they are another band

Anything else and you're either having a laugh or a pitchfork reader who hasn't heard the other albums.

the true answer is that they're kind of a mediocre band. let's not get all ANGRY METALHEAD about a band that really doesn't deserve it, unless you're going to be consistent and start posting angrily in food threads and shit.

also: PINK, not having a laugh, don't read pitchfork, welcome to cognitive dissonance.

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Monday, 15 October 2007 17:56 (sixteen years ago) link

I really like Amplifier Worship and plenty of other bits and pieces I've heard/got, but they've always been a band whom I'm just happy that they can keep on keepin' on without feeling the need to buy into the whole collector scum thing

DJ Mencap, Monday, 15 October 2007 18:22 (sixteen years ago) link

Sorry, but "Dronevil" on vinyl played at a volume that is too loud for anything beats "Amplifier Worship." Maybe it was just the speakers, though.

who else does their peculiar mix of doom/stoner/punk?

not snark, actual curiousity.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Wednesday, 17 October 2007 04:41 (sixteen years ago) link

no one - doesn't make them 'great' in my mind. who else sounds like gogol bordello? nobody, still a shit band.

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Wednesday, 17 October 2007 05:16 (sixteen years ago) link

who else does their peculiar mix of doom/stoner/punk?

Such an original band clearly chose a name like Boris out of thin air!

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 17 October 2007 06:04 (sixteen years ago) link

oh, right, the melvins.

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Wednesday, 17 October 2007 06:09 (sixteen years ago) link

"If the name appears as "Boris" or "boris," then, the music is most likely an experimental recording.[1]"

As on Akuma no Uta, but is that really one of their more experimental recordings?

btw there's TWO different versions of Vein (I have both) 1 of them is a 2 track "noise" version" and the other is a 12 track "hardcore" version.
The 2 track was mailed only to those people who live outside N America.
So that it would take a week for people to find out that Boris had screwed everyone over by making 2 different versions (i think there's 1100 of the US version and 400 of the Euro. I got lucky and got mine for what my friend paid for his which was the standard price. It's handy knowing people who can get me ltd us only stuff. This albumw as $100+ on ebay at the time.

oh and sorry for pissing off all you *Pink fans. I think I've been on the Southern Lord board for too long!

Flood was amazing live when i saw them play it this year. best 40 mins of a gig I've seen in a looong time.

If I am a fuck who likes Farewell from Pink the best, which LP do I listen to next?

caek, Thursday, 18 October 2007 23:49 (sixteen years ago) link

Akuma no Uta.

Pink is so totally gonna win this you guys

stephen, Friday, 19 October 2007 00:22 (sixteen years ago) link

feedbacker is fuckin huge but i like blackout on pink and a lot of the faster thrashin tracks with the dueling leads pump me up

voted feedbacker though

trashthumb, Friday, 19 October 2007 00:52 (sixteen years ago) link

The 2 albums with Merzbow are missing too. But the live album is shit anyway. Terrible sound on it. I doubt anyone would've voted for either of them anyway. I don't see Vein getting (m)any.
The album with Sunn o))) I do enjoy a lot yet there's plenty who don't so I'll be interested to see if it gets any votes.

BIG HOOS, that's what I meant when i posted "Akuma No Uta" below caek's post.

W4LTER, Friday, 19 October 2007 01:01 (sixteen years ago) link

Not that I was voting for it.

But I think i did vote for it anyway.

W4LTER, Friday, 19 October 2007 01:01 (sixteen years ago) link

right, i gathered, just seconding.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Friday, 19 October 2007 01:13 (sixteen years ago) link

The songs on Heavy Rocks and Akuma No Uta are better than the songs of a similar style on Pink.
So You have to check out Heavy Rocks and Akuma No Uta.

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 19 October 2007 01:13 (sixteen years ago) link

exactly.

W4LTER, Friday, 19 October 2007 01:15 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm glad someone agrees.

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 19 October 2007 01:49 (sixteen years ago) link

So… Nothing from them this year? How odd.

(I've only got Feedbacker, Pink and Akuma No Uta, and I think I like Akuma most).

I eat cannibals, Friday, 19 October 2007 02:10 (sixteen years ago) link

Try Heavy Rocks then. But really, the early stuff is untouchable. They've released so much in the past few years the quality control has suffered.
There has been lots of ep's in the past year. Another lp with merzbow is out next week I think.

Hah I just realised "Sun Baked Snow Cave" isn't in the poll either. Do you hate Merzbow? ;)

or the split 2xlp with Doomriders!

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 19 October 2007 03:08 (sixteen years ago) link

I didn't know both their surnames were Album, Geir.

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 19 October 2007 18:08 (sixteen years ago) link

Sun-baked Snow Cave is pretty cool, actually. I don't listen to it often, but when I'm in the mood it works.

Mark Clemente, Friday, 19 October 2007 18:12 (sixteen years ago) link

It's the best of the with Merzbow releases.

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 19 October 2007 18:15 (sixteen years ago) link

Are we going to have a shock winner? Will justice be done and Heavy Rocks and Akuma No Uta beat Pink? Or is it a landslide for Pink?

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 19 October 2007 21:40 (sixteen years ago) link

only 6.25 hrs

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Friday, 19 October 2007 21:41 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm genuinely shocked by how good it is. I feel like they've been increasingly hit or miss in recent years and that my days of being absolutely wowed by them were in the past, but happily proven wrong with this one.

New one, W, is great! Love how it builds from like this almost subdued, hazy dreampop vibe and builds the noise and sludge as it goes along.

was delighted to discover "rainbow" was available to stream after i'd lost my cd copy and couldn't bear to break the seal on my vinyl copy.

also lol, but perfectly in character with the band, that there are two different boris bands with selective sections of their discography on spotify.
