i'm such a vulture when people offer to cook for me. YES PLEASE
i eat a lot of soups like http://www.newcoventgardensoup.com/ and similar ranges - healthy, light but filling, really tasty, varied, just pop in the microwave and accompany with a bit of bread or toast
― lex pretend, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 15:37 (twelve years ago) link
guys you should all come over tonight, i'm making veggie burritos
beer or red or white wine?

My pa is the mojito expoit. I can't stand there and crush mint leaves and sugar three minutes per drink.

i host an annual port & stilton evening so i'd just bring something along those lines

wow some of you guys are INSANE
― 3hunn O))) (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 15:53 (twelve years ago) link
and by some of you guys i guess i just mean lex
cooking rice is pretty easy, also insanely cheap and pretty filling
idk how y'all profess to eat out all the time, aside from the expense it can be more time consuming/tiring than just baking some chicken and making some rice
― 3hunn O))) (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 15:54 (twelve years ago) link
- i am hardline w/r/t being controlled: my attitude is always "this is how i live my life, if you don't like it the door is that way". fuck a compromise!
ALSO THIS IS NUTS
lol jordan i love that u cook
love some baked chicken
― surm, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 15:56 (twelve years ago) link
how is that nuts!
i have never professed to eat out all the time, once a week at most and often not even that. i have professed to scavenge on bread and cheese and crackers and fruit and yoghurt all the time
― lex pretend, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 15:56 (twelve years ago) link
one of my absolute favorite things to do w/ my bf is cook. shit is super fun, also it's really cool to just have nice meals at home, idk.
― 3hunn O))) (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 15:57 (twelve years ago) link
i've no idea how one even begins to bake chicken or indeed do anything with raw meat.

After elmo's party I'll put some chicken thighs in the oven.

i think this is actually more crazy than eating out all the time, but i guess if you can live that way, more power to you. personally i would end up murdering someone.
― 3hunn O))) (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 15:58 (twelve years ago) link
there is absolutely no connection between (my) cooking and nice meals. it has never even nearly happened
― lex pretend, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 15:58 (twelve years ago) link
lex, it's not calculus. I was only taught to cook the most basic of items years ago when I lived at home; the rest I acquired on the internet and having conversations.
― Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 15:59 (twelve years ago) link
Brooklyn has some cheap takeout, albeit not as cheap as it used to be.
I have cooked rice. It tastes better when others do it. Also I am doing things after work 3 or 4 nights a week -- it's why I live here -- so I can't eat dinner at home.
― Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 16:00 (twelve years ago) link
I'm pretty sure that the next man I seriously date I will drag into the chicken and force him to watch me boil water and butter muffins.

dang you guys are giving lex a hard time. if i lived alone i would live like a total bachelor too. not that crayzy y'all
tbth i have a lot of stuff i need to do in the evening time before i can even think about cooking
― surm, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 16:01 (twelve years ago) link
cooking chicken/fish/steak/pork is really easy!
― 3hunn O))) (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 16:01 (twelve years ago) link
The trick with pork and chicken is to leave it marinating the night before -- a step that takes literally two minutes. That way you just pop it in the oven or on the stove when you return from work the next evening.

i say i didn't try very hard but i tried hard enough to learn that 100% of the time something unexpected will go badly wrong and 100% of the time i will hate the whole process even when that thing hasn't happened yet. i feel about it like i feel about public speaking - ie total terror - except i can actually visualise myself overcoming it with public speaking. in the kitchen i go to pieces and it's just not gonna be any other way ever
― lex pretend, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 16:04 (twelve years ago) link
i live with 3 housemates, 2 of whom cook regularly and the other of whom burns porridge because she feels too much pressure while it's on the stove
― lex pretend, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 16:05 (twelve years ago) link
oh no doubt you will burn the rice or undercook the chicken your first time. That's normal.
― Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 16:05 (twelve years ago) link
i don't even know what marinating is
i'm lolling so hard at the idea of cracking under pressure while making porridge
― 3hunn O))) (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 16:06 (twelve years ago) link
lex!
you haven't even talked about cleaning up. I have newspapers on the floor from 3 years ago.
― Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 16:06 (twelve years ago) link
it's similar to what some of us do when we're dateless on a Friday night.
― Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 16:06 (twelve years ago) link
i mean the worst that happens (if you're cooking for yourself) is you screw up and have to eat something that's slightly not right and/or just toss everything and learn from your mistakes
You guys are in fine form today. Congrats!
― Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 16:07 (twelve years ago) link
the funny thing is she never actually stopped looking at the porridge because she was so terrified of burning it, and it burned anyway
no the worst that can happen is full-on mental breakdown and tears of frustration, it has sent me to the EDGE OF SANITY

i tried to steam some broccoli the other week and it just...i have no idea why it didn't work. i thought i knew how to do it. i've done it before. but nothing happened. i ended up having to gnaw sadly on semi-raw florets.

i would TOTALLY watch a show on A&E that just profiles people who try and boil rice but in the process break down and cry and nearly go insane

that reminds me of the time(s) i absent-mindedly take a drink of water while sitting at my desk and, like...miss my mouth completely. once i poured like a pint of water all over my shoulder :(

on saturday night i was making chili and i went to put some salt in it and the top fell off and the entire shaker of salt fell into the pot
i've legit never been as heartbroken in my entire life
this is it! something like this always happens when i set foot in the kitchen. if i'm very lucky i get away with opening cupboards without something china or glass smashing
