x-post - hahahaha omg

I don't even know where to start. Pugs are clowns and Benson is really insanely cute. I'm not just saying that either - people stop us all the time to say he's literally the cutest pug they've ever seen. It's sort of ridiculous.

OK at night he sleeps sort of half on my pillow and puts his head on my head and uses me as a chin rest. It's painfully sweet.

I give him a biscuit every morning in his bed when I leave. Every single day he saves the biscuit until someone comes home when the first thing he does is run to go get it with his tail and butt wagging 100x per minute. It's his "happy time the humans are here" biscuit.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Friday, 16 March 2012 18:21 (twelve years ago) link

santi's butt wags so hard when i come home that he literally spins in circles

little dogs are the bestest things ever

the late great, Friday, 16 March 2012 18:26 (twelve years ago) link

hold on he waits until someone gets home to eat the biscuit

so adorbs

catbus otm (gbx), Friday, 16 March 2012 18:28 (twelve years ago) link

haha yes to the circle spinning

I had B a tag custom made that says Benson and my phone number on one side and "Wiggle Butt" on the other.

._.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Friday, 16 March 2012 18:29 (twelve years ago) link

x-post - YES!! He saves the biscuit every. single. day. until someone gets home. After he wakes up and spins around a couple times out of excitement the first thing he does is run to get the happy time biscuit.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Friday, 16 March 2012 18:29 (twelve years ago) link

i can't believe you allow biscuits in bed!

that is the one place where i draw the line, no treats in the bed, too nasty

then again i don't eat in bed either, and i know people who do ...

the late great, Friday, 16 March 2012 18:33 (twelve years ago) link

In HIS bed - his doggy bed!!

wolf kabob (ENBB), Friday, 16 March 2012 18:35 (twelve years ago) link

the cutest thing my dog is after i get in bed she comes up and stares me in the face and gently paws my arm until i lift up the sheets for her to burrow under

⚓ (gr8080), Friday, 16 March 2012 20:44 (twelve years ago) link

my dog jumps up on the bed and very imperiously shoves his nose under the sheets and lifts them himself

f'ing german dogs

the late great, Friday, 16 March 2012 20:59 (twelve years ago) link

So cute, all these dogs.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Friday, 16 March 2012 21:10 (twelve years ago) link

We were all worried about Enid having separation anxiety so we started to give her frozen cooked ground beef before we leave the house as a special treat, which has turned into this ridiculous ritual known as BEEF TIME. Like as me or the wife are getting ready to leave the house the dog gets all excited, and then we say "DO YOU WANT BEEF TIME?" and she runs into the kitchen with us and leaps up and down like a salmon before we drop a handful on the floor.

The other cute but sort of sad thing is when she does something like throw up in the middle of the night on her blanket - she acts all ashamed of her barf pile, looks at us like she can't understand how it got there, and then tries to "bury" it by moving imaginary dirt over the offending pile with her nose.

joygoat, Friday, 16 March 2012 22:09 (twelve years ago) link

Our dogs don't do cute things, they do horrid things.

Feebs K-Tel (NickB), Friday, 16 March 2012 22:42 (twelve years ago) link

I think she might have been distressed by his beard. Rescue dog, who knows what happenend between her and beardy woodworkers in her past.

Feebs K-Tel (NickB), Friday, 16 March 2012 22:44 (twelve years ago) link

awwwww scared of beards!

that's cute!

the late great, Friday, 16 March 2012 22:46 (twelve years ago) link

you should probably grow a beard to help her get past that trauma

the late great, Friday, 16 March 2012 22:46 (twelve years ago) link

my childhood dog was a sweetheart to all humans except tall bearded ones

⚓ (gr8080), Friday, 16 March 2012 22:47 (twelve years ago) link

Beardy carpenters = that Jesus fellow is sure to get his arse nipped if he comes knocking.

Feebs K-Tel (NickB), Friday, 16 March 2012 22:48 (twelve years ago) link

She did come from Ireland, maybe she's just rebelling against the catholic church.

Feebs K-Tel (NickB), Friday, 16 March 2012 22:48 (twelve years ago) link

you should probably grow a beard to help her get past that trauma

I could never do this tbh, it would just be wispy whiskers. But you're right, we ought to try and sort the problem out.

