Meyers is on year 11.

Good catch. Actually, I should've just said "6-11," since none of them (Meyers, Armisen, Thompson, Sudeikis, Samberg, Wiig) debuted later than fall 2005.

Sudeikis has been kind of the glue of the show for a while imo, i may actually miss him

I will definitely miss him in What Up With That.

by many many miles the best thing about those scared straight sketches

balls, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 22:55 (five years ago) Permalink

Comparing Sudeikis to Piscopo is f'in weird.

Horrible Bosses made 200 mil ww. I don't think Joe Piscopo's combined filmography made that much money.

Okay, maybe Dana Carvey, then. And yes, I know there were extenuating circumstances for his career's nosedive, but still.

Again, I feel the need to point out that I like Sudeikis a lot and wish him the best, but if he's quitting SNL to pursue a film career, I'm not sure that he fully recognizes his own strengths/weaknesses. I think he'd do really well in an ensemble sitcom cast, though.

Yeah, they need to stop doing 'What Up With That?' full stop if he isn't around to contribute.

he's norm peterson's nephew iirc.

And Olivia Wilde is Alexander Cockburn's niece!!!

i wonder if the other lonely island guys will continue to write for the show if samberg leaves?

― techno pink (reddening), Wednesday, April 4, 2012 6:45 PM (1 hour ago) Bookmark

taccone already left a couple years ago and i kinda wonder if schaffer even does much besides the digital shorts. samberg has been seemingly doing more live sketches lately but half of them are practically overtly making fun of how shitty samberg's impressions are.

damn I was really hoping Sudeikis would get a full movie for his 'What Up With That?' character

I DIED, Thursday, 5 April 2012 01:15 (five years ago) Permalink

it could happen, clearly Kenan is sticking around until he gets his Ladies Man moment

Anyone else get the impression Drunk Uncle went on a little bit longer than scripted this time? Moynihan was in the zone.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 9 April 2012 18:30 (five years ago) Permalink

For the second time, when Drunk Uncle started I thought I'd hate it, but both times he killed it. "Is this wi-fi organic?" Was that the line? Something like that.

And Almost Pizza was SNL at it's best.

dan selzer, Monday, 9 April 2012 18:35 (five years ago) Permalink

Laughed out loud at almost pizza and drunk uncle. I'm such a hypocrite.

pplains, Monday, 9 April 2012 18:39 (five years ago) Permalink

Lotta consensus here. Weekend Update winds up being a high point of the show more often than not these days, thanks largely to Hader and Moynihan. Another sure-fire high point being whatever Killam's doing in a given week. His star is on the rise, for sure.

Looks like the Zooey Deschanel Show is the new sketch they're going to suck all of the laughs and charm from through endless reiteration. This one was fine, but Lorne's predictable writing is on the wall.

Kristen Wiig does a really good Drew Barrymore impression, but ruins it by not even resembling her in the slightest. Armisen looks more like Barack Obama than she does Drew Barrymore.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 9 April 2012 19:07 (five years ago) Permalink

Didn't love new girl in the Bravo skit but thought she was great as Penelope Cruz trying to read the complicated words.

dan selzer, Monday, 9 April 2012 19:10 (five years ago) Permalink

drunk uncle was the most i'd laughed at SNL in a loooong time

how many of them have run? i'd like to see him again

Mississippi Butt Hurt (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 9 April 2012 19:19 (five years ago) Permalink

I think he's done it 3 or 4 other times.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 9 April 2012 19:19 (five years ago) Permalink

That Penelope Cruz skit was so wrong but I laughed so fucking hard at it

"Penelope, I'll help you; RE-FRIG-ER-A-TORRR!"

God, Music and Romeo and Juliet (DJP), Monday, 9 April 2012 19:56 (five years ago) Permalink

Jay Pharaoh should be doing shit like the school principal all the damn time and Will Smith and Jay-Z impressions very little of the time. Let the man breathe!

Moynihan's dancing during the Empire State of Mind sketch was great. Gotye seems like a chill bro. Loved the open with all the GOP hopefuls at the bar. Laser Cats 7. Josh Brolin was pretty great each time he was on screen, especially in the aforementioned high school dance sketch.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 15 April 2012 05:53 (five years ago) Permalink

Californians was pretty amazing.

Seconding Jay Pharaoh expanding out. I will say that I thought his impressions tonight were more comedically heightened. Like he added little tics so it was less straight forward. I hope he doesn't get the boot.

I fell asleep after the second Gotye performance (btw that dude owns) but that stupid Empire State of Nind skit had no business being as funny as it was

Also loved The Californians and the slow hallway. Actually I really enjoyed most of what I saw.

an independent online phenomenon (DJP), Sunday, 15 April 2012 14:39 (five years ago) Permalink

You'll need to watch the final high school dance sketch on hulu or something. Even better than the last time they did it.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 15 April 2012 15:26 (five years ago) Permalink

Loved this sketch and how Taran Killem was able to make the same stupid face that Kit Harrington makes.

the californians bit just had me thinking: really, new yorkers making fun of people for ALWAYS talking about directions, that's not right.

I just watched Almost Pizza and then the very next video I watched had an ad for DiGiorno before it

Kate McKinnon's only on her 3rd episode and I think I love her already, "What Is This?" and "Helga Lately" are great

o wait no she was the guest. was it her?

mizzell, Sunday, 6 May 2012 04:44 (five years ago) Permalink

Uh, no. No, it wasn't.

And, yeah, she seems like she's gonna be pretty good for the show. She might make for a decent Wiig replacement. Lorne's probably gonna start trawling failed sketch shows for more performers like her and Killam.

You Don't Throw Oranges On An Escalator (Deric W. Haircare), Sunday, 6 May 2012 04:46 (five years ago) Permalink

I know she's ridiculously underused, but do people really not recognize Abby Elliott?

You Don't Throw Oranges On An Escalator (Deric W. Haircare), Sunday, 6 May 2012 04:52 (five years ago) Permalink

wait was that Abby Elliott? nvm, "Helga Lately" was dope though

some dude, Sunday, 6 May 2012 04:54 (five years ago) Permalink

Great show tonight. Eli was stiff, but was at least given funny things to do. Court room sketch had me laughing out loud.

Loved "What Is This?" and "Helga Lately" too. And Eli's "Little Brothers" bit was on par with Peyton's "United Way" thing from a few seasons ago.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 6 May 2012 05:23 (five years ago) Permalink

I don't love Abby Elliott.

I thought it started strong but the last few skits were clunkers.

Was impressed with Eli. I usually get bummed when they have sportsfigures on, sometimes they're suprisingly great, but most of the time they're terrible. He was stiff, but he didn't constantly fuck up his lines and had some good moments.

dan selzer, Sunday, 6 May 2012 07:06 (five years ago) Permalink

Yeah, they definitely gave him some decent material and he was game and not distractingly stiff.

In the Cheech & Chong bit, the line "Let's just call NASA and explain what happened" cracked me up for some reason.
