haha me too!

lol so the email I got back was like "OMG I'M SO GLAD YOU CARE ABOUT THIS ISSUE" and gave me the distinct feeling that the respondent shared my/our concerns? I am now feeling v warm and friendly toward them. Or at least toward her.

I told her that "a bunch of people from the internet" would be very glad of their stance on charitable giving.

...but if they are LDS, wouldn't still 10% of their earnings go to their anti-choice, anti-gay church?

kate78, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 21:00 (twelve years ago) link

This dress is currently on its way to me!

I'm not actually sure whether they are LDS or not! Do we know for sure? I know they're highly recommended for both dresses & swimwear among LDS women but it's supposed to be because of their "modest dress" aesthetic, which given the hourglass shape of most of the SA offerings is p hilarious.

I just saw that they gave to "charitable causes" and Jenny pointed out that could easily include some groups we wouldn't want to support, hence my email.

FWIW my mom (source) confirms Shabby Apple is owned/run by Mormons. Not a dealbreaker for me but YMMV. Their dresses are fabulous & I wish I had some money to throw at them.

I just got this cuuute teal & gold dress in a consignment shop, with the tags still on, for $23! It's over the knee and feels more grown-up than my other dresses. The only thing is it has a zip up the side which is a bit unnecessary as it's stretchy and I can put it on over my head without it, but it causes the side of the dress to kind of pop out in a weird shape sometimes (I have another dress that does this and it's annoying) so I'm wondering if I can get the zip taken out and just sewn up?

kinder, Saturday, 25 February 2012 01:09 (twelve years ago) link

ooooh! that sounds delightful. i love teal and gold.

tehresa, Saturday, 25 February 2012 01:14 (twelve years ago) link

Kinder, I took a dress like that to a tailor who took the zipper right out and it looked great, worked fine. I maybe could have done it myself but it was stretchy lace over stretchy red material underneath. The lace and stretchiness intimidated me and I didn't want to wreck it. It cost me $18.

*tera, Saturday, 25 February 2012 02:23 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah, I think I'll do that. Thanks!

kinder, Saturday, 25 February 2012 03:44 (twelve years ago) link

I really love this dress
http://us.asos.com/ASOS/ASOS-Midi-Dress-In-Watercolour-Print/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=1956859
but the back is un-bra-friendly and the length would stumpify unless I wore heels so it's probably a no :(

kinder, Saturday, 3 March 2012 23:15 (twelve years ago) link

That is a pretty dress...I'd go bra-less. However viscose isn't like a good cotton or even rayon. I am a 36-38c but have gone bra-less with thick cotton and linen dresses with open or low cut backs.

Spent some time on that website, lots of cute dresses!

So has anyone purchased from Shabby Apple? Wondering what the quality is like.

Same question about eshakti, is their stuff any good?

I will let you know in a couple weeks! I just ordered a dress from them.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Sunday, 1 April 2012 15:08 (twelve years ago) link

There is a super cute yellow and gray dress I want from there, but I pinned it and it got repinned a bunch and out! I got an email a couple days ago that it was back in stock and it sold out again before I could buy it!

just1n3, Sunday, 1 April 2012 15:39 (twelve years ago) link

Damn you pinterest!

I've never ordered from Shabby Apple but I think eShakti's quality is really good. You definitely need to measure yourself and go by their size chart instead of just going by the size you wear in other brands. I'm a couple of sizes bigger in eShakti dresses, but they fit me really well. I find their knee-length dresses are too short for me, but ymmv on that one.

carl agatha, Sunday, 1 April 2012 16:34 (twelve years ago) link

two weeks pass...

So I got this dress from Eshakti last week

http://img.eshakti.com/clothImages/CL0021673L.jpg

It's really quite nice but agree with Carl that they run small. I ordered a size up and it just barely fits. It's also a weird length so I'm going to have it hemmed but overall I think it's very good quality.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Wednesday, 18 April 2012 19:27 (twelve years ago) link

I love that! I'm still waiting for my last eShakti order, placed early March. It's due to ship on the 20th! :( It took me 5 emails to get that out of them.. apparently they were on Good Morning America a while back and there's a chance the popularity has overwhelmed them.. grr.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 18 April 2012 19:35 (twelve years ago) link

Sweet jesus, you could order a dress at the beginning of summer and not get it til the end. That's a bad scene.

how did I get here? why am I in the whiskey aisle? this is all so (Laurel), Wednesday, 18 April 2012 19:36 (twelve years ago) link

This'd be my third or fourth order and the previous orders came very quickly - I'd say three weeks or so within placing the order - but their FB wall is a sea of "where is my order?" right now.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 18 April 2012 19:38 (twelve years ago) link

Ah, that explains the emails I've received offering discounts and reassurances. I was like, "I don't think I ordered anything recently?" and I didn't, but I guess they are just getting in touch with regular customers.

