Nah, all CD, but they're well out of print and generally fetch pretty high prices (assuming the people selling them know what they're selling). And understandably. The UK comps in particular are fantastic.

I've been working my way through all those sealed MOR albums I listed just above, and, halfway through, I've been surprised that not one of them thus far has had an inner sleeve. Probably 99% of the '60s albums I've ever bought have been used, so by the time they reached me someone had included a sleeve. I'd never really given this any thought: when did the inner sleeve become standard practice? Late '60s?

Do you mean any sleeve, or a custom (band or just label) sleeve? I can't remember ever seeing a new LP without a sleeve unless it was a kid's record, or a very low-budget local label type thing. And my older brother was buying LPs in the mid 60s, though I didn't start until 1972.

I thought for sure the Engelbert album would have one--it came out in '69. I haven't opened the Streisand yet. I'm wondering if they were more liable to be issued with rock LPs.

Sometimes I just have to pause and take notice of where life has brought me: pondering the history of inner record sleeves on a Tuesday night.

maybe they were record-club versions?

they might have been resealed by a dodgy mobbed up distributor. distros would take record store returns and reseal them and sell them back to stores as dollar bin records. you can usually tell if on the back cover there is a seam running the length of the record in the middle. they sometimes didn't bother putting sleeves on them.

i've seen sealed records from the 60's and 70's that didn't even have covers. just generic 12 inch covers and full-length major label records inside. they might get a big batch of somewhat defective records without sleeves or the covers might have been damaged in shipping and they figured, hell, maybe someone will pay 50 cents for the record anyway.

but what I wanna know is .. what's up with 'sealed inner sleeves' ?? those perforated circular plastic covers over the actual LP. was that actually a thing at some point??

I've bought two in the last year ... a Dave Clark Five greatest type thing and Ricky Nelson's 'Million Sellers'. both LOOK great, so i'm inclined to believe its was a thing. and not a scam

Scott: I know records get resealed, but as I mentioned earlier, most of these ones have the original price tag still affixed; also, I'd be surprised if anyone was taking the time to reseal Robert Goulet or Jerry Vale albums.

No! I own nothing by them. But I'd figure they'd probably be up my alley too.

After two or three listens, though, that Curtiss A album is pretty much a snooze. I'll give it one more try.

Blotto seem like an EP-sized band to me (haven't listened yet), though I guess I should hear their bar-band and metal parodies someday.

What's on Cash Cows? That sounds familiar.

Never owned it--I used to pass up $1 copies in the early '80s (inexplicable, but I just didn't buy soundtracks), and I've often thought about how stupid that was. Cash Cows is Virgin stuff circa '80: XTC, Human League, Captain Beefheart, Flying Lizards, etc. The country compilation is the kind of traditional stuff I like: Ferlin Husky, Webb Pierce, Hank Locklin, Patsy Cline, etc.
