it's fun. they're basically remixes of "the sound of violence" by cassius.

either that or it's the curse of ILX

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Monday, 28 May 2012 15:24 (five years ago) Permalink

but really though have you got the whole schedule

they can't be nixing all the mix shows cos they just gave one to seani b

so are they replacing q or is it just gonna be cameo or...

cameo must suck a great dick for how long he's lasted there ahead of so many better djs

oh soz trace i was so blinded by the red mist i missed the link

r|t|c, Monday, 28 May 2012 15:37 (five years ago) Permalink

the shape of things seems to be "older" well-loved male DJs seen off in favour of B.Traits and a 21-year-old named Yasmin from Manchester who may be great for all i know but appears to have 0 following

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Monday, 28 May 2012 15:43 (five years ago) Permalink

1xtra as breeding ground for r1 was a great move but this is just throwing the baby out with the bathwater

fucking "simulcasts", pure hack n slash costcutting masked as brand integration & streamlined unity of purpose

r|t|c, Monday, 28 May 2012 15:48 (five years ago) Permalink

yeah i can't think 1Xtra feels too great now about being 1's "sister station"

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Monday, 28 May 2012 16:06 (five years ago) Permalink

thing is 1xtra ought to be the sister station though, hauling it out of its ghetto and positioning the station like that was its great success of recent years - and besides, the landscape has changed and blurred enough so the two's remit has grown closer anyway. (you could even argue 1xtra has had a direct role in shaping that). but a sister should have a vibrant life of her own and not be hostage to the brother the way it looks like it'll be now.

getting back to the subject of q, i just can't stress enough how much of a travesty it is him leaving and cameo getting to stay on as garage tsar. why is this the one time the old dj gets to stay on? there's nothing q can't do that cameo can - q is an exceptional grime dj on the sly and has all the contacts just the same (especially as grime booms outside of london), he is the hot thing in the clubs, he produces excellently and has the media coverage, and his sets include, encompass and reinvent every facet of ukg new and old. i could go on. it's just terrible.

r|t|c, Monday, 28 May 2012 17:51 (five years ago) Permalink

did any of you ever actually listen to his show btw cos i never really got that impression

r|t|c, Monday, 28 May 2012 18:00 (five years ago) Permalink

i did, but not as much as i would have liked! it's frustrating because i don't listen to the radio at that time of night so "play again" was really the only way, but sitting at my desk is not the usual place i listen to music.. a self-expiring 7-day podcast would be ideal for shows like this but afaik that technology doesn't exist for that exactly

This Is What I Stand For by DJ Femme Fatale
Deep House, Tech House, Minimal, House, Techno- Uploaded 5 months ago

Since his departure from the station in 2007, Richie felt time was right for a change in direction. After doing so much for the UKG scene from it's inception, his focus turned to house, in particular the Jackin' Chicago styled house, which immediately appealed to his taste in feel good funky music. Playing music became a pleasure once again, with Richie being a weekly contributor to rising internet station Chicago House FM from 2008 - 2009.

two weeks pass...

I can not believe that DJ Q won't be on 1Xtra come September... Apart from DJ EZ's Friday night show on Kiss, there's no where else to get a full show of UK Garage! I know DJ Cameo is meant to be pushing UK Garage, but it seems like he's more interested in playing Hip Hop and Dutch House music? Anyone else noticed this?

haha awes

i always felt the word ineffable might someday have a secret modern mileage as in "cannot be effed with", like a thoroughly british tea & scones 'unfuckwitable'

r|t|c, Wednesday, 20 June 2012 12:56 (five years ago) Permalink

yeah I started thinking about that double meaning after this thread was started (it wasn't on my mind for the tropical 2 thread though) - it suits dj q obv.
