yeah. driving is the grown-up thing i still don't do.

parents split and cars became inaccessible partway through getting my full license (we have graduated licensing) and now I live somewhere where I never really need to. I know that I should but at this point it just prompts so much anxiety and i'm all about public transit and walking places.

I mean, future road trips with boy etc. want to be possible, but it's tricky. Boat may have sailed there.

yeah, I was wondering if lex drives.

lou, we should meet up and compare Brooklyn notes soon!

btw Veronica Peoples club bar in Greenpoint is closing this weekend! At least I got one gay metal night w/ Dr Druna there.

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 17:32 (twelve years ago) link

i stress out if i don't know exactly what i'm doing, and my inclination is to panic as soon as i do something wrong

oh god, this is exactly it for me too.

i don't drive, i live in london! i think i know maybe two people who can drive.

lex pretend, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 17:38 (twelve years ago) link

i don't know how people drive, what a ridiculous thing

surm, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 17:40 (twelve years ago) link

selling my car was one of the better decisions i made in the past year. i'd much rather have the giant synth i bought with that $.

morbs- i'm down! i guess the EMP isn't too far off. maybe we can all arrange something then.

I drive and dislike it but it's the only other way I can listen to new pop music on the radio.

Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 17:43 (twelve years ago) link

i don't drive. terrified of it tbh

althea and (donna rouge), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 17:45 (twelve years ago) link

sucks if i ever want to go to the desert tho

althea and (donna rouge), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 17:46 (twelve years ago) link

I don't own a car, but I love driving and do it at every opportunity. I never feel more at home than behind the wheel and on the freeway.

I don't understand how I ever afforded. I owned cars for 11 years - since I was 17 years old - until I moved to Chicago and I always paid for my own gas, insurance, and maintenance. And tickets. So many tickets. And lawyers.

Now it seems impossibly expensive even though I'm making far more money than I was in my late teens.

Just counted: I've owned 8 cars.

i love driving too i just find it terrifying, but one day i'm telling u i will be able to drive, and listen to music, and drive

one day

surm, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 17:56 (twelve years ago) link

surm, if you haven't driven with the windows down and elbows to the breeze while smoking and listening to Mariah's "Someday" you haven't lived.

Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 17:57 (twelve years ago) link

I KNOW :( o god u just hit it home

i need to learn

surm, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 17:58 (twelve years ago) link

oh u americans and ur driving culture

when i first went to atlanta and met up w/a friend who drove me round it did give me a whole new insight into hip-hop though - rap rhythms are MADE for driving

lex pretend, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 18:39 (twelve years ago) link

driving can suck and in the long run owning a car is a total pain the ass, but it can be really fun and freeing and yes i really miss listening to the radio

3hunn O))) (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 18:39 (twelve years ago) link

xp umm yeah

surm, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 18:40 (twelve years ago) link

sometimes i'd find sitting in traffic on my way home to be very zen

3hunn O))) (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 18:40 (twelve years ago) link

i mean i have a thing, like whenever i first hear a big song on the radio, spesh in the summer, i know it's time

u can't even imagine Motivation in ny cars last summer

surm, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 18:41 (twelve years ago) link

oh is that what you called it

Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 18:41 (twelve years ago) link

sorry on a car radio i mean

surm, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 18:41 (twelve years ago) link

Being driven around LA's environs by my friend last summer was a lifesaver, but I found no romance in it.

Need a driver-cook, actually

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 18:44 (twelve years ago) link

You need Henry Silva in The Manchurian Candidate.

Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 18:44 (twelve years ago) link

sitting in traffic is the most enraging thing

i used to get such bus rage when i had to commute

lex pretend, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 18:45 (twelve years ago) link

this is because whenever i am travelling around i am generally running between 15-115 minutes late

lex pretend, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 18:46 (twelve years ago) link

Me too, and some people think I'm challopsing when I say that.

Even when I'm not driving, a ride in a vehicle is nice. Sometimes my commute ends too quickly. Yesterday I was engrossed in a book so I stayed on to the end of the line and then rode back.

free societies must let drunken gay Texans have sex (Je55e), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 18:46 (twelve years ago) link

when you're late and driving it's more aggravating cuz you feel like you have some control over the situation, but today i was running legit 30 mins late to work but i wasn't that stressed cuz once i got on the train there was really nothing i could do about it

my bf told me that truffles supposedly smell like the sex organs of female pigs; I told him to never use it around me ever again

i've been biking a lot again lately

althea and (donna rouge), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 18:48 (twelve years ago) link

It seems the weight-loss method that most appeals to me right now is fasting.

Soto, I would probably get Henry Silva in CinderFella

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 18:50 (twelve years ago) link

there is a particular junction in london that would often take the bus up to half an hour to get past, a distance of a couple of hundred metres maybe.

my record is being 2 hours and 10 minutes late for work.

lex pretend, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 18:50 (twelve years ago) link

I never stopped biking over the winter, but now I can at least enjoy it.

i missed a film on friday because it took an hour and a half to move from the beach to fairfax (< 12 mi)

althea and (donna rouge), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 18:52 (twelve years ago) link

nah, my boss did sigh pointedly when i walked in but i don't think i ever turned up less than half an hour late. i stayed late most of the time though. flexible hours!

lex pretend, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 18:57 (twelve years ago) link

- i am hardline w/r/t being controlled: my attitude is always "this is how i live my life, if you don't like it the door is that way". fuck a compromise!

ALSO THIS IS NUTS

i still don't get how that is nuts btw

lex pretend, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 19:22 (twelve years ago) link

cuz that's not how relationships work?

Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 19:24 (twelve years ago) link

well i don't know... i feel like if most people like other someone else they're willing to make some compromises or small alterations to their lifestyle, and vice versa

3hunn O))) (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 19:24 (twelve years ago) link

i mean i don't understand the mindset of "i'm this way and if it means i'm alone for the rest of my life, then so be it" but i guess i can sympathize with it, but it doesn't seem particularly helpful to anyone including yourself

3hunn O))) (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 19:25 (twelve years ago) link

well there are some things i might be ok with changing but mostly not. i'm not gonna change myself to needily hang on to some guy, if they love me at all it'll be for ~who i am~

lex pretend, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 19:27 (twelve years ago) link

it's actually a very interesting conversation

somewhere in btw is obv the answer, but deciding where that line is is the bitch

i have given this a lot of thought tbh

surm, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 19:28 (twelve years ago) link

cooking, aesthetic tastes, and pasta vs rice are areas of compromise, I think.

I think I've had enough of gays loving Victor Calderone remixes of Madonna though

Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 19:28 (twelve years ago) link

a great thing about having a bf is evaluating yourself and how you live your life and do things and seeing how the other person can positively alter you, if you let him

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 19:31 (twelve years ago) link

yah. Most of the changes wrought by companionship are subtle and take months or years to show.

Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 19:32 (twelve years ago) link

j0rdan otm. i think it's not fair at all to have huge expectations of other people while refusing to budge yourself.

althea and (donna rouge), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 19:32 (twelve years ago) link

sometimes i'd find sitting in traffic on my way home to be very zen

this is actually nuts

i think this is serious (elmo argonaut), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 19:33 (twelve years ago) link

haha

3hunn O))) (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 19:34 (twelve years ago) link

lex pretend, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 19:34 (twelve years ago) link

3hunn O))) (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 19:34 (twelve years ago) link
