Strange that many of my favourite Bowie songs exist in several different versions. The two non-canon versions I rep hard for are the demo version of "Candidate" (which is my favourite of all the "Diamond Dogs" material), and the moody soundtrack version of "Cat People".

This (that song, but also the pöll) is going to be terrific, whatever the outcome.

My ballot's in. It was much easier to narrow it down to just 20 than I thought it was going to be!

am I the only one who prefers the Rodgersified version of "Cat People"? The singing on the original sends me looking for a sofa to crawl under.

Let's Dance was the first Bowie album I heard (as a 12 year old, I was won over by the single and the heated, peroxide haired singer in the video) and "Cat People" was an instant favorite. Loved the opening guitar riff, especially its tone, which sounds slightly "off". A great energetic rock song, like "Modern Love".
I only heard the original version many years later. Love it, too, but I can see (hear) why you'd be put off by the vocals. Especially the opening lines sound very deliberately slow and deep. But I love them.

Looking forward to this.

I have no idea what song is gonna win this. There are 10 pages of songs! I copied them into a word document because the list in the thread was so long. Dang, TEN PAGES OF SONGS?! That's a lot of songs.

I will say that I have 13 (!!!) ballots in hand already and I don't see any consensus #1 among the songs.

I've gone right off ""'Heroes'"" for some reason, so I didn't vote for it. It's gone from being ultracommitted to having something uncommitted about it, to my ears (fits with the lyric I suppose). Maybe it's the half-assed backing vocals.

I've never done one of these polls before but my method was just to type out all the Bowie songs I love and can rarely go long without hearing in a Word doc in no partic order; turns out that topped out at 17, so then I did a trawl of Spotify to jog the memory, added another 10, chopped and changed and then only really paid attention to the ordering of the top six.

Already I regret one omission, but it's a cover so I guess it'll be my virtual #21.

tbh, I liked these more when there was only a week of voting. The not-thinking-just-voting aspect was what made them spontaneous and fun. The only reason these polls should ever been open for voting for a second week is if there aren't enough ballots to run results.
