She moved to ny to act.

Great episode. Tableau at the end of the awards dinner was awesome.

s.clover, Monday, 30 April 2012 03:58 (eleven years ago) link

Just realized that was Julia Ormond.

GoT SPOILER ALERT (Gukbe), Monday, 30 April 2012 04:09 (eleven years ago) link

when megan first explains her idea for the heinz thing she really acts like peggy (in season 1)

seriously, THIS GUY (daria-g), Monday, 30 April 2012 04:24 (eleven years ago) link

I couldn't get a read on how Megan felt during Peggy's congratulations. It sort of felt like "uh, thanks."

Johnny Fever, Monday, 30 April 2012 04:26 (eleven years ago) link

I figured it was her feeling a little unsure how to take it, as though maybe she felt semi-guilty for accomplishing something via Don even if it really was all her. Maybe I'm just reading into her dad's speech though.

GoT SPOILER ALERT (Gukbe), Monday, 30 April 2012 04:33 (eleven years ago) link

peggy: "this is as good as this job gets!"

could be that megan is thinking, really? this is as good as it gets? get me the hell out of here!

i mean, maybe she doesn't actually want to work in advertising

seriously, THIS GUY (daria-g), Monday, 30 April 2012 04:49 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, that's what I got out of it. "ok, we landed a pitch for beans. great. why does everybody even care."

s.clover, Monday, 30 April 2012 04:53 (eleven years ago) link

new Bobby looks *younger* than previous Bobby. Eventually Bobby Draper will just be played by a muppet and voiced by Frank Oz.

raw feel vegan (silby), Monday, 30 April 2012 05:23 (eleven years ago) link

they've got to be setting roger up for a hard fall, economically speaking -- the first few episodes see him paying off everybody for favors, and tonight we hear he's still financially supporting his first family, and didn't jane say something last week about how the divorce was going to be difficult/contentious, money-wise?

supreme sundae (reddening), Monday, 30 April 2012 05:59 (eleven years ago) link

hard fall onto the pavement from the window u mean

raw feel vegan (silby), Monday, 30 April 2012 06:00 (eleven years ago) link

Megan's commie dad is gonna kill Roger c'mon

GoT SPOILER ALERT (Gukbe), Monday, 30 April 2012 06:08 (eleven years ago) link

i wonder if matthew weiner has someone on staff who combs through social media every week and says "now they're all saying it'll be roger who jumps out the window!" and matthew weiner laughs and gets out the show bible and changes it to, like, harry or something

INT: DON AND MEGAN'S APARTMENT

BOBBY runs towards the balcony and slips on his own toy, falling to his death. DON looks on, unconcerned.

GoT SPOILER ALERT (Gukbe), Monday, 30 April 2012 06:20 (eleven years ago) link

new Bobby looks *younger* than previous Bobby. Eventually Bobby Draper will just be played by a muppet and voiced by Frank Oz.

There was an author on The Daily Show the other night named Robert Draper, who was probably roughly the age fictional "Bobby Draper" would've been now. I pretended it was him the whole interview.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 30 April 2012 06:25 (eleven years ago) link

That was an understatedly masterful episode. Roger and Sally were just delightful together.

Just realized that was Julia Ormond.

Hah, I thought it was the same actress who plays Lane's wife at first.

post-LSD Roger is a hoot. I was wondering if he was going to go back to Mona, seems like that was kind of a "thing" for that generation, marrying the same person multiple times (cf Liz Taylor etc)

"They make dishes. and napalm"

would watch the Roger Sally show.

Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 30 April 2012 15:40 (eleven years ago) link

It never occurred to me that Roger would be really good with kids, but of course he would.

I wish to incorporate disco into my small business (chap), Monday, 30 April 2012 15:54 (eleven years ago) link

he is one.

Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 30 April 2012 16:00 (eleven years ago) link

Roger's awesome. Also, Leland Palmer!

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Monday, 30 April 2012 16:34 (eleven years ago) link

Ray Wise was great. Totally deflated Don. Seems to be becoming more and more apparent that Don's been coasting professionally for the last couple of years.

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 30 April 2012 16:37 (eleven years ago) link

Didn't Bert make a similar comment re: biting the hand that feeds...? can't remember

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 30 April 2012 16:42 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, I thought at the time that Bert actually quit the company because of that ad.

