, 17 May 2012 18:47 (eleven years ago) link

^yes, i heard that too

biggie smallclothes (brownie), Thursday, 17 May 2012 18:49 (eleven years ago) link

whaaaaat

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 17 May 2012 18:50 (eleven years ago) link

Being Christian is bad enough for someone's who's the author of a comic strip called BEFORE CHRIST, but when you draw strips like these

http://thecereblog.files.wordpress.com/2008/11/bc-slam.jpg?w=500&h=180

you're really not doing any favors for anyone.

pplains, Thursday, 17 May 2012 18:50 (eleven years ago) link

I mean, tons of great cartoonists are proudly religious, they just don't let it interfere with the humor of their profession.

wuz crappenin, me. i ate at me every other day bcz i was right next to my work then changed my screen name to myself and later ppl in this thread made me lol

dell (del), Thursday, 17 May 2012 18:53 (eleven years ago) link

As far as BC/Arby's is concerned, I've been tempted to start a thread devoted to those weird partnerships.

For example:

I stopped at a Roy Rogers on my way back to Toronto from NYC and I ordered a roast beef sandwich excitedly. It was like eating a cutout of a picture of an Arby's sandwich. The worst I've ever had. One bite and I threw it away :*( I was so hungry too.
Jamoca shakes OTM. Those were like crack for me when I was a kid. Possibly because of the caffeine(??)

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 17 May 2012 18:54 (eleven years ago) link

when i was a kid roast beef was just about my favorite food. i remember it being pretty decent at the roy rogers chains. arby's version though was like something you'd find in someone's shoe

dell (del), Thursday, 17 May 2012 18:55 (eleven years ago) link

Dude had a SANDWICH named after him and yet, here he is pushing HOT DOGS.

haha

yeh all fast food places should be partnered with comic strips. what the world needs now is some sbarro pizza/funky winkerbean synergy

dell (del), Thursday, 17 May 2012 18:57 (eleven years ago) link

i remember my friend being kinda outraged when snoopy was in those life insurance commercials. feel kinda the same way about dagwood and curly fries

RabiesAndGentlemen probably ranks among my top 5 least favorite usernames (usernames only-- not posters)

arby's probably ranks among my top 5 favorite

Seriously, a kid buying a Moolatte shake in one of these would be like if McDonalds offered me Katzenjammer Kids mugs in 1981.
