hm, I dunno, I feel like something has to actually be legit to break through into historical relevance like that, and... I mean there's this attitude right now that this post-Emo/Scene thing is just something older generations couldn't understand, but from what I've seen there are smarter, less shitty kids of this same generation off making witchhouse/seapunk/icepunk/etc... and these metalcore/Scene kids are their generation's shitty equivalent of, say, Good Charlote or whatever

have a v hard time seeing/hearing anything wrong with that, fucking awesome
...except the lyrics, holy shit, children are foul things
― Little GTFO (contenderizer), Sunday, 12 February 2012 07:24 (twelve years ago) link
Yeah, well, unless kids have changed drastically since my era (hey, guess what, they haven't) that sexist horrible shit doesn't appeal. Well, yeah, it appeals to frat boys and alterna-trendies, but they've always been there, they've always been shit, and they've never represented what most of the generation want.
― emil.y, Sunday, 12 February 2012 07:47 (twelve years ago) link
that's the thing. sound is awesome. content is repulsive beyond belief. "your daddy will be proud of his stupid little girl / shut the fuck up". no, just shut the fuck up, forever.
― Little GTFO (contenderizer), Sunday, 12 February 2012 07:51 (twelve years ago) link
just trying to draw the boundaries clearly. it's not that i have a problem with their sound...
― Little GTFO (contenderizer), Sunday, 12 February 2012 07:52 (twelve years ago) link
...the hell
I almost want to like this stuff - it could be argued these bands are actually going into new territory here, but it's all so shit
― Chris S
I'm on the same boat... they're overtly ambitious but the result is crap. It's like getting the top spot at ratemypoo ambition.
― Moka, Sunday, 12 February 2012 07:54 (twelve years ago) link
They're not ambitious, though. If they were, they'd be pushing more boundaries than 'brostep crabcore'. It's not like they're creating anything new, I mean, Jesus, I think it'd be generous to say they're even amalgamating things in a new way. They're just obnoxious and shitty.
― emil.y, Sunday, 12 February 2012 07:57 (twelve years ago) link
^ yeah. even the intro is a straight-up ripoff of "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites." where's the ambition in that?
― plee help i am lookin for (crüt), Sunday, 12 February 2012 08:00 (twelve years ago) link
eh, ambition and "boundary pushing" are dubiously constructed. pop just has to sound fresh and catchy to its audience.
― Little GTFO (contenderizer), Sunday, 12 February 2012 08:28 (twelve years ago) link
Yeah I meant ambitious in their stacking up as much crap they can find and pulling off a big turd of nothingness. Ambition doesn't really equate to originality or boundary pushing in my mind... it has more to do with biting off more than you can chew, and then chewing it.
― Moka, Sunday, 12 February 2012 08:51 (twelve years ago) link
true, the question is when and what to combine, to what end, etc.
character may have something to do with it too, the personality/type reflected/spoken to in the form. this is very much 'being awful to make awful music to be awful to'

emil.y, how did you come across this? This thread & the Brokencyde thread are my main points of contact w/the post-crab 'nuum, but I'm sure there's rich veins of Skrillexicore being mined atm that I'm oblivious to.

Not sure that tearing apart, line by line, an illiterate guy talking about being clinically depressed is a particularly good look on that website's part, tbh.

and all this time I thought Stick Stickly was some brilliant Tim & Eric style parody, this is great(seriously though I hate websites that try to add "humorous commentary" to something that's already funny when all they can write is "uhhh...what?" and "nice grammar, lol")

― ( ͡° ͜ʖ͡°) (sic), Thursday, 13 December 2012 23:50 (eleven years ago) link
the commentary is indeed more hateful and irksome than anything that Attack Attack guy wrote. Sure he can't write for toffee, but the journo's writing and overall "HAR HAR HAR LOOK AT THIS GUY, HE CAN'T EVEN PUT A SENTENCE TOGETHER WHAT A MORAN" is about as entertaining as a rusty nail. Considering one is the bass player in a shit post-emo band and the other tries to pass himself off as a writer, I'm struggling to work out who comes off worst.

on the same level as Oatmeal guy's response to the Gawker article, though at least in that situation both participants can take care of themselves rather than being "lol crabcore guy no write good".
