since we can no longer rely on Aeroplane to produce guaranteed instant joy, TITTW we post remixes, summer jams, etc that recreate similar spirit

The French Express label (Perseus, Chris Malinchek, Jonas Rathsman, Moon Boots) has been the leading light of this stuff for a year now. Moon Boot's "Sugar" from earlier in the year is more or less a remix/edit of Janet's "If", and its still flawless.

The blog The Last Gas Station does decent work covering the sub-genre. Some pointers: The Magician's Magic Tape set lists (they're all on La.Ga.Sta), Surf Ambassador Hendo's setlists, every thing on the French Express label, most Kitsuné label compilations, and half of Youtube user Majestic Casual's uploads.

Of current note, French Express, just mentioned above, now have a UK #2 with Chris Malinchak's "So Good to Me". And early stalwarts Classixx finally brought out their debut album Hanging Gardens.

Tons of freebies on soundcloud from the standout names like Plastic Plates, Perseus, Gigamesh, Moon Boots, Villa, Moonlight Matters, Breakbot, Yuksek, Goldroom, Flight Facilities etc.

Have I mentioned how much I love Moon Boots? I LOVE Moon Boots:

thank you. many of the stuff are too poppy for me but there are definitely some gems there.

Probably too poppy for Durrr cubed, but the Kitsuné Soleil Mix 2 sounds promising.

For the price of a Facebook like, the fixie bike manufacturer Solé sponsors monthly hour-long mixes by sunshine disco producers. Classix, Gigamesh, Goldroom, Oliver, Plastic Plates, RAC, Treasure Fingers etc. each have an installment, with tracklists typically available at the artists' Soundcloud page.

Ariana and the Rose – In Your Bed (Oliver Nelson Remix) on Soundcloud was quite nice too.

Closest would be the rolling Tropical House thread.

Does anyone still listen to Vito's or The Magician's mixes? I see them come up on my feeds but don't think I've listened to one in over three or four years. Stephen's Magic Tape mixes are into the #60s now.

groovypanda, Wednesday, 8 June 2016 08:52 (seven years ago) link

Vito's only doing one or two a year now; I'm sure I listen to them but they don't make any impact. Haven't listened to a Magic Tape since before I Dont Know What To Do came out.

Listened to (the song) We Can't Fly yesterday though, and it still holds up. Having not heard the album, I'm happy to think of the song as a culmination of the Aeroplane project

they don't make any impact

I've seen Vito DJ solo a couple of times since the split without really making an impact either tbf. but it was fine? crowd was dire the second time, so

I feel like songs from The Knocks and Classixx and Satin Jackets albums from this year all belong in this thread.
