are eastman and laird the luckiest men in the twentieth century?
Possibly matt groening is a little luckier.

at least 'life in hell' used to be great. tbh i think eastman and laird's original comics are pretty mediocre. my fondest TMNT memories are of the arcade game.

hell yeah the arcade game- NEW and game boy iterations also p good

NES version was great except for that one level where you had to defuse the underwater bombs. prob among my most frustrating childhood experiences.

I don't think any tbh qualifications are needed here

Loving this old Supes!

Maybe it's like there's an alien fungus that comes down and mutates the turtles.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 02:06 (twelve years ago) link

His suit looks like it's made of wool, which has to be nice when flying around in the upper reaches of the troposphere! xp to self

um, he's Superman

Number None, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 02:09 (twelve years ago) link

superman was from an alien race iirc

⚓ (gr8080), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 02:15 (twelve years ago) link

Superman can love wool even with super powers.

Marilyn Hagerty: the terroir of tiny town (Abbbottt), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 02:18 (twelve years ago) link

Why would an alien race not appreciate a versatile, insulative, and comfortable textile?

Marilyn Hagerty: the terroir of tiny town (Abbbottt), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 02:18 (twelve years ago) link

If the new Ninja Turtles make a point of loving wool, I'll watch this movie.

Marilyn Hagerty: the terroir of tiny town (Abbbottt), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 02:19 (twelve years ago) link

Also v practical for re-entering earth's atmosphere, as wool doesn't burn (in comic book sense, not so much irl)

Smart guy, that Superman

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 03:00 (twelve years ago) link

If Superman were genuinely concerned with indestructibility, we would've woven a costume out of his own pubic hair.

(I am so, so sorry.)

i am still flabbergasted almost 20 years later on how much of his tmnt money kevin eastman managed to flush down the toilet and STILL be a multi-gazillionaire.

peter laird always seemed like an alright dude though.

speaking of: Laird's eyes roll out of his head, tongue bursts through cheek in reaction

haha that's pretty great

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 22 March 2012 06:05 (twelve years ago) link

it also gives me stomach cramps thinking about just HOW many turtles will be in this terrible Michael Bay movie

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 22 March 2012 06:06 (twelve years ago) link

i'm ok w/ the turtles being aliens as long as there is a 1/1 pizza/explosions ratio

if they don't call this film "TEENAGE MUTANT HERO TURTLES" in the UK, well, fuck off

Bo Jackson Overture (King Boy Pato), Thursday, 22 March 2012 10:42 (twelve years ago) link

The UK title was always more sensible. If they were meant to legitimately be ninjas, they did a pretty shitty job of it.

AnnieHalldonia (Deric W. Haircare), Thursday, 22 March 2012 12:40 (twelve years ago) link

in the Mirage stuff?

┗|∵|┓ (sic), Thursday, 22 March 2012 12:45 (twelve years ago) link

The original movie has ninja in the title in the UK iirc

Number None, Thursday, 22 March 2012 12:48 (twelve years ago) link

Well, in the early Mirage issues, our band of turtle warriors were much more faithful in their adherence to the ancient art of ninjitsu, but in subsequent appearances, they simply employed a number of martial arts techniques against their increasingly-bizarre rogues gallery, without much of an attempt at achieving or maintaining ninjitsu's trademark aura of invisibility. If I were given the opportunity to speak to the foursome, I would ask them to reconsider the cavalier usage of the word 'ninja' in their self-styled nomenclature.

That should all be read in the voice of Kip from Napoleon Dynamite, btw.

AnnieHalldonia (Deric W. Haircare), Thursday, 22 March 2012 13:06 (twelve years ago) link

Foot soldiers were changes from humans to robots in the cartoon. I'm sure there was pre-internet fan backlash then.

goole, Thursday, 22 March 2012 15:21 (twelve years ago) link

I beat that game after a month of playing nothing but that underwater level

IIRC, you are rewarded with another underwater level

oh god it's like that platforming element in double dragon 2

goole, Thursday, 22 March 2012 15:28 (twelve years ago) link

That underwater level is a cakewalk compared to the Technodrome. That game is brutal.

Vanilla Ice super OTM about this

I've had a few people on Facebook going absolutely bonkers over this (in a bad way), and it's crazy. The last TMNT movie got awful reviews and the franchise has always been commercial as hell so what's the problem?

frogbs, Thursday, 22 March 2012 20:53 (twelve years ago) link
