I think there were baby versions of Kermit and Miss Piggy in one of the movies.

The Muppets Take Manhattan is the third in a series of feature films starring the Muppets. It was the first film solely directed by Frank Oz, who also performs Fozzie Bear, Miss Piggy and Animal in the film. The film introduced the Muppet Babies (toddler versions of the Muppet characters in a flashback/dream sequence). The Muppet Babies later received their own Saturday morning cartoon, which aired from 1984 to 1992.

Oh right, forgot about that. Muppet Babies: Origins.
Wow, '84 - '92 is a long run for a cartoon. No wonder I feel like I've watched so much of it.

jesus you guys didn't grow up wstching rugrats too did you? hate that fucking show. and i like most of the stuff my kids like. but i won't let them put rugrats on in my presence. feel like that show was around for decades.
― scott seward, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 18:25 (twelve years ago) link
rugrats was alright

animated versions of infantilized puppet versions of puppet versions of animals^can we make this longer?
― Pup Shalom Dog Costume (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 18:27 (twelve years ago) link
muppet babies kinda just as terrible as rugrats come to think of it.
― scott seward, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 18:28 (twelve years ago) link
rugrats was after my time. I caught a few episodes of it in passing. only thing I remember is one of them calling diapers "diapies" which infuriated me for some reason.
― beachville, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 18:28 (twelve years ago) link
h8ted rugrats, watched the shit out of muppet babies
― catbus otm (gbx), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 18:38 (twelve years ago) link
rugrats kinda hit every nerve for me cuz i hated the animation, hated their voices, and i thought it was totally unfunny. plus, the fact that it was sorta knowingly made for parents and kids to watch - parenting/child-rearing humor all the time with the horrible adult characters - made it even worse.
― scott seward, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 18:40 (twelve years ago) link
yeah every character on Rugrats looked like they barely survived fetal alcohol syndrome or something
― smangarang (Whiney G. Weingarten), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 18:43 (twelve years ago) link
Not to remove a layer from your theory but technically they are "cartoon/baby versions" of a puppet since there was never a non-cartoon baby version to play off of until later. This is only one layer
― smangarang (Whiney G. Weingarten), Wednesday, March 7, 2012 12:38 PM (1 hour ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink
well yeah but it's a cartoon depiction of babies etc. a layer is a layer.
― some dude, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 18:47 (twelve years ago) link
to clarify there really is someone else who came up w/ this observation about Muppet Babies before me and i genuinely can't remember who, although since nobody else has pointed it out itt i'm guessing it wasn't an ilxor or anyone famous
― some dude, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 18:48 (twelve years ago) link
carrot top iirc

how do you start that off with "not to remove a layer"?

it wasn't carrot top, that was forks's idea of "funny" (which, as we all know, needs scarequotes as much as carrot top's idea of "funny")
― some dude, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 20:57 (twelve years ago) link
hey forks i think we might both think this is funny: kyle

haha, wikipedia is with you:
]The show portrays childhood versions of the Muppets living together in a large nursery in the care of a human woman called Nanny (the whereabouts of their parents are never addressed).

I remember the muppet babies were always in these massive desolate landscapes like outer space or something. Their "playroom" was really massive and cavernous.

tiny toons were bad, but at least had a bit of ambition and wit. worst thing abt that show was its fan culture.
