Great track, matt2.. I guess there's a lot of stuff happening in the whole UK funky zone that has great percussion in it but to me it often feels very Protoolsed, very regimented (which is a big part of its appeal, obv - you get these precision-tooled counterrhythms that play off each other and create a whole new groove just by combining)

I was seduced by the live percussion sound as a result of going to Frank's Lounge at least once a month for Bang the Party, when that still happened.. There were almost always one or two guys with big congas who would play throughout the set, and their sound just blended in with everything to the point where you forgot they were separate from all the records.

my band played in nyc a couple times with this dj nickodemus, who always had a couple live percussionists. definitely the coolest part of the thing.

and this is probably obvious but i really like lcd soundsystem's sloppy percussion breaks, like on 'beat connection' etc
