I don't see a whole lot of difference between nerdy fanboys who like this cartoon and nerdy fanppl who like all manner of things and attend conventions about them. Right down to their penchant for silly hats.

xp I totally have a fedora pic of me from jr high.

I desperately wanted a porkpie hat in the days of third-wave ska. Thankfully e-commerce was a little less developed and I sure as fuck wasn't going to find one locally.

guys, I owned a fedora, a bicycle cap with the name of my German camp on it, a Dr Seuss raver hat and a green baseball cap with a cartoon mascot from a Japanese baseball team on it by the time I was TWENTY; I think I have put in my time in the bad hat trenches and am allowed to chuckle at those that came after me

Vaseline MEN AMAZING JOURNEY (DJP), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:57 (twelve years ago) link

oh, also a reversible skull cap

flagp∞st (dayo), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 21:59 (twelve years ago) link

when i was in elementary school i had dwayne wayne flip-up sunglasses over my regular glasses for awhile, to match my dad. NOT HIP.

I went on a high school orchestra trip my freshman year of high school. This was when I had long hair. I ended up buying some french-style wool beret and wore it around WDW most of the next day, after we performed in the Magic Kingdom.

Wool beret, long hair, Florida in spring. Makes perfect sense.

my friends had 1. clip-on shades via magnets and 2. glasses that grew dark in sunlight

I had another pair of sunglasses that were round frames with square lenses inside them, and another pair of those shutter sunglasses Kanye started wearing around circa Graduation

fyi I never spent more than $10 on any of these

was gonna try to work "bronyoner" in somewhere, but it's all about hats now

Little GTFO (contenderizer), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 22:13 (twelve years ago) link

I actually lost track of that beret a few years ago and am still fuming about it for some reason. I think I wanted to use it for a halloween costume.

valleys of your mind (mh), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 22:14 (twelve years ago) link

pretty sure i owned a top hat, tho

i've always wanted a fez

der Truthahn des Giftes (Eisbaer), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 22:17 (twelve years ago) link

there are at least two girls in every high school in california that wear big tank-girl style glasses

"nerdery" maybe seems not quite as mocked as it was when "we" were kids (realize i'm writing to a wide audience but i'm assuming i'm around the upper end of the median at 35) ... it seems like a LOT more kids are into stuff like video games, anime, cartoons than when i was a teenager.

not sure how or why this is but i bet it has something to do w/ everyone having cable and internet
