I know Thursday Afternoon. It might be too aural-wallpapery not to put you off. It's just him, no sound effects, plinking away at a piano for an hour. Patterns get repeated, but the deliberate meditativeness is never dispelled by any kind of climactic *MOMENT*. Good music to sleep to, or read to, or to have on in the background to stare out the window.

I'll defend Music For Airports as being his best or most successful ambient record (Discreet Music coming in 2nd) specifically for it's starkness or "clinical" wallpaper sound. That's what the intention of the ambient music was. When warmth or impressionism enter the mix, it ends up bringing the ambient music more into the foreground of the listener's attention, when it's supposed to (by Eno's original definition) stay as far in the background as possible.

Bits of Apollo are good, but alot of it is pap. Particularly most of side two if I remember correctly.

I blame Daniel Lanois.

ascent has become a staple for film directors now, and threatens to become cliché. but i think it's durable like the moonlight sonata.

Saw "The Apollo Project's" (Larry Campbell, David Torn, Mike Gordon, itsnotyouitsme, Jeff Parker and Noveller) live version of Apollo when I was in NYC last week and man it was tremendously great.

Haha. All I could find was this Pitchfork review by a certain Alfred Soto, whoever the hell he is supposed to be...

It's a fave album of mine, and I have the new version, just haven't gotten around to it.

six months pass...

I’ve been listening to the second disc a ton the last few days. It’s neither as spookily ethereal as a “Stars” nor as overtly straightforward as “Silver Morning” – the whole thing was done trading stems and MIDI files and a number of the tracks feel like distant cousins of “Deep Blue Day” and “An Ending (Ascent).” But all in all, a nice listen.

I’m looking forward to his reunion with Roger. The first few tracks they’ve released have been really nice.

Have always lived Deep Blue Day which is like country tinged ambient. Guess you know. I take it it's a reference to one of the crew being a major Buck Owen fan.
Anyway blooming sublime.

Always loved that is. My days are not all deep blue. But if that was a lifestyle not sure how it'd be,a little melancholy?

I bought the two disc remaster out of loyalty to this amazing album. But I confess I've barely listened to it - and certainly not the second disc. I must do so

Yes, and I won’t lie: it’s going down particularly nicely in the midst of all this chaos right now.
