Think I prob first heard "Surrender" in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

this thing where more people in the UK want to go to see the Fall than Cheap Trick is possibly the biggest UK/US divide I've learned about from ILX

I think the first time I heard Surrender was in Over the Edge

and I am an American who would totally go see the Fall instead of Cheap Trick

but Surrender still owns

I would go see the fall AND cheap trick but given the choice I would go w/cheap trick

I first heard it in "over the edge" which used to on HBO constantly when I was a kid and has a pretty awesome soundtrack.

I really did not get The Fall until one day in 2011 I suddenly loved them. It was weird.

More people at ATP would rather go see The Fall than Cheap Trick - most people in the UK have never heard of either - which in Cheap Trick's case is possibly the real UK/US divide.

Speaking as an Amurrican, I probably like the Fall more than Cheap Trick, who did have a handful of unassailable songs (everyone forgets the UBER classics like "Southern Girls" and "Elo Kiddies").

I love the Fall, have seen them live half a dozen times, but couldn't turn down the opportunity to see Cheap Trick. Anyway I'm taking this to ILM to prevent further derailment.

I do think that to the average Briton Cheap Trick probably sounds like the Status Quo with more spunk or something, whereas in the US they were first-wave new-wave, grouped together with Blondie and The Cars, y'know: almost punk!

I knew Surrender from Fast Times At Ridgemont High, plus Dream Police and If You Want My Love, and of course The Flame and Don't Be Cruel which were briefly favorite songs when I was 13 when my ears were still made of wood.

Mr Veg helped me fill in the blanks and then The Sex-America-Cheap Trick box set changed my life permanently, Cheap Trick-wise.

I didn't know anything about Journey, or Tesla til I moved here...I knew REO Speedwagon though.

Can't imagine being a boy on the verge of puberty and seeing my mom naked on the reg.
