Alcohol is not a drug, it's a drink

It's a drug you can drink, with minimal drug paraphernalia.

Currently use occasionally (less and less as time goes on).

I'd be interested if there's anyone on ILX who's never tried alcohol (aside from those who have never drunk for religious/medical reasons).

with minimal drug paraphernalia.
Speak for yourself. A well-stocked bar will have various paraphenalia including knife, cutting board, juicer, shaker, toothpicks, straws, napkins, garnishes, mixers, and wild variety of glasses suited to various drinks.

I like alcohol alright, I like beers w/ big meals or big meals after beers. or mimosas with brunch. but I don't particularly enjoy being super drunk and never have the urge to drink excessively cause it's just an unpleasant feeling. I guess I mostly just like alcohol in relation to food.

I used to throw back gin and tonic like there was no tomorrow. Usually Tanqueray, occasionally Bombay Sapphire. Spent many evenings getting piss drunk on it, racking huge tabs up, and narrowly avoiding trouble. One night drove when I should have and almost smashed into a parked fire truck.
The last time I had that drink was a night where I bought a full bottle of Tanqueray 10 to a party where nobody else wanted it, and I polished off 75% of the bottle myself in one night, and (quite irresponsibly) drove home when I should not have. Woke up the next day to the worst hangover in my existence, feeling so sick that I was having dry heaves until about 5 pm that day. At this point I recognized that not only was I making bad life choices while I was smashed, but that it was no longer fun.
Shifted to wine, beer, and the occasional spirit, and I don't get drunk anymore (other than once last year, a rarity). Gradually over time became a beer nut, and will drink a beer or two as a complement to dinner, usually a pale ale. When I go out to drink, it's usually beer, occasionally liquor, but only enough to relax and usually I cut off at 2.

nothing unusual here for my part of the world, except maybe i started a little later than my peers (16) and hit it a little harder (went through a period in my late teens of going through close to a pint of vodka or whiskey most nights out).
Have done the blacking out, have driven home without knowing how, woken up without the odd tooth. Y'know.
These days i drink mainly decent whiskeys and rarely to anything past mild tipsiness. Can drink socially but try to watch myself. Parental alcoholism was a major factor in a pretty disastrous upbringing but i like to think i've got a reasonable handle on how i use it these days.

Voted "occasionally". Had five pints tonight, but like Darragh "part of the world" skews the defintions. When I go home I realise that I'm never the most drunk, and that's one reason I'm dubious about moving back to Ireland.
In retrospect I had a problem in my early twenties linked to crippling social anxiety, got in trouble a couple of times and made a bad impression on lots of people I could otherwise have got along with fine. These days I stick to beer and good whisk(e)y and there aren't many opportunities to get absolutely plastered. But for better or worse, the rush of a night in the offing gets me every time and I get too much pleasure from drinking with friends to ever consider giving it up. I pretty much never drink on my own though.

I'm ~6 months cold turkey after many years of over-indulgence and it's been great! Very rarely tempted to go back. Unfort I have to go to a fundraiser thing this Sat night with dozens of casual friends who will be drinking like fish and I'll have to deal with dozens of well-intentioned offers of drinks. Would rather skip tbh.
