I mean obviously not but you seem to understand why the freakonomics thing was stupid, what else do you want to know?

i guess one thing that really interests me in life is how people have reasonable & unreasonable fears (well i guess no 'fear' is reasonable but let's say people will manage risks based on perceived risk w/out a real sense of perspective) so what i was wondering was whether or not ppl realize how 'dangerous' drunk walking could be or if freakonomics dudes were just blowing that up for the sake of a hook into a partic. chapter of the book. Like, perceived risks vs. actual risks is something i wonder about a lot (like irrational fear of flying when people are more likely to die in a traffic accident -- sometimes received wisdom is actually wrong! and you don't need flawed statistical analysis to prove it)

the first time deej casually said "Mizay" to me like i was supposed to understand exactly what that name means was right after he declared "there's no way a dude like Lil Durk has as many actual youtube views as Bo Deal" and i was like okay man i don't have the right tunnel vision for this conversation

ha it's funny you brought this up cuz "you're more likely to die in a car crash than a plane crash" is biased in probably very similar ways that the drunk walking vs drunk driving was

D-40, Friday, 24 February 2012 20:55 (twelve years ago) link

yeah, was gonna say. deaths per traveler, per trip and per mile traveled are all higher by car, iirc

Little GTFO (contenderizer), Friday, 24 February 2012 20:57 (twelve years ago) link

D-40, Friday, 24 February 2012 21:17 (twelve years ago) link

it's prob a zing tbh but if all ilx zings were educational we would be much better off

iatee, Friday, 24 February 2012 21:26 (twelve years ago) link

yeah i mean hes not blowing my mind that 'mr smarm' wasn't a 'zing' that i used 'system 2' to come up w/ here that was kind of my point

but if he was just responding to the drunk driving v drunk walking thing then fair play

D-40, Friday, 24 February 2012 21:30 (twelve years ago) link

As for "The Artist" -- which wound up winning four Spirit Awards, including Best Feature -- Rogen quipped, "I thought we created the whole foreign film category to stop this shit from happening."

Which Oscar-nominated actors beat up their fellow nominees? Genuinely curious.

robbery by sudden snatching (DJP), Sunday, 26 February 2012 16:25 (twelve years ago) link

haha fellow nominees, probably none, but there are still a lot of abusive men who've been nominated or won which i think was the more more important part there. even this year they have a guy (gary oldman) whose ex-wife accused of abusing her.