GoT SPOILER ALERT (Gukbe), Monday, 30 April 2012 16:53 (eleven years ago) link

yeah but it's the WHY exactly Bert was pissed that I can't remember (something about Don putting his own name on it, rather than the firm's?)

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 30 April 2012 16:55 (eleven years ago) link

think it may have been the opposite, he put the firm's name on it and published it but didn't run it by anyone else?

dmr, Monday, 30 April 2012 17:07 (eleven years ago) link

i sort of want to attack Ray Wise and i have no idea why.

Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 30 April 2012 18:10 (eleven years ago) link

I've been looking for this clip from Robocop, where the bad guys are all blowing up cars with futuristic rocket guns and Ray is hanging out doing coke in the midst of all these explosions with the dad from That 70s Show. Sadly, it's not on youtube...

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Monday, 30 April 2012 18:28 (eleven years ago) link

Great episode. Tableau at the end of the awards dinner was awesome.

It was. I wanted it to end on that, but then the actual ending was fun.

I liked it when Don said to Roger "People who haven't taken LSD have also had that insight" as a nod to Roger going on about his trip all the time.

Alba, Monday, 30 April 2012 22:29 (eleven years ago) link

i didn't enjoy the previous week's episode so much as everyone else seemed to, but this was in top form!

i couldn't figure out what megan was having misgiving about after landing the pitch, either. obviously though people are expecting her to follow the path peggy blazed and her gut is telling her to turn her back on it, for some reason. which will confuse and probably infuriate don.

phantompenguin, Monday, 30 April 2012 23:07 (eleven years ago) link

Just discovered that John Slattery is only a year older than Johnny Depp!

Alba, Monday, 30 April 2012 23:18 (eleven years ago) link

i fucking hate glen. worst nepotism-based casting decision since godfather 3.

zverotic discourse (jim in glasgow), Monday, 30 April 2012 23:20 (eleven years ago) link

Slattery doesn't look much different from when he was on Ed, I don't think. I guess they both stopped aging at different times. xpost

GoT SPOILER ALERT (Gukbe), Monday, 30 April 2012 23:20 (eleven years ago) link

i was struck by how old roger looked in the scene where he was flirting with megan's mom. maybe that's just me.

phantompenguin, Monday, 30 April 2012 23:21 (eleven years ago) link

don's innovation on megan's pitch is that he includes the child and description of the child in each scene - it reminded me of the kid in the cage in his earlier commercial. something to unpack about don + childhood probably

also love how the wife of the heinz guy starts to convince him at the dinner ('that's exactly what you wanted...') and kinda betrays that she's maybe much more involved in the business than she lets on

peggy: "we don't need a piece of paper" from the city halls keeping us tied and true. my old man. keeping away my blues.

Mordy, Tuesday, 1 May 2012 00:45 (eleven years ago) link

oh man, this episode is making me giggle, totally breaking my balls here

mh, Tuesday, 1 May 2012 01:02 (eleven years ago) link

this was a great episode, but peggy is making less and less sense to me as a character this season

flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Tuesday, 1 May 2012 01:55 (eleven years ago) link

i mean to say, making less and less sense as a character to me this season

flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Tuesday, 1 May 2012 01:55 (eleven years ago) link

or is that, making less and less sense as a character this season to me

flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Tuesday, 1 May 2012 01:56 (eleven years ago) link

or perhaps, to me, peggy is making less and less sense as a character this season

flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Tuesday, 1 May 2012 01:56 (eleven years ago) link

yeah, i was kinda under the impression she wasn't so happy in her relationship. then she got all excited for his proposal? message: all girls want to be married at heart, even peggy?

Mordy, Tuesday, 1 May 2012 01:57 (eleven years ago) link

She realized giving tuggers to totall strangers wasn't all it was cracked up to be.

Leslie Mann: Boner Machine (C. Grisso/McCain), Tuesday, 1 May 2012 02:00 (eleven years ago) link

but it wasn't a proposal.

she seemed to be bummed out at first about him not proposing, then got used to the idea.

classic misdirection btw: i assumed that joan would be wrong (since she's referring to an increasingly obsolete code of gendered communication) and that abe would be breaking up with peggy. but turns out joan was half-right.
