FWIW, Dr. Who has gotten pretty big over here in the states recently for some reason.

Do all you non-Americans get all the elaborate Kickpuncher jokes?

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 9 April 2012 00:24 (twelve years ago) link

reagan references, no?

Mordy, Monday, 9 April 2012 00:30 (twelve years ago) link

No, it's an elaborate riff on this obscure '80s short-film series called "Punchkicker." If you look on eBay you can still find some fan-compiled VHS collections.

I don't understand why this has become the de facto thread for people who want to start acting like massive dicks completely out of left field.

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 9 April 2012 23:58 (twelve years ago) link

I guess I'm lucky to have gotten through eight years here without having to deal with much dumb ad hominem bullshit, but if people wanna ruin this thread startin' pointless beefs...come at me bros, I guess?

1 of paper = 4 of coin (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 00:10 (twelve years ago) link

deric come to the 'not bothering much w/ the Community thread anymore' side, it's wonderful over here

ghostface protocollah (some dude), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 00:33 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah, I was kinda over this thread when it became cool to hate on the show, but I got sucked back in...well, because I'm a moron, apparently.

1 of paper = 4 of coin (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 00:41 (twelve years ago) link

yo dwc i enjoy community but your fanboy defensiveness in responding to every single non-adulatory post is about as meaningless and annoying as thomp's posts itt

JIM THOMETHEUS (zachlyon), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 00:57 (twelve years ago) link

There's alot more talk here about how everyone here hates on Community than there are posts of people hating on Community.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 01:03 (twelve years ago) link

whiney psyched y'all out

ghostface protocollah (some dude), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 01:05 (twelve years ago) link

anyway, episode left me a bit cold. i agree with whoever said it should've just been photos and interviews and letters and stuff. the really funny things could've been shared with cheap phone recordings. and after all that setup i was disappointed the main conflict was solved so simply and then it somehow managed to recenter the show on jeff rather than troy/abed.

JIM THOMETHEUS (zachlyon), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 01:10 (twelve years ago) link

Mmm...I admittedly fail more often than I'd like to make it clear when I'm joking on ILX (despite my fandom, my defensive posts have been fairly tongue-in-cheek), but I feel like I'm a little more successful at not being a straight-up asshole. Ymmv as to which is more irritating, I guess.

1 of paper = 4 of coin (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 01:10 (twelve years ago) link

you're not being an asshole, you just can't seem to post in this thread without acting like everyone else is committing a crime against humanity. that's understandable when you're talking to ppl trolling like whiney but you're acting the same towards a bunch of people who just want to discuss the show like anyone discusses anything else on ilx typically, which -gasp- includes positives AND negatives. if you don't want the latter just stick to the av club bro

JIM THOMETHEUS (zachlyon), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 01:25 (twelve years ago) link

don't bro him if you don't kno him

mookieproof, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 01:31 (twelve years ago) link

I'll own my half dozen or so (apparently) flopped joke "OMG show's so bad now, amirite?" posts, but aside from that and a few dick joke riffs, I think I've posted my share of seriousness itt. Hint: my serious posts have been pretty butthurt-free up until the last couple of days.

Another angry Chevy voicemail, this one from March, 2011.

Dancing with Mr. T (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 17:39 (twelve years ago) link

The quantum mechanics party is Hugo-nominated now, going up against three Doctor Who eps, and I think the Gaiman-penned story is some stiff competition

Choad of Choad Hall (kingfish), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 18:02 (twelve years ago) link

damn, chevy:

Chase then goes on to complain that most of his improvised attempts to get that signature brand of Chevy Chase-funny just end up being edited out, usually in favor of dumb and pointless things like character development or “story”:

"There are two choices. One is the story line—like everybody gives a shit about the fucking story when they don't even know who the characters are. Or, there's make people laugh...[My scene is] cut down. For what? So people can follow the story line between Joel and Gillian? And love affairs and kissing? Come on, man! You're missing the fucking point! I mean, this is not my kind of comedy. I thought you hired me for what I can do that's funny. You've got to give me some range. And then you’ve got some fucking editor with no fucking sense of humor—and no sense of me—cutting things down to the point where I just look like an asshole! I don’t like it."

[While] Chase avers that he really likes Harmon and thinks “your writing is great...everything you do is great” (to which Harmon giggles in the background), he then makes the by-now familiar vow that he’s not going to put up with any of it for much longer.

“If you want me on this show again, I have news for you: I don't want it...it's just a mediocre fucking sitcom. I want people to laugh, and this isn't funny. It ain't funny to me, because I'm 67-years-old and I've been doing this a long time, and I’ve been making a lot of people laugh a lot better than this.”

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 18:42 (twelve years ago) link

Final episode of the show should be all the hilarious Chevy improv scenes that got cut.

President Keyes, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 21:58 (twelve years ago) link

If the gag reels are any indication, the only improvising Chevy does is forgetting his lines and missing his cues all the fucking time.

Dancing with Mr. T (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 22:01 (twelve years ago) link

tbf those gag reels were probably cut together by someone who hates him

some dude, Wednesday, 11 April 2012 00:46 (twelve years ago) link

and calling other cast members "assholes" for getting their lines right and meeting their cues

┗|∵|┓ (sic), Wednesday, 11 April 2012 00:50 (twelve years ago) link

has he ever successfully improvised?

mookieproof, Wednesday, 11 April 2012 00:53 (twelve years ago) link

did he improvise that gag with the soft serve ice cream a few eps back? because my parents chuckled at it and were like "classic chevy humor" while i thought it was embarrassingly tedious

techno pink (reddening), Wednesday, 11 April 2012 00:58 (twelve years ago) link

that definitely felt like it was a sop to him, a "go on then" to let him prove how much more hilarious he is than Troy & Abed

┗|∵|┓ (sic), Wednesday, 11 April 2012 01:15 (twelve years ago) link

community is super awesome, but it has yet to surpass fletch in greatness. abed would agree with me.

Lamp, Wednesday, 11 April 2012 01:48 (twelve years ago) link

Chevy is the funniest part of the show tho

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Wednesday, 11 April 2012 14:38 (twelve years ago) link

the anti-chevy sentiment itt is a little over the top but that's a bit too far in the opposite direction

some dude, Wednesday, 11 April 2012 14:40 (twelve years ago) link

I loved Fletch, etc. but it is baffling to me that someone could think that.

the 2006 episode of Law & Order in which Chevy plays a drunken movie star who calls a police officer "sugar tits"

some dude, Wednesday, 11 April 2012 14:55 (twelve years ago) link

Lol you guys are so funny. I'm serious. I think he has the best one-liners.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Wednesday, 11 April 2012 14:57 (twelve years ago) link

Chevy gets some of the best one liners but also some of the clunkiest bits, and if some of those are his own idea that might explain a lot.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Wednesday, 11 April 2012 15:33 (twelve years ago) link

don't forget the faltermeyer multiplier helps fletch.

the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Wednesday, 11 April 2012 15:46 (twelve years ago) link

chevy's really funny, i love his bits. but the show can live without him. i'd rather it didn't though.

I accidentally sonned your dome (stevie), Wednesday, 11 April 2012 15:58 (twelve years ago) link

the faltermeyer multiplier would make a fantastic display name
