Leave it be, Martin.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Monday, 28 June 2004 20:32 (nineteen years ago) link

perhaps I am happier not knowing. Life is often like that.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 28 June 2004 20:33 (nineteen years ago) link

Awwww... Not meaning to make a joke at the expense of you, Martin.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Monday, 28 June 2004 20:35 (nineteen years ago) link

That's largely what I'm here for, surely?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 28 June 2004 20:40 (nineteen years ago) link

Well, as penance, I just had an interesting date with someone really smart and interesting but who is totally "not my type" and I'm not really attracted to. Ah well. I think the friend rating should've been much higher than the match one.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 03:23 (nineteen years ago) link

All the rocket ships are climbing through the sky
The holy books are open wide
The doctors working day and night
But they’ll never ever find that cure for love
There ain’t no drink no drug
(ah tell them, angels)
There’s nothing pure enough
to be a cure
for
love

I am glad I deleted my account when I did. good times though.

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 14:06 (nineteen years ago) link

i got a reply from an okcupid person! but the reply was all "yr. interesting and i'd love to send an interesting reply but i'm too tired."

what now? i figure, wait a few days and write something else pleasant and interesting but not too long?

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 20:50 (nineteen years ago) link

Yeah, that sounds sensible (I speak as a man with loads of dating site experience!). I sometimes just wait, on the basis that if they don't write again they can't be terribly interested, but I guess I'd do what you suggest if I was definitely very keen.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 21:01 (nineteen years ago) link

I sent some people some things last night. Whoo! I am an alcoholic.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 21:50 (nineteen years ago) link

Q: Is it wrong to befriend a 17 year old if she lives in Hawaii and I have no chance of ever actually meeting her?

Aaron W (Aaron W), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 22:57 (nineteen years ago) link

no?

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 22:59 (nineteen years ago) link

wait! would it be wrong coz of the 17 part of the not meeting part!? i mean if you have no chance of meeting her you should let her know from the start so its not like yr. leading her on!

also i guess making friends with hawaiians can be considered a bad idea in general if yr. some sort of weird anti-islander racist?

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 23:00 (nineteen years ago) link

Oh yeah, I'm PeskyPole on this. I forgot I made an account. I have no idea what I'm supposed to do with it, and I keep clicking "skip this question" cause I keep getting hit with dumb ones.

(Dude, Aaron, it can't be wrong to befriend someone.)

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 23:01 (nineteen years ago) link

Okay, cool. I felt like I was getting to be very close to being internet perv. And I have no problem with Hawaiians. As long as they don't have a problem with me.

Yeah, so Sterling... You should write her again in a day or so. "Pleasant and interesting but not too long" is always the way to go.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 23:04 (nineteen years ago) link

Isn't being an internet perv what okcupid is all about? The only girls who msg me are 17 or eighteen year olds from far away. WHY?

Ian c=====8 (orion), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 00:42 (nineteen years ago) link

i love on MYCREEPSPACE the number of people who message me and then reveal their age as actually being under 18
you should do it back - "cool, 'cause I'm 8!"

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 00:50 (nineteen years ago) link

Ian, I'm offended. I am 24 years old.

The person I'd most like to trade brains with:

Eminem i mean why not he iz so fine!!!

ron (ron), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 13:35 (nineteen years ago) link

haha the reason i had to click on her profile was because the caption on her pic said "this iz my pic that i took by myself!"

ron (ron), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 13:38 (nineteen years ago) link

two weeks pass...
I've just had another approach, explicitly about sex, from another 19 year old. I swear the picture I put up there is actually of me. I don't understand it at all.

this is how easy it is, to type.

JUGNBBDDBJNKLKJMHTYURFRT VYBJNTFJRDYRTUFYFBU

I could do it all day.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Saturday, 17 July 2004 11:55 (nineteen years ago) link

if I had to write out those characters, by hand, I probably wouldn't bother.

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 17 July 2004 11:58 (nineteen years ago) link

Okay, I get it, but it's still a bad joke.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Saturday, 17 July 2004 12:00 (nineteen years ago) link

you don't get it.

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 17 July 2004 12:13 (nineteen years ago) link

I have only had one woo, and it doesn´nt even count because it was RJG and he was just being polite because I wooed him first.

RJG, there are a few words in your typing, just by chance. You´re almost like the monkeys who get given typewriters for a long time and they end up writing Shakespeare. Where is that from?

Cathy (Cathy), Saturday, 17 July 2004 13:14 (nineteen years ago) link

I found "jug", "buy, "bel", "biv", and, not so surprisingly, "devoe."

WTF, only the first few words of my post appeared there!? I was supposed to post this:

A couple of days ago I got

Tuomas (Tuomas), Saturday, 4 September 2004 11:38 (nineteen years ago) link

A couple of days ago I got a friend of mine to put her profile on OKCupid. None of my real life friends had had their profiles there before, so it's kinda interesting to check whether the "compare" tool actually works, now that I can use it to someone I actually know. OKCupid seems to at least verify that our friendship is on solid ground: she's a 90% match with me, making her my number one straight match in Finland.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Saturday, 4 September 2004 11:39 (nineteen years ago) link

Okay, I got it know, I messed up with the HTML. Sorry.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Saturday, 4 September 2004 11:40 (nineteen years ago) link

Oh dear, maybe I shouldn't have put that link to her profile there. Please don't message her or anything.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Saturday, 4 September 2004 11:41 (nineteen years ago) link

haha your 6 posts cheered me right up.

I'm thinking of re-registering with this but i dunno.

Ste (Fuzzy), Saturday, 4 September 2004 12:06 (nineteen years ago) link

Haha, I guess the lowest form of comedy is an idiot repeating the same mistake again and again. I'm glad it did something good.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Saturday, 4 September 2004 12:14 (nineteen years ago) link

last night I dreamt that I got wooed. Wtf, I haven't even used this thing in ages!

Tuomas (Tuomas), Saturday, 4 September 2004 15:48 (nineteen years ago) link

I was just enjoying your funky "A couple of days ago I got" loop, Tuomas. Also your friend is cute.

Paul Eater (eater), Saturday, 4 September 2004 15:55 (nineteen years ago) link

I guess she is, especially when riding a wolf.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Saturday, 4 September 2004 15:58 (nineteen years ago) link

But please don't message her, I feel guilty for posting her profile here.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Saturday, 4 September 2004 16:00 (nineteen years ago) link

I think I need to find some photos of me that aren't me wearing weird outfits while v.drunk in bright light (or, uh, me in a gas mask running down a hallway in a derelict building). & have chosen a username other than "pumice-tron". & haha, ricardo's my 2nd-highest match in the world!

etc, Saturday, 4 September 2004 23:38 (nineteen years ago) link

ok so forserious question -- when coldcalling/writing some cool person on one of these things, what works better -- short friendly note on some element of their profile (film, book, etc.) -- or longer streamaconsciousness friendly thang like you might write to someone you already know?

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Sunday, 5 September 2004 03:52 (nineteen years ago) link

former gives em less to respond with, but latter can be overwhelming?
