how have you never seen a Bond movie

The longest period between Bond movies (1989 to 1995) was also probably the time in my life when I would've been most likely to have seen one.

that entire thing might as well say:

I had strained peas for dinner. I never thought about growing old when I was younger and the indignities aging would visit upon my body; the infirmity visited upon my limbs, the rapid deterioration of my eyesight, the unpredictable and embarrassing episodes of incontinence. Even now I don't know that I can trust that my mind is formulating coherent thoughts and that the words I am using to express myself are lucid once they have been written down. And yet, amidst all of this, the largest indignity I suffer is eating. That, and I like an extraordinarily crappy Madonna album. A MINUS

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 27 March 2012 23:33 (twelve years ago) link

That's kind of like what I imagine my writing is like in my nightmares.

Like, you know that dream everyone apparently has where they suddenly and belatedly realise they're naked in a public place? My equiv is a computer screen flashing up:

Julia Holter - Ekstasis
9/10

You don’t give yourself over to Ekstasis so much as inexorably lose yourself within its glistening contours and fleeting visions of potentially misremembered moments of interpersonal, emotional, and spiritual enlightenment. Forget about “finding yourself”; everything, it seems, is all around us, yet each grasp at concrete experience inevitably yields a recession into the shadows from whence these feelings came. But then we remember, as if awakening from a dream: this is not ekstasis, this is ecstasy. This is not the shackle of an ontological reality, but euphoric possibility perpetually drawing us on toward its horizon, like a lost memory that lives on as desire. With Julia Holter, with this profound and inexhaustibly gorgeous album, we can transcend our own transcendence and find the greatest bliss in the joyful renunciation of what makes us us. And all we have to do is go outside.

naah, I disagree with that - there are early TMBG demos that have the same sound as The Pod. it's more than "they're silly", because B&B is the only band I'd describe as "silly". Ween & TMBG - both have a 2-man core, both started very young, both recorded with drum machines, both hopped all over the place genre-wise, both later got a full band and "normalized" a bit, etc.

It was at some patio in NYC w laurel and ally and vic? Plus others and there were vague attempts made to make it to a boredoms show but instead my (future) wife and I got shithoused and ended up walking back to park slope for like 5 hours totally lost. Either that or some other nice dude in NYC is prob still confused as to why some hammered asshole kept referring to him as dr. Morbius every so often in a bar, which is more possible than I would like to admit.
