Hey thanks, that's really handy.

I need to try and put together a mix of some of my favorites, it's been a while since I made a new one.

pattern loader, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 12:56 (twelve years ago) link

an old favorite of mine fits here pretty well...

Low Res - "Speculative Reminiscing"

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 13:18 (twelve years ago) link

It's much more on the rarified headspace tip than the dank sleaze perpetuated in the rest of this thread, but don't hold that against it

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 13:19 (twelve years ago) link

unfortunately it's not on youtube.

anyone remember this?

loving this thread.

I dunno if this actually counts or not, but just today we released this:

http://www.junodownload.com/products/vibe/1935564-02/

it's our (Matmos) remix of a deep house track by Mateo & Matos called "The Vibe", it's 9:56 long and, well, judge for yourself how druggy it may or may not be (I plead the fifth)

sorry for gross self-promo, feel free to diss me

you a slut 4 house

scott seward, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 17:35 (twelve years ago) link

how could we not do a Matmos / Mateo & Matos mix? the alliteration alone is worth it

the tune is space, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 17:36 (twelve years ago) link

With spoken word bit by our own Matos I hope!

Dug this one out of a friend's basement, he said he didn't see any point in having vinyl anymore and gave me an entire stack.

Which is why my relatives hate helping me move.

pattern loader, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 07:44 (twelve years ago) link

this is getting kinda random. but hey, as long as it's good house I suppose. here's one more from me:

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 09:01 (twelve years ago) link

Well the thread description is a very big set of sounds, since virtually every deep house producer in the last ten years has been influenced by Moodymann and Theo Parrish.

And virtually every house single since the late 80s has had at least one slightly druggy cut, or it least it seem like it.

pattern loader, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 09:10 (twelve years ago) link

I think it's a matter of perception. One druggy track for some can sound normal for others.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 09:13 (twelve years ago) link

I've had a fever for about 4 or 5 days so just about everything sounds a little off at the moment, maybe its the cold medicine.

pattern loader, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 09:22 (twelve years ago) link

Still not entirely sure what to look for in druggy house, but wanted to post this regardless:

Virtual Bart (EDB), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 09:31 (twelve years ago) link

maybe this image would help you: low ceiling basement, smokes lingering, minimal lighting, sparse dancefloor with people dancing like zombies, DJ playing slow house with some sinister, sleazy quality to it. tracks that float, hypnotic, repetitive, but really groovy.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 11:18 (twelve years ago) link

not really "druggy" but it fits the floaty, repetitive, groovy criteria.

I think some critics and shops call that description "beatdown house" or "Detroit beatdown".

pattern loader, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 11:38 (twelve years ago) link

yes, I think detroit beatdown belongs here. here's one of those:

I wish there were a way to mix deep house and trance without ending up with prog.

pattern loader, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 13:04 (twelve years ago) link

Just look at the tracklist on the first Trance Europe Express compilation, its got the Black Dog, Aphex Twin, Orbital.

by the way, the track that fits my criteria the best is Theo's "Falling Up."

that's more like it, pattern loader. (I'm talking about "jazzy trance")

It's weird her profile isn't bigger considering she sounds like a cross between Theo Parrish and Burial.

I'd say it has more to do with her not looking like Nina Kraviz.

Nice thread. I can't help thinking of Juju & Jordash when I read through. Their Deepfrequency show is wacky (in a good way) and deep. For older stuff Bobby Konders needs a mention!

this thread is great, and the psychedelic thread gr80 linked to is great, too. i had never heard of emperor machine before! it's amazing!!

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Friday, 23 March 2012 11:58 (twelve years ago) link

re: emperor machine

a lot of cool stuff like that came out on dc recordings. bits of some of their (haha) death before distemper mixes are really really good. idjut boys one for example gets really good, but it takes ages to get there and there are a few clunkers at the start iirc
