Best email I got all day ------- :-)

Bro - tell your team that the work they did in creating the creation method is outstanding.

I'm not talking about just the course... and I'll get to that in a second... I'm talking about the stylistic design, the copywriting ... It's all amazing and inspiring. I am one of the pickiest people you'll know about what is 'good quality' and what is crap quality... and your team is consistently on fire.

And get this: I don't even NEED something like the creation method. It is absolutely awesome material... I bought the teleseminar and appreciate the content due to how relevant it is for so many people... It will truly unleash some fire in them. For me, I didn't really feel it was for me simply because I can get myself 'in that space' already. Do I take the step to get a refund though? No! Instead I find myself pulling out my credit card and ordering the upsell!

I'm hypnotized Vishen!

Hypnotized!!

Give your team my gratitude.

They deserve all the gratitude in the world for the work you're doing together.

With Love & Gratitude,
Sean Patrick Simpson

I think it was gr80 who wanted to know how you can be invited to Awesomeness Fest? From what a friend who works there told me, you need to be in the you apply for it, then they'll interview you. And then you pay a few thousand dollars and you're in.
Also, while ilx was talking about TED this link was posted multiple times by mindvalley folks ( http://www.rohitbhargava.com/2012/03/how-mindvalley-is-building-the-next-ted-only-more-useful.html ).

The angle she puts on the coverage will be way more interesting than the coverage itself, I expect.

Paul Smon (La Lechera), Thursday, 22 March 2012 16:56 (twelve years ago) link

Could be "this is a marvelous place of healing" or "what are these charlatans selling us?" but my guess is that it will not be "wtf lol vedic city".

Paul Smon (La Lechera), Thursday, 22 March 2012 16:57 (twelve years ago) link

what are these charlatans selling us?

i wouldn't expect this attitude coming from oprah winfrey tbh

TM people or townies? I am married to a townie who grew up there, have never actually interacted with anyone from the TM community tbh and I have been there many times over the last...12 years or so. Just wondering because I have been there so many times, but I still have never seen David Lynch levels of celebrity or devotion or w/e.

Paul Smon (La Lechera), Thursday, 22 March 2012 18:05 (twelve years ago) link

Both grew up there. One is the child of TM people, and the other was a townie (I think?) who seemed to have come from a back-to-the-land type background.

What is a Vision Board?

A vision board (also called a Treasure Map or a Visual Explorer or Creativity Collage) is typically a poster board on which you paste or collage images that you’ve torn out from various magazines. It’s simple.

The idea behind this is that when you surround yourself with images of who you want to become, what you want to have, where you want to live, or where you want to vacation, your life changes to match those images and those desires.

For instance, before I ever started performing music and I had no idea how I’d ever get a gig, write enough songs, or assemble a press kit, I drew a picture of myself in a bar with people watching me perform (I’m a terrible visual artist, so I actually had to label the people “people!”). And though it wasn’t the only factor in making it happen, I had a calendar full of bar and coffeehouse gigs by the next year.

My drawing was a kind of a vision board. Vision boards do the same thing as my drawing did. They add clarity to your desires, and feeling to your visions. For instance, at the time I did my drawing, I knew I wanted to play in bars and coffeehouses. (I have since left the that circuit, and I’m performing in theatres and at conferences. But in my early twenties, I wanted to play in bars and coffeehouses. I was pretty clear about that!) Taking the time to draw it out, even poorly, made it indelible in my mind.

There are several methods you can use for creating your vision board. I’ve written about each one below. You can choose which one works best for you, depending on where you find yourself on this path of creating your life.

So while having dinner with Sir Richard Branson on Necker Island, his private hangout in the British Virgin Islands, I finally got to ask him a question I've always wanted to ask.

We had been talking about life, fatherhood, kids, spiritual ideas, business and more. And I finally asked him...

"Richard, there has been so many theories about what makes you tick. I mean the 300+ companies, taking man to space, and all the other crazy epic things you do. But if YOU had to boil it down to ONE thing. Just one thing. What would your advice be?"

And this is what Branson told me. (Note that I'm paraphrasing a bit, because I did not record this.)

"It's all about finding and hiring people smarter than you. Getting them to join your business. And giving them good work. Then getting out of their way. And trusting them. You have to get out of the way so YOU can focus on the bigger vision. That's important. And here's the main thing....you must make them see their work as a MISSION."

I was flying out to Dubai the next day to deliver a TEDx talk on "How to Build the World's Greatest Workplace". Richard's quote seemed so perfect for the talk. I asked him permission to quote him and he said yes.

I'll leave it to you to interprete Branson's words in your own way. Share your comments :-)

Note on the pic below: It was taken on my iPhone the next day. It shows Richard scribbling down ideas in his notebook during a brainstorming session.

you'd think if Branson wanted to give you permission to quote him in a speech, he'd at least ask you not to paraphrase it

Sweet grief! I have seen magazines. They do not contain images of "who I want to become." This is why I read books. The kind without pictures on every page.

Aimless, Tuesday, 3 April 2012 20:04 (twelve years ago) link

dont forget abt the people who do it via youtube slideshow, as covered upthread.

it reminds me of friends i had growing up who had 40 year old moms that would tape photos to the fridge of 20 year old models they cut out of Cosmo and Redbook, as a way of somehow motivating them to lose weight

♆ (gr8080), Tuesday, 3 April 2012 20:16 (twelve years ago) link

i'm a visual person, and visual reminders can be effective motivators... but still, the whole practice of anyone participating in something like this after finishing the 9th grade is such a bummer to me

A.K.A. "treasure mapping"

shur fine (am0n), Tuesday, 3 April 2012 21:00 (twelve years ago) link

http://www.happiness-information.com/treasure-mapping.html

What is Treasure Mapping?

Treasure Mapping is the process of creating a photo collage which includes images and words that express your goals and desires. This type of collage can also be referred to as a Vision Board, Story Board or a Dream Board.
In Creative Visualization, Shakti Gawain writes that, “You can make a treasure map by drawing or painting it, or by making a collage using pictures and words cut from magazines, books or cards, photographs, drawings, and so on.” Shakti explains that, “A treasure map is an actual, physical picture of your desired reality. Basically the treasure map should show you in your ideal scene, with your goal fully realized.”

While creating a Treasure Map can assist you in manifesting desires of your personality (usually material items), Treasure Mapping is also a great way to explore the desires of your soul. Thru your intention, Treasure Mapping can call forth desires that live deep within your heart, desires that are waiting to be remembered or even awakened for the first time.

its funny that something first grade teachers came up with to entertain kids during recess on a rain day is like something that people now base entire careers and workshops aroud
