Cool, hope he has a sister called Peel then

Charles Kennedy Jumped Up, He Called 'Oh No'. (Tom D.), Monday, 16 April 2012 14:31 (twelve years ago) link

"commentators are required by FA guidelines to refer to Ruel Fox by his full name at all times"

These guys are the best. Current heroes include Leighton Baines, Charlie Adam, and (rather uninspiringly) Scott Parker.

Jean Joel Perrier-Doumbe, whose winning goal in the 2007 Scottish Cup Final remains the only goal of his entire career.

For reasons best known to myself (which I cannot explain), I spent a very long time the other day - apropos of some reason I can't even remember - trying to remember Helder Postiga's name. And now that I have remembered it, it is stuck in my head.

I liked Joe Doumbe better than most of his replacements.

Mitchell Burgzorg (born 25 July 1987) is a Dutch footballer who currently plays for Bulgarian A PFG club Ludogorets Razgrad.

r|t|c, Saturday, 26 May 2012 15:19 (eleven years ago) link

If Burgzorg can help the Dutch Lions defense at right back and help his rapping career at the same time, and that gets him to the Dutch Lions instead of Cambuur, more power to him.

Also I have a feeling looking at the first video that Mr. Burgzorg/Priester might be a marketing coo for the Dutch Lions if they can bring him on board.

Emerson

whose full name is apparently

Emerson Moisés Costa

I was trying to remember who it was that fucked off from Middlesbrough because his wife said it was cold and shite. I'd completely forgotten his wee spell at EBT-era Rangers.

i was thinking of the various brazilians who decamped to boro earlier tonight

used to have a fondness for them, gibson is the most admirable of the various small town made good types who used to predominate

nakhchivan, Friday, 20 July 2012 23:28 (eleven years ago) link

It was Christian Karembeu with the Middlesbrough-averse wife. Unless there was a whole raft of them (quite plausible, I expect).

ailsa, Friday, 20 July 2012 23:32 (eleven years ago) link

We got post-Boro Juninho for five minutes, his impact at Celtic was about the same as Emerson's at Rangers. As far as I know he's the only World Cup winner to ever play competitively for Celtic (Bobby Charlton played for us in a testimonial).

Emerson was famously unsettled and at one point he pissed off to Brazil without permission. I thought his wife complained about the cold - there was definitely some family-related excuse.

was it Emerson who said - "I looked on Middlesbrough and knew it was a cold and terrible place"

We don't have a football boots thread, do we? I was trying to find Bobby Charlton in the Hoops and found this instead

62/- (that's £3.10 kids) for a pair of Bobby Charlton Brazilias. Bargain.

"We didn't move here for the weather. When we first looked at the countryside I didn't think anything could grow here because there is no sun.

Emerson, who will not play at Leeds tomorrow even if he returns today, laid bare his problems in a Portuguese newspaper. "I am starting to live a drama," he said. "My wife is ill. She doesn't like Middlesbrough as she feels it is too cold. I find it hard to concentrate on football as my wife is unhappy living in Middlesbrough."

such times as we'll never see again

Nottingham Forest have quashed speculation that they will be selling Ian Woan to Tottenham for pounds 3m, and Birmingham have turned down an offer from Bolton for Mike Newell, the striker they signed for pounds 775,000 from Blackburn last summer.

Uefa, European football's governing body, responding to the Bosman ruling on transfer fees and attempting to help smaller clubs, has proposed that players should be signed on long-term contracts until the age of 24, during which time they will be subject to a transfer fee, and after which time they will be available on free transfers.
