There's something on the RIP thread, too:

I've only got Gilded Palace and a compilation, so there's a lot I don't know, but "Christine's Tune" is an all-time favourite:

I saw Pete Townshend play this at a solo show in 1997. He introduced it with a story about riding around California with Gram Parsons in 1969 and telling Gram, "I think you're great, I think your group's great, I think you'll be really successful..." Gram said, "Well, thanks, Pete. 'Cause we're starving."

H'm-m-m, what was he spending his trust fund on? Read a claim by one of his pals, that he was so wasted when went to pick up some loot, they had to take him in a wheelchair. Water under the bridge--get it while you can, musically, that is http://bbchron.blogspot.com

just a few years back it felt like a baby-boomer rock star's death was an unusual thing, now it's happening everyday. a helpful reminder of how short our lives are.

Chris Ethridge was in the International Submarine Band, too, although he may not have played on "Blue Eyes," my favourite song by them--he joined after it had already been out as a single (but before the album was completed).

RIP Chris Ethridge. those three co-written Gram songs are gems

was looking through my collection last night - i've got a lot of chris ethridge! randy newman, ry cooder, burrito bros, graham nash., that dave mason solo album... wonder what his contribution to those parsons co-writes was. I mean, if you were going to pick the best Parsons songs to have co-writes on, those'd be up there.

Burrito Deluxe is pretty under-rated in the FBB/Parsons canon. "Older Guys"..."Lazy Days"..."Man In The Fog"...

yeah, "man in the fog" is so great, love the middle verse from the mom's POV

"image of me" is pretty much the perfect country song, and the FBB do a great version.

also, this comment from way back re: that avalon discmichael clarke surprisingly solid on the drums!errr, he really is barely keeping it together. that recent post-parsons gig they put out is a lot more solid rhythmically.

gilded palace >>>> gp > third burritos record > grievous angel > burrito deluxe

i guess i might put burrito deluxe in front of grievous angel, but i have come around hard on gp. great record.
These guys are a bit of a blindspot for me, despite loving a lot of similar stuff from that era. Gilded Palace of Sin is the one to start with, right?
