Hmmm . . . how does one say "Plug it up!" and "They're all going to laugh at you!" auf Deutsch?

Frank Youngenstein (Phil D.), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:13 (twelve years ago) link

Oooh, MrDasher has just reminded me I need to watch Onibaba before we vote in this. Fortunately I have the DVD, yess. Also one for AP's list, if he doesn't mind older stuff...

emil.y, Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:16 (twelve years ago) link

The Criterion transfer of Häxan is in my queue on Hulu. Must watch before this gets to the voting stage.

Frank Youngenstein (Phil D.), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:17 (twelve years ago) link

I am adding all these titles to the doc. Will do cleanup later when I'm not pretending to work.

hot and brothered (Eric H.), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:18 (twelve years ago) link

oh, i do hope to bring the lolz w/ my Italian-free list.

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:19 (twelve years ago) link

What else will your list be devoid of, aside from scares?

hot and brothered (Eric H.), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:20 (twelve years ago) link

oh, i do hope to bring the lolz w/ my Italian-free list.

So no Taxi Driver on your ballot?

1 of paper = 4 of coin (Deric W. Haircare), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:22 (twelve years ago) link

It's perfectly possible to do an amazing Italian-free horror list, but I don't know why you'd purposefully want to cut off your naso to spite your faccia.

emil.y, Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:25 (twelve years ago) link

Funny Games (1997)
High Tension aka Haute Tension

Night of the Demon & Curse of the Demon are the same Tourneur film, right? that's a goodie.

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:27 (twelve years ago) link

I believe so but there are a couple Night of the Demon's IIRC...

What else will your list be devoid of, aside from scares?

two of the most boring films of the Carter Administration, Alien and The Shining.

Eric and I both like Kiyoshi Kurosawa a lot, strangely.

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:28 (twelve years ago) link

that reminds me -

Night of the Hunter, The

I will transmit this information to (Viceroy), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:33 (twelve years ago) link

really confused about the lack of distinction between horror and suspense/thriller itt. if M. and NIGHT OF THE HUNTER are nominated without remark, can i nominate FRENZY (1972)?!

idk i will just vote from the list you ppl draw up.

marc iv, Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:34 (twelve years ago) link

wait did anyone say

Mulholland Dr

?

marc iv, Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:34 (twelve years ago) link

hahaha too late marc I already nominated Frenzy...

Now let's pummel genre definitions to death!

I will transmit this information to (Viceroy), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:35 (twelve years ago) link

I know what you mean. I might also have to be quite strict on the distinction between horror and giallo. Maybe. Depends on quite how full to bursting my list gets. Night of the Hunter has been accepted into the horror cannon for a while, though.

xxpost

emil.y, Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:35 (twelve years ago) link

The Strangers
Antichrist
Night of the Creeps
They Live
The Fly (1986)
Shallow Grave

picture jean rollin (Pillbox), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:36 (twelve years ago) link

oooh I need to rewatch Shallow Grave. The one time I saw it was when I had the worst/first hangover of my life when I was like 14. I don't remember it much except for a guy drilling holes in the ceiling.

wd've been fine with orig Texas Chainsaw Massacre finishing waaaay ahead of Ghostbusters in comedy poll, btw

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:39 (twelve years ago) link

MPD Psycho isn't a film, it's a TV series! It's one of the greatest TV series ever, but still, it doesn't count for this poll.

Also, I thought The Eye was a bit rubbish.

emil.y, Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:40 (twelve years ago) link

Ditto.

hot and brothered (Eric H.), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:40 (twelve years ago) link

Of course, I'd root for that movie in a romance poll.

many of my nominations are probably pushing what could be called a "horror" movie:

Jacob's Ladder
Naked Lunch
The Grudge
Tales From The Crypt: Demon Knight
Saw
Dracula (1931)
Interview With The Vampire
Blade
Underworld

last house on dead end street

Awesome nom!

TV movie = OK
TV series = No

hot and brothered (Eric H.), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:43 (twelve years ago) link

:( no Kolchak: The Night Stalker

Frank Youngenstein (Phil D.), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:43 (twelve years ago) link

Frank Youngenstein (Phil D.), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:44 (twelve years ago) link

Rocky Horror Picture Show

God, Music and Romeo and Juliet (DJP), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:44 (twelve years ago) link

nominations threads are good just so it gives everyone a chance to talk about a bunch of movies before they vote, imho

A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:44 (twelve years ago) link

fair enough

xps

diamanda ram dass (Edward III), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:45 (twelve years ago) link

Edward III - there is a whole world of difference between a TV movie and a TV series. I shake my head at thee.

emil.y, Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:45 (twelve years ago) link

eh kinda think of MPD as a miniseries so

warning: last house on dead end street will place high on my ballot

diamanda ram dass (Edward III), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:45 (twelve years ago) link

A miniseries is still a series! There is no way you can get around the fact that it just isn't a film.

emil.y, Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:46 (twelve years ago) link

I'll keep it on the list if you're really going to vote for it, edward iii. But, yeah, it's not going to get much support.

hot and brothered (Eric H.), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:47 (twelve years ago) link

dude I've been wanting to see a bunch of these (God Told Me To, Blue Sunshine, Suspiria, Tetsuo: the Iron Man) forever

Year of the RMDE (loves laboured breathing), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:47 (twelve years ago) link

The Little Girl Who Lives Down The Lane
Pumpkinhead

Frank Youngenstein (Phil D.), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:47 (twelve years ago) link

I kind of want it struck from the list because I don't want to see it languishing at the bottom like an unloved film, when it should instead be seen as a much-loved TV programme.

emil.y, Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:48 (twelve years ago) link

liked Tetsuo: the Iron Man.

horror is way cleverer, has better cinematography, more plot, deeper characterisation

B+ trolling, but shitty tech qualities actually HELP many horror films... early Romero, Cronenberg before he moved to the adults' table, etc.

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:48 (twelve years ago) link

Hmmm . . . maybe at some point we should poll "monster movies" separately from "horror movies."

Frank Youngenstein (Phil D.), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:48 (twelve years ago) link

Pan's Labyrinth?

God, Music and Romeo and Juliet (DJP), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:48 (twelve years ago) link

Morbs sort of makes a valid point, but I'd argue they're expertly deployed shitty tech qualities.
