What is the EI home channel?

polyphonic, Monday, 9 April 2012 17:32 (twelve years ago) link

Extra Innings has a "home channel" where the screen is split into eight telecasts. The default audio comes from the top-left telecast, but you can move around to hear the other telecasts and select a channel/game from there.

Apologies for the confusion -- didn't realize that THIS new Strike Zone is the work of MLB Network, not Extra Innings.

Andy K, Monday, 9 April 2012 17:59 (twelve years ago) link

Oh right. That's pretty nice. But I don't have Extra Innings, so a cheaper RedZone -alike would be great, even if it's only a few days a week.

polyphonic, Monday, 9 April 2012 18:03 (twelve years ago) link

Starting April 10, the service will broadcast in a live, whip-around fashion on Tuesdays and Fridays during the MLB regular season, beginning at 7 p.m. ET,

So this has to differ from MLB Tonight, right? It would be great it was similar to their daily anchor/analyst-free highlight segments.

Andy K, Monday, 9 April 2012 18:06 (twelve years ago) link

YEAH, Strike Zone it has just been added to DirecTV, commercial free:

Per Channel 719. "MLB Network Strike Zone HD. Tuesday & Friday nights. Available with MLB Extra Innings and/or Sports Pack."

Bee OK, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 02:15 (twelve years ago) link

so i just got home from work, turning on the Strike Zone channel now.

anyone watch this yet today, how is it?

Bee OK, Wednesday, 11 April 2012 01:54 (twelve years ago) link

so i have been watching a bit of this. they seem to go away from games a little too fast for my liking. maybe i just like watching innings and how they build instead of this instant stuff.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 11 April 2012 02:51 (twelve years ago) link

Bee OK, Thursday, 12 April 2012 05:32 (twelve years ago) link

so i was looking forward to the Phillies vs Giants game tonight as it was Lee vs Cain.

--------------i see right now in the 10th 0-0.--playing the Lakers game instead because i can't watch.

i wrote this on someplace else:

i looked in the on air guide and saw that tomorrows game (which is now today) is going to be broadcast on MLB Extra Innings channel 747. i get home from work and see that "Phillies vs. Giants" is gone on channel 747 and only "To Be Announced" is displayed instead. so i'm pissed and i call in. spent over a half an hour on the phone they transferred me to the technical dept and they told me yes it is suppose to be on. the tech tries a bunch of different things tell me that he has escalated this and to keep watching and it will be on shortly. i'm so mad, this was Lee vs. Cain tonight.

i just got my renewal notice from DirecTV for the 2013 season:

You are all set to enjoy another exciting season of MLB EXTRA INNINGS. We are renewing you at the lowest price of 6 payments of $33.33/month...

total price for this year is $199.98, so it actually went down $ this year.

i will tell you how it goes when i call DirecTV and try to get a discount again this year.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 5 February 2013 03:07 (eleven years ago) link

it went down 9.96 this year, number lock became unlocked.

Split mlb.tv with my father, this is pretty awesome. The stream to my Roku looks every bit as good as via cable.
Comes with the Extra Innings app - that means I can stream all the radio broadcasts (except for local), right?

er, At Bat app

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Wednesday, 27 March 2013 05:55 (eleven years ago) link

I think you can even stream local audio. Blackouts only apply for TV broadcasts, iirc? Pretty sure I listened to a Jays game or two last year via that app.

Samsung Galaxy SB (Will M.), Wednesday, 27 March 2013 13:46 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, local audio isn't blocked, just tv. I listened to a lot of Braves games when my cable co couldn't figure how to flip a switch on Peachtree TV days.

vpn for $7/month or $40/year is getting me around blackouts on mlb.tv (and nhl games) -- though only on my computer, i think, because the mlb ipad app demands that you allow it location access

mookieproof, Thursday, 4 April 2013 01:23 (eleven years ago) link

You can set some routers to run through PIA's servers, which would let you get around blackouts on TV and on your iPad. The modem/router I have to have for my Time Warner Cable plan won't let me monkey with IP addresses, unfortunately. I don't lose too much - I'm more interested in Giants/Red Sox games than the Rangers or lolAstros.

just got a Genie, repost for myself:

If you do a smart search and key in AALL HDTV GIANTS CCHAN 696 then press the red button to do the keyword search and choose Show Types and then Events, it should catch only the Giants live games on CSN BAY AREA. If you do an autorecord, you can specify extra time to add to the end of the recording.

i'm still in disbelief, the blackout policy is no more!

http://www.bizofbaseball.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=5925:fox-releases-2014-mlb-broadcast-schedule-blackouts-eased&catid=57:television&Itemid=122

. As reported on Forbes SportsMoney, this year sees a slight easing up on national blackouts as part of the new agreement. Starting this season, subscribers of MLB Extra Innings and MLB.TV have the opportunity to watch Saturday MLB on FOX games subject to certain geographic black outs that protect games assigned to local FOX affiliates.

http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/mlb/mlbtv-offers-access-to-world-series-all-star-game?ymd=20140227&content_id=68422572&vkey=news_mlb

Beginning in May, MLB.TV subscribers for the first time will have the ability to watch live regular season games not being shown on FOX broadcast television in their respective territories. Using this year's first FOX Saturday national broadcast window as an example, here is how the new access applies to MLB.TV subscribers:

On May 24, the FOX Saturday national broadcast schedule features three regionally distributed games beginning at 7 p.m. ET: Cardinals at Reds, Nationals at Pirates, and Royals at Angels. Any MLB.TV subscriber in the FOX viewing territory of the Cardinals-Reds game would be able to watch the Nationals-Pirates and Royals-Angels games live on any supported device.

In previous years, MLB.TV subscribers would have been subject to national blackout restrictions for all three live games. The same policy then would be applicable to MLB.TV subscribers in the FOX viewing territories of the other two live games.

The accessibility to games previously blacked out to MLB.TV subscribers was introduced as part of the eight-year multi-platform media rights agreement MLB and FOX Sports announced in October 2012.

According to an Associated Press interview with MLBAM chief executive Bob Bowman, (the MLB.tv blackout policy) may soon change:

"Everyone's trying to solve it," Bowman said. "If our hands were 4 feet apart three or four years ago, they are now 6 inches apart," Bowman said. "We're moving in the right way. We continue to talk. The dialogue is professional."

With ESPN acknowledging that at some point in the future, but not for at least five years, that they might need to offer their programming a la carte, there is an understanding that the current bundling system will not last forever. While only a portion of cable subscribers are sports fans, cable companies continue to negotiate deals that put networks like ESPN on the standard cable tier with high per-subscriber fees, perhaps worried about erosion from its overall base of customers who might not get cable without sports. MLB has the ability to provide it’s product directly to consumers with MLB.tv, it is aware of a potential shift, and it is open to in-market streaming of games, a potential godsend to those currently blacked out of watching many of the games they wish to see.
