So I have a story I need to share

When we turned our rental gear in, we were telling with this older dude who had been helping us out over the couple of days we were on the mountain. He was awesome right up until we were leaving. At that point, he walked up to me, tapped me on the shoulder and said "You were an excellent token out there in the mountain!"

One of our friends, who can't hear shot, thought he said "coach" in reference to me helping J on the slopes and said "Yes he is!" in response.

ahahaha. The enthusiasm must have been perplexing

Large chunks of the weekend felt like we were in a weird comedy movie. After dinner on Friday night, we went upstairs to the bar where they were doing karaoke; when we walked in, they were playing hair metal and super honkey-tonk country music. Within fifteen minutes of us walking in, they started playing Wiz Kalifa and Kanye/Jay-Z.

smdh. it's like you walked into an 80's comedy.

the best part was we were describing this phenomenon to our friend who can't hear anything as it was happening and watching her first go, "wow, that's never happened to me!" (she is white) and then watching her go "oh hey, that's happening NOW"

other pieces of hilarity that night:

- Some dude got up to sing some country rock song called "Black Friday". When the DJ announced "Okay, it's time for 'Black Friday'!" J (who hadn't been paying attention) turned around and yelled "Why it gotta be black???!?!?" Cue terrified locals.

- The other dude in our party entered (and won) a beer pong tournament. Along the way, he played a guy missing his top 4 front teeth who was wearing a hat with a Confederate flag on it. Our friend, who is from VA, asked dude where he was from and dude said "Connecticut." Our friend was all "um, aren't you a little too northern for that hat?"

each missing tooth moves you 5 degrees of latitude to the south iirc

dude was super-friendly, too

It was scarily like being in HSTNGS

re beer pong with the toothless dude: ski vacations are different than I imagine them to be

the place we went didn't have night skiing, so every day by 5:00 we ended up looking for something to do before dinner

that thing usually ended up being "drink", although on Saturday it was "go to the outdoor hot tub"

i am just assuming that "and drink" is appended there

also AP i was thinking that given that our homebrews are 75% hstngs persons made, we should start naming them after notable hastings events and citizens, so i am officially dubbing our next one the "Pussy Has No Face Pale Ale".

sadly no, we were disorganized in terms of cooler smuggling and didn't get our shit together enough to bring our beers into the pool area

we made up for it by going back to our cabin and drinking everything we could before dinner, after which we drank more

btw our cabin was awesome, it had half a mounted bear on the wall

when you travel back in time that's the bear that steals your beer from the hot tub

other things I learned:

- today's 20somethings love Florence + the Machine, hate Alexander O'Neal
- ppl who brag about their skiing chops often can't ski well
- if you spent most of your childhood skiing once a week, you don't have to worry too much about forgetting how to ski because it will come back to you within 15 minutes

in the way back times, the bear ends up wearing J's bra on its head. no one knows how this happens, but it's pretty hilarious

with life and everything i really don't do a lot in HSTNGS beyond sleeping here, but with the sun coming out i'm remembering how much i miss living in view of a river. reminds me of home i guess. shit's not bad.

Buck Hill = training wheels, but I'll never forget the time I saw some teen girl learning how to ski on the bunny hill, and realizing far too late she didn't actually know how to stop, and crashing into the whole line of people waiting for the tow rope.
