while i could certianly see how mu would find that annoying/infuriating/something, it's relieving to find out that the incident was seemingly relatively minor, and that someone who's worked with them prior is looking forward to working with them again.

isn't music what matters most in the end?
i feel like what happens between all these people is their business, and makes a poor subject for a thread.
i'd rather hear if someone knew of a new MU or Playgroup album, anybody heard anything?
what are all these people up to?

This would probably be a bad time to ask when the vinyl version of How to Kill the DJ is getting released, wouldn't it?

from the pain of the record label collapse comes the joy for cheapskates like me.

fopp are selling off the back cat cds for £3 each :

colder (cd/dvd, dead combo, mu, circlesquare, dempsey, black strobe ep, and channel 3

oh, and the playgroup reissue double cd with remixes.

lovely.

I really was hoping that joakim was the 'tigerbastard' and that he would return fire on disc at some point. bring on the disco not disco beef!

yeah i liked that one and the How to cure dyslexia track but on the whole the tracks just made me feel like output RIP was no great loss, which is sad. the Mauin tracks were particularly bad.

eleven months pass...

rumours abound that Output is back.
anyone know more ?

mark e, Friday, 14 September 2007 15:31 (sixteen years ago) link

There's a compilation coming out in October called I Hate Music, a Jackson-curated 2xCD+DVD "best of," but I haven't heard of anything past that...

supposedly someone has picked up the back cat, and will be reissuing it.
oh, and there is also the Kings of Electro set that Trev has sorted out with Alter Ego on BBE, but thats not really Output related so doesn't provide any real insight into the Output story

Fantastic news if true- I've been driving myself crazy trying to find a replacement for the copy of Afro Finger & Gel I lost.

Word from distro here is he's bringing his label back to life with new releases scheduled etc.

blunt, Friday, 14 September 2007 16:22 (sixteen years ago) link

Holy shit, even better!

Telephone thing, Friday, 14 September 2007 16:26 (sixteen years ago) link

that Mu record was on tigersushi

unless Output licensed it or something

dmr, Friday, 14 September 2007 17:44 (sixteen years ago) link

Output released it in the UK, and for a while it was the only version in print. If it's ever coming back into print, Output is the most likely candidate, given how their relationship with Tigersushi ended up.

a few remixes are out there - i'm seriously loving the remix by Optimo of To The Music by Colder.

You sure it's not just a posthumous roundup type thing? Pretty good listen for the most part but I've not seen anything saying they're back for good

DJ Mencap, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 14:14 (sixteen years ago) link

(other than mutterings above)

DJ Mencap, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 14:15 (sixteen years ago) link

yup, they're just back for some reissues. no trevor involvement whatsoever.

stirmonster, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 14:19 (sixteen years ago) link

i stand corrected. a reissue campaign type of thing it is then.

mark e, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 15:51 (sixteen years ago) link

two years pass...

well, the reissue thing never really happened did it.

the people behind the process label (the current Output catalogue owners) tried to run with it, the excellent rebotini (ie. black strobe) release would have been a perfect fit for Output, as well as the pretty fine Toob album, but i lost interest after those.
