and "Incidental Peace" with Skylab

all things must pass (shaane), Thursday, 22 March 2012 20:24 (five years ago) Permalink

The Wire cover really really should be on there as well.

Venga, Thursday, 22 March 2012 20:29 (five years ago) Permalink

I'd like a good copy of "2" while we're asking.

all things must pass (shaane), Thursday, 22 March 2012 20:44 (five years ago) Permalink

Also the remix of "Soon" is missing

Mark G, Thursday, 22 March 2012 21:16 (five years ago) Permalink

This just in from Kevin Shields: "I had forgotten about that Wire cover. Going to delay the reissues for a year or two so I can remaster it."

tylerw, Thursday, 22 March 2012 21:30 (five years ago) Permalink

yeah, "2" from la la la human steps would be da bomz

fwiw, i think mbv's cover of map reference is one of the greatest covers of all time. not just because i'm a fan, but b/c it epitomizes what a cover really and truly should be

kelpolaris, Thursday, 22 March 2012 21:33 (five years ago) Permalink

mmm, Lovetone Meatball.

Chewshabadoo, Thursday, 22 March 2012 23:29 (five years ago) Permalink

one month passes...

Not in my hands - from their Facebook page.

Spencer Chow, Friday, 27 April 2012 17:02 (five years ago) Permalink

An appropriate cover for the comp there.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 27 April 2012 17:06 (five years ago) Permalink

is anyone putting these out in the US, or am i gonna have to import?.
for some reason amazon has them listed at like $50 apiece.

BringTheAuBonPain, Friday, 27 April 2012 22:00 (five years ago) Permalink

I pre-ordered from where they're about £9 + shipping which comes out to about $20/each.

Spencer Chow, Friday, 27 April 2012 22:09 (five years ago) Permalink

Actually, I just checked and it was only $44.87 for all three shipped to the US.

Spencer Chow, Friday, 27 April 2012 22:12 (five years ago) Permalink

I am going to play these so loud.

Spencer Chow, Friday, 27 April 2012 22:13 (five years ago) Permalink

hmmm so only 2 of these correlate with those 3 songs that leaked a while back, interesting!

zappi, Friday, 27 April 2012 22:15 (five years ago) Permalink

hmmm. don't like How Do You Do It at all.

heavy is the head that eats the crayons (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 27 April 2012 22:20 (five years ago) Permalink

thanks, spencer. just pre-ordered.

BringTheAuBonPain, Friday, 27 April 2012 23:34 (five years ago) Permalink

No problem. You might want to check US two days before it ships from the UK to see if the price has gone down here - though I doubt it will.

Oh man, the end of Angel is so

Mad God 40/40 (Z S), Saturday, 28 April 2012 01:21 (five years ago) Permalink

why do i feel like the new mix of "angel/bilinda song" is minutely, but noticeably enough, slower?

kelpolaris, Saturday, 28 April 2012 06:35 (five years ago) Permalink

If it is slower, then it's entirely possible that during the original mastering somebody asked for it to be speeded up slightly, it might not have been written down in the mastering notes and/or Shields forgot during the remastering process.

Dick Move's Wardrobe (MaresNest), Saturday, 28 April 2012 07:58 (five years ago) Permalink

I guess it was a bit of a rush to get these remasters out, so it would be easy for something like that to be missed.

Chewshabadoo, Saturday, 28 April 2012 09:08 (five years ago) Permalink

yeah, can everyone ease off and give kevin shields a little more time to work on these? everything is so rushed these last 20 years!

Mad God 40/40 (Z S), Saturday, 28 April 2012 15:33 (five years ago) Permalink

has antyone got a copy of the new remasters? are they different from those 'remasters' that are all over torrent sites etc from 2008?

piscesx, Saturday, 28 April 2012 15:36 (five years ago) Permalink

Those prices are really cheap. The whole lot with shipping converts to $45.10, whereas the EPs in US Amazon alone are $28. I wonder if that's for a limited time.

Fastnbulbous, Saturday, 28 April 2012 16:43 (five years ago) Permalink

so what is up with the second disc of loveless just being loveless again?

the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Saturday, 28 April 2012 16:57 (five years ago) Permalink

the 2nd disc is remastered from the analog tapes or something.
you can never have too many copies of loveless.

BringTheAuBonPain, Saturday, 28 April 2012 18:06 (five years ago) Permalink

the first was loveless as you remember, the second was meant for kevin's chinchillas

kelpolaris, Saturday, 28 April 2012 18:38 (five years ago) Permalink

so I'm assuming if you play them both at the same time, the waveforms that are inverted cancel each other out and all that remains is the mysterious third album.

the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Saturday, 28 April 2012 19:52 (five years ago) Permalink

No, it's actually me going "Ah, hello, I'd like to talk to you about a very, very special album close to my heart. You might know it. It's called Loveless. First, let me set the scene." And so on for fifty minutes.

yes! it's back to them playing guitars like on the second side of isn't anything, only a step further along, with some of the sweetness they were drifting towards on tremolo, &c. it could go on forever

OK, actually an interesting read, now I'm halfway through.

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 30 April 2012 19:12 (five years ago) Permalink

That song is pretty awesome. Also has about 10% of the reverb modern 'MBV-influenced' bands tend to use.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Monday, 30 April 2012 19:15 (five years ago) Permalink

unreleased tracks are on youtube

tbh kinda torn b/w wanting to listen to them RIGHT NOW & waiting to get my hands on something of respectable quality. What a fantastic surprise! I honestly had no idea that there would be unreleased material included w/ the remasters (or they'd ever even happen themselves obv).

fishermen are coveted by whores & stoners (Pillbox), Monday, 30 April 2012 19:26 (five years ago) Permalink

They've been around for about 3 years anyway.

Blimey: My Bloody Valentine 20-year old demos surface?

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 30 April 2012 20:20 (five years ago) Permalink

those paragraphs about how "everything's brought up to zero" don't fill me with confidence.

koogs, Monday, 30 April 2012 20:59 (five years ago) Permalink

That's an interesting interview, especially the treatment by the record labels.

Let's Talk About Socks (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Monday, 30 April 2012 21:25 (five years ago) Permalink

yeah saying one of the tracks had to be a "sacrificial lamb" to get everything up to a louder volume is kinda :S

That's a pretty funky dance, Garfield. Show me how you do it. (frogbs), Monday, 30 April 2012 21:27 (five years ago) Permalink

so which remaster of loveless is better, the new one or the old one from the analog tape? is there a huge difference?

two streams

alex in mainhattan, Tuesday, 1 May 2012 19:38 (five years ago) Permalink

both streams are almost exactly the same loudness, the analog one seems *slightly* less compressed and easier on the ears

diamonddave85, Tuesday, 1 May 2012 20:14 (five years ago) Permalink

will have to withhold tru judgement until i can blast this on my stereo at home

diamonddave85, Tuesday, 1 May 2012 20:17 (five years ago) Permalink

LITERALLY no difference on those 2 streams.

piscesx, Wednesday, 2 May 2012 03:27 (five years ago) Permalink

sure, a crappy stream of something that dude carefully remastered for one specific audio format only and to be played loud on an actual hi-fi, that'll prove lots

┗|∵|┓ (sic), Wednesday, 2 May 2012 03:37 (five years ago) Permalink

No Cassette edition?

(I have the minidisc edition already)

Mark G, Wednesday, 2 May 2012 08:52 (five years ago) Permalink

So far it seems like the underwhelming 2008 promo leak was in fact genuine. Meh.
