Love so many of these. Voting Bug Powder Dub just ahead of Useless. They both feel like benchmark remixes to me.

I have to go with Jazz Master

jed_, Thursday, 8 March 2012 09:39 (twelve years ago) link

Annoyed this morning because I thought I'd copied this to my iPhone but I did not. Being annoyed is so un-K&D Sessions, too.

Rollin' on Chrome over Bug Powder Dust

Fuck! forgot about these. Criminal mind error

Gonna have to snap out some Fila B now.

i bought a rockers hi-fi album because of this. was disappointing.

contenderizer, Friday, 9 March 2012 01:35 (twelve years ago) link

Rockers to Rockers is a great album, Mish Mash was pretty weak in comparison. I assume you bought Mish Mash. Get this one: http://www.discogs.com/Rockers-Hi-Fi-Rockers-To-Rockers/master/39792

brotherlovesdub, Friday, 9 March 2012 05:23 (twelve years ago) link

yeah, it was mish mash. liked "going under" and the delivery of the line "now i delivah", but that's about it. will check the previous

contenderizer, Friday, 9 March 2012 05:31 (twelve years ago) link

maybe

contenderizer, Friday, 9 March 2012 05:36 (twelve years ago) link

six years pass...

right one won

It's funny how ten years ago this sounded dated to me in the worst way and now it sounds dated to me in the best way

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Monday, 7 January 2019 22:13 (five years ago) link

I kind of regret selling my OG vinyl copy since the repress has a bunch of different songs, but I did get $300 for it and a couple of the tracks had scratches that caused skipping. The K&D DJ Kicks is one of my favorite artifacts from the 90s though.

brotherlovesdub, Monday, 7 January 2019 22:18 (five years ago) link

if it's the dark paranoid version on disc 2, I agree

brimstead, Monday, 7 January 2019 22:23 (five years ago) link

xp to qualmsley

brimstead, Monday, 7 January 2019 22:23 (five years ago) link

I have always found this sounded funny. Haven't listened in ages to it. There was an air of coolness around them which i could never take seriously.

Ich bin kein Berliner (alex in mainhattan), Monday, 7 January 2019 22:24 (five years ago) link

Ah I guess that's the dub

Would've voted for the bone thugs

brimstead, Monday, 7 January 2019 22:24 (five years ago) link

The original "Trans Fatty Acid" isn't anywhere near as good as the remix (which would be my other choice I think) - the one time Lamb (in their early career) slipped into trip hop by numbers.

Does this sound like opposite world to anyone else? Lamb's original is more akin to the claustrophobic paranoia of Tricky's "Strugglin'" than, say, something off of Dummy (which would be the likelier trip hop template from the time).

Siouxie Sioux Vide (Leee), Tuesday, 8 January 2019 23:24 (five years ago) link

any time I hear more than a couple Depeche Mode remixes on shuffle I remember the one on this mix and end up listening to the full k&d sessions

mh, Wednesday, 9 January 2019 01:32 (five years ago) link

two weeks pass...

the depeche mode mix is boring imo. could just be that i don't like depeche mode.

'gotta jazz' deserved a vote

macropuente (map), Monday, 28 January 2019 03:27 (five years ago) link

this still hits some serene highs but parts are also kinda beige. i remember feeling the same way when i first bought it.

macropuente (map), Monday, 28 January 2019 03:30 (five years ago) link

i think i tried playing some of this at a mormon youth dance once?? lol

macropuente (map), Monday, 28 January 2019 03:33 (five years ago) link

one year passes...

so they're coming to SF ... what are their sets like these days?

lukas, Wednesday, 12 February 2020 00:21 (four years ago) link

six months pass...

did they ever come to sf?

had 'bug powder dust' come on in the car the other morning on my way to work and it sounded realll good

I remember buying this album at the time (1997?) and really looking forward to it, but for some reason I just couldn't get into it at all.

does it look like i'm here (jon123), Friday, 14 August 2020 21:03 (three years ago) link

might want to find 'bug powder dust' online somewhere and roll up your sleeves for that lyrical treat

Give me a Chad Smith-type feel (map), Friday, 14 August 2020 21:05 (three years ago) link

tbh i think there's something about the rolling filters they use on everything that i don't like - too 'smooth', not enough crunch.

New album titled 1995 will drop in October.

Single sounds suitably cozy:

pomentiful (pomenitul), Saturday, 29 August 2020 16:16 (three years ago) link

are any Tosca and/or Peace Orchestra records worth hearing?

brimstead, Saturday, 29 August 2020 16:30 (three years ago) link

I was quite fond of Opera, Suzuki and Suzuki in Dub at the time; no idea whether they'd hold up today. I don't think I've heard any Peace Orchestra.

pomentiful (pomenitul), Saturday, 29 August 2020 16:33 (three years ago) link

The Peace Orchestra s/t is grebt

lukas, Saturday, 29 August 2020 16:49 (three years ago) link

Peace Orchestra is brilliant. Takes a while to hit though.

Gerneten-flüken cake (jed_), Saturday, 29 August 2020 16:57 (three years ago) link

I'll check it out. I'm due for downtempo throwbacks anyway.

pomentiful (pomenitul), Saturday, 29 August 2020 16:59 (three years ago) link

would totally believe if you told me that song is a lost gem from 1995 (the year). but not quite. or 96, 98, whenever K&D looong peak was. loved it

co-signing the greatness of the first Peace Orchestra

there's a lot of great stuff to be found on the first 3 Tosca albums. go with Suzuki first, maybe. Fuck Dub is just straight undeniable classic imo (the 12 not the rec w/ the mixes. nevermind, that too)

gaudio, Saturday, 29 August 2020 17:40 (three years ago) link

Echoing the love for Peace Orchestra. The first Tosca is also very good.

Lol al realising it’s been 20+ years after having seen K&D live (which was great in a very of its time way)

Monte Scampino (Le Bateau Ivre), Saturday, 29 August 2020 18:02 (three years ago) link

Suzuki is one of the few albums of that genre & time I still listen to

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Saturday, 29 August 2020 18:17 (three years ago) link

Damn they really haven't released anything since the 90s

(except for a 3-track ep in 2008)

lukas, Saturday, 29 August 2020 19:21 (three years ago) link

thx for the tips, all

Is the vocal sample on this Nina Simone? If so, where is it from?

Gerneten-flüken cake (jed_), Saturday, 29 August 2020 21:34 (three years ago) link

"Technically, it's a "lost" album, which they made in 1995, made a few test pressings of and then forgot about. They recently discovered in a box of DATs, did a little polishing, and here we are."

Thanks stirmonster.

Gerneten-flüken cake (jed_), Sunday, 30 August 2020 13:56 (three years ago) link

Damn they really haven't released anything since the 90s

Peter Kruder has been producing over the years, mostly fairly unremarkable deep house/minimal but I did like Vespertilio from 2012.

Siegbran, Thursday, 3 September 2020 12:43 (three years ago) link

I'll check it out. I'm due for downtempo throwbacks anyway.

Here's a mix I did almost 20 year ago that has stuff like Tosca, Boozoo Bajou and Baby Mammoth on it