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Wednesday, 18 April 2012 19:42 (twelve years ago) link

I get some of that too - the 12.5% discounts? Leading up to Womens' Day (groan) they had a 25% off gift card sale, so I had my husband and a friend buy me a $150 card each. There may have been more women as crazy as me. To be fair, they were nice enough to tell me that if the purchase had been for a specific event I could cancel it, but I just want new dresses, damnit.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 18 April 2012 19:44 (twelve years ago) link

FWIW the dress I just posted came shockingly quickly. I'd say it was less than two weeks from the day I ordered it until it arrived.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Wednesday, 18 April 2012 19:47 (twelve years ago) link

I must've ordered during a black hole. Annoying! Or perhaps they are scared to cut my custom measurements, thinking surely there aren't any 6 foot tall rectangle-shaped females. :P

My mother in law bought me a dress from macys that I'm having second thoughts about. It's bright turquoise, sleeveless, full skirt, knee length.

I really wish I'd gotten the cap sleeve pinup dress in navy with a red belt, but she talked me out of it and now I can't find it online :(

just1n3, Wednesday, 18 April 2012 20:36 (twelve years ago) link

Both sound really cute!

*tera, Wednesday, 18 April 2012 23:37 (twelve years ago) link

Had never heard of eShakti but now that I have I WANT so many dresses off that website!!!!

*tera, Wednesday, 18 April 2012 23:41 (twelve years ago) link

I've been meaning to try them for ages, have a date with the website this weekend.

ljubljana, Thursday, 19 April 2012 00:23 (twelve years ago) link

Well FWIW, APR125 is a 12.5% discount for April. :)

Ooh thanks!

ljubljana, Thursday, 19 April 2012 03:54 (twelve years ago) link

Finally got the eShakti dresses after seven weeks
They do not fit ;_; I can get into them but maaaan are they tight. Just when I was feeling great for losing weight! Sigh.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 26 April 2012 21:51 (twelve years ago) link

How do you choose your size? do you take your measurements and match them to their sizing chart or do you get the custom sizing?

just1n3, Thursday, 26 April 2012 23:03 (twelve years ago) link

I did the time before, but it was too big so I ordered a size down. Dumb dumb. it doesn't have as much stretch as it implied because of this sewn-in belt :p I bought two, in different patterns. Perfect otherwise.. I'll keep them as presents for when all this healthy eating pays off.

Just got my bridesmaid dress in the mail for best friend's wedding this summer. Friend picked 'em out.

http://maur.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pMAUR1-11903147v275.jpg

I am totally ***shocked*** that it fit perfectly.* Cotton for outdoor wedding, only $40, can wear it other places and shit.

*tiny bit too roomy in the bust but this problem is way less notable than normal

That is adorable.

It even covers up my weird cabbage patch knees. Like, too perfect. Thank you the god.

Dale, dale, dale (Abbbottt), Saturday, 28 April 2012 00:09 (twelve years ago) link

aw super cute!
i suppose you could wear a lightly padded bra is the bust is too roomy?
lol "cabbage patch knees"! that smacks only of cuteness imo

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Saturday, 28 April 2012 00:18 (twelve years ago) link

that is a great bridesmaid dress and your friend is awesome for not making you spend tons of $$ on an ugly POS that you'll never wear again. i want to post pics of the dresses my NZ friend made her bridesmaids wear, bc they look like maternity-wear for 6o-yr olds.

omg i found my DREAM dress on eShakti but I might customize to make sure it really is perfect. IT HAS A COLLAR, PEOPLE. ITS A-LINE. ITS GOT A BANDED WAIST. FUCK!

I promise I'm a regular poster here so I'm uncomfortable with how spammy this seems, but at the same time being a poster here (ILM,ILV,ILE pretty exclusively) makes this an obvious network to at least TRY, gasp.

Anyway, I work for a fashion designer now, her website just launched and I'm promoting from a clean slate as far as online presence goes. Any advice for me? Do you like the dresses?

I like the Mod dress and the High Society top a lot but would not buy them because they do not come anywhere close to my size.