Feebs K-Tel (NickB), Friday, 16 March 2012 22:50 (twelve years ago) link

just get a fake beard

the late great, Friday, 16 March 2012 23:31 (twelve years ago) link

i helped my dog get over a personal trauma once!!!

she got attacked by two very large dogs while i was walking her in my neighborhood once and for about two and a half years would not go anywhere near the corner where it happened, after months of working with her, it's now her favorite corner.

⚓ (gr8080), Friday, 16 March 2012 23:37 (twelve years ago) link

what did 'working with her' entail

mookieproof, Friday, 16 March 2012 23:39 (twelve years ago) link

just like, veering her closer and closer to that corner till she realized it was safe.

she still freezes up if she hears someone coming from the direction of the house those dogs lived in (they have since both died RIP ruthless beasts)

⚓ (gr8080), Friday, 16 March 2012 23:46 (twelve years ago) link

i have probably told this story before but one of the greatest dogs i have ever known was a rhodesian ridgeback named hemi, he belonged to one of my BFs. he had clearly been mistreated by a male sometime in his youth, so despite being the goofiest friendliest funnest dog ever, he would get super serious and growly whenever there was a male in proximity. one time, i was staying at my friend's place and her roommate's male friend came over: hemi spent the whole time sort of braying at this guy and taking turns sitting protectively in front of each of us the whole time the dude was there.

my other favourite thing he would do: i would be sitting on the couch eating dinner and he would put his head on my knee and give me these pathetic sideways looks till i gave him something.

i really miss him ;_;

just1n3, Saturday, 17 March 2012 01:09 (twelve years ago) link

I wonder what the cues for "male" are for a dog. It would be interesting to try presenting an androphobic dog w/ men in various types of drag.

dogs can pick up on hormones via scent iirc

⚓ (gr8080), Saturday, 17 March 2012 01:40 (twelve years ago) link

yeh, i wondered about that too. especially my dog, multiple migs.

free societies must let drunken gay Texans have sex (Je55e), Saturday, 17 March 2012 04:49 (twelve years ago) link

fun fact i learned from the far too many books i have read about dogs: dogs can differentiate between fraternal twins and between identical twins that live seperately but cannot differentiate between identical twins that live together ie. they identify people by both their phenotype and their habitat. fucking columbos.

Awwww.

Related, I've heard a number of people claim that their dog or a dog they know is very sweet except to black people and I always wrote that claim off as racist Southern BS (I haven't heard that in ages, and I only remember hearing it in NC).

Which reminds me - when I was 18 I was was bored and messing around w/ some black Halloween and I painted my face and neck with it and my Pekingese flipped out when she saw me. She wouldn't go anywhere near me and even after I washed the makeup off, it took her a few minutes to decide I wasn't going to change color on her again.

I don't say that to support the claim that some dogs have inherent antipathy toward people of color since I think my dog's problem was that someone she knew had undergone an extreme and unnatural change in appearance. TBH, my shiny, unhuman coal-black face was very disconcerting even for me (esp. since I was stoned).

imo yr dog thought you were racist

ogmor, Sunday, 18 March 2012 09:24 (twelve years ago) link

I've heard that rubbish about dogs being racist but my dog goes NUTS when I put rap music on - ANY OF IT. He also prefers gospel and soul music.

took my dog hiking today:

she gets worn out sooner than she used to, and we got rained on pretty hard; i ended up carrying her for the last 2 miles

⚓ (gr8080), Monday, 19 March 2012 04:26 (twelve years ago) link

What kind of dog is she, and what size?

I never disliked dogs before, but was always sort of impartial to other people's dogs. I've realized though that since getting one I'm such a huge sucker for any dog I run into that it's actually sort of sad. Dogs are the greatest.

she is 1/4 italian greyhound and 3/4 basenji - about 14lbs

I feel like a lot of animals are freaked out by big bearded bros, I used to think this was a past trauma thing but it's prob more like they think they're bears or sme other predators

Ivy bit the carpenter on the arse today ... I think she might have been distressed by his beard.

When he turned up for work this week, he had shaved his beard off, bless him! And he's had it forever too. The dog still growled and barked at him though and we had to shut her away in the bedroom in the end. :(

From last summer. A friend's neighbor's pit bull who is obsessed with trying to capture tree branches. Taken from a longer video in which he does this like 20 times.
