the impression that i get is that if you don't recognise who the people are then you won't get why its unusual why they're photographed together, and that writing underneath who they are might somehow spoil the surprise of seeing them together - have i got that right? i don't mind either way personally...

No, I didn't recognize Alicia Keys, even though I'm familiar with her work. The thought of her and Adams sitting next to each other is still mind boggling.

Besides I think a lot of the pleasure from some of these photos comes out of the fact that they are unposed and informal, which that one certainly is.

RZA's a bigtime chess player. Chess pieces were part of an art exhibit Yoko had back in the 60s. (all of the pieces here are white and there is no checker pattern.)
