altho the ones asap and tyga have seem to be more yellow than gold, the one drake is wearing is much better, or it looks better in the lighting

D-40, Monday, 5 March 2012 10:44 (twelve years ago) link

you're only like 2 older than me iirc? i googled it and it's some clothing brand i've never seen. i don't have any feel for who would wear it tho.

marissa explains it all (The Reverend), Monday, 5 March 2012 10:57 (twelve years ago) link

in the early 00s it was the standard for HIP HOP HEADS

blackalicious endorsed iirc

D-40, Monday, 5 March 2012 11:04 (twelve years ago) link

i would wear the FUCK out of the leopard print northface

i hope you two at least realize that your being the only people saying that itt is not a great case for drake's masculinity

some dude, Monday, 5 March 2012 14:09 (twelve years ago) link

haha that jacket is the worst of all possible worlds

lag∞n, Monday, 5 March 2012 14:13 (twelve years ago) link

the gloves (and his hand movements) are what really make the whole outfit legendary

some dude, Monday, 5 March 2012 14:14 (twelve years ago) link

ah its a supreme/north face collaboration no wonder

I was all about being a HIP HOP HEAD in the early 2000s (and have the Blackalicious cds to prove it, haha) and never heard of it. Maybe they just never retailed here? At any rate, I meant "hip hop dudes" in a broader sense than that.

oh i won't defend someone wearing batting gloves irl

J0rdan S., Monday, 5 March 2012 17:11 (twelve years ago) link

when drake wears ott gloves i imagine him saying to a stylist 'i don't think people are paying enough attention to my hand movements, i need something to draw attention to them'

some dude, Monday, 5 March 2012 17:14 (twelve years ago) link

ugh north face

so "college chicks from maple grove mn" is a hot look now?

goole, Monday, 5 March 2012 17:16 (twelve years ago) link

did rappers used to wear batting gloves like 10 years ago or am i just specifically thinking of the st. lunatics' "batter up" video?

J0rdan S., Monday, 5 March 2012 17:17 (twelve years ago) link

naw, that was a thing. i can't think of any other good examples off the top, but that was definitely a thing.

marissa explains it all (The Reverend), Monday, 5 March 2012 17:22 (twelve years ago) link

okay yeah that's what i thought

J0rdan S., Monday, 5 March 2012 17:23 (twelve years ago) link

some dude's last image is top ten for the thread IMO

Doctor Casino, Monday, 5 March 2012 17:51 (twelve years ago) link

northface is just a huge brand worn by lots of people tho it was def particularly huge w/east coast 'heads' in the late 90s

lag∞n, Monday, 5 March 2012 17:54 (twelve years ago) link

black bubble jackets were huge then, now like every 'professional male' has a nface fleece

lag∞n, Monday, 5 March 2012 17:56 (twelve years ago) link

i don't think drake has mastered being male at a professional level yet though

some dude, Monday, 5 March 2012 17:57 (twelve years ago) link

north face has been a thing for like, ever....goole i think you might have a weird impression because of MN being cold and all so lots more types of ppl wear north face here?

the wild eyed boy from soundcloud (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 5 March 2012 18:00 (twelve years ago) link

everyone wears northface its a wildly popular brand!

lag∞n, Monday, 5 March 2012 18:04 (twelve years ago) link

supreme on the other hand is def a niche thing

lag∞n, Monday, 5 March 2012 18:06 (twelve years ago) link

and when the two meet you have synergy

lag∞n, Monday, 5 March 2012 18:06 (twelve years ago) link

i just bought some steven alan keds btw

lag∞n, Monday, 5 March 2012 18:07 (twelve years ago) link

one thing i noticed when i went to finally moved to a place where people where winter clothes is that north face was VERY popular with white people

J0rdan S., Monday, 5 March 2012 18:07 (twelve years ago) link

its the biggest winter tech brand!

lag∞n, Monday, 5 March 2012 18:08 (twelve years ago) link

i just made up that classification but im sure theres some industry name for it

lag∞n, Monday, 5 March 2012 18:08 (twelve years ago) link

one thing thats kind annoying abt the internet is most of the content is fromt he last ten years so its harder to find pictures of 90s rappers wearing northface than you might expect

lag∞n, Monday, 5 March 2012 18:12 (twelve years ago) link

columbia is still p popular here in the burbs

the wild eyed boy from soundcloud (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 5 March 2012 18:15 (twelve years ago) link

i first noticed north face when i moved to mn age 18

goole, Monday, 5 March 2012 18:19 (twelve years ago) link

'north face' should be in the catalog of drake insults along with 'canada dry'

some dude, Monday, 5 March 2012 18:22 (twelve years ago) link

columbia has never had the cache with hiphop types that north face has ime

marissa explains it all (The Reverend), Monday, 5 March 2012 18:25 (twelve years ago) link

no i meant with just like office dudes and shit

the wild eyed boy from soundcloud (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 5 March 2012 18:27 (twelve years ago) link

yeah, i understood. i was reinforcing your idea.

marissa explains it all (The Reverend), Monday, 5 March 2012 18:55 (twelve years ago) link

columbia is entry level, nface is stando, then theres all sorts hardcore brands for people who actually go out and climb mountains and such

lag∞n, Monday, 5 March 2012 19:07 (twelve years ago) link

the only north face thing i own is my murdered out trail pack:

⚓ (gr8080), Monday, 5 March 2012 19:11 (twelve years ago) link

i own zero northface, i think the only tech gear i have is a coloumbia rain jacket, im generally opposed to all that shit

lag∞n, Monday, 5 March 2012 19:12 (twelve years ago) link

i had a pair of swix lobster gloves for a while. that's about as tech as i get.

goole, Monday, 5 March 2012 19:28 (twelve years ago) link

oh shit i have a pair of northface gloves! they were a gift tho, i use them for running theyre all sweaty and nast

goole, Monday, 5 March 2012 19:50 (twelve years ago) link

⚓ (gr8080), Monday, 5 March 2012 20:14 (twelve years ago) link

yeah i mean from a chicago perspective specifically (which prob extends thru much of the midwest as well) this was the look of the rich white kids at my h.s. in the late 90s & at lots of suburban schools as well, but only recently became a street thing -- i think there's an aspirational wealth thing to it, or maybe its coming out of that moment where hipster & urban fashion were basically completely linked

but at least in chi the street rap (as opposed to hip-hop heads or w/e) look of high school kids is timberlands, true religion jeans, and a variety of tops: north face fleeces, american apparel hoodies, aeropostale & abercrombie shirts

but this wasn't always the case

D-40, Monday, 5 March 2012 21:55 (twelve years ago) link

there's a variety there but these looks are just as common in the burbs as in the city. there's a lot less distance in fashion than there used to be i guess

D-40, Monday, 5 March 2012 21:56 (twelve years ago) link

stoked on the stussy/patagonia collab meek mill's sporting in his next video
