OMG yeah, now I remember why I quit reading too. Stay far far away from the comments section on the Anthony Abbate case post.

hadn't heard about the city sticker thing at all. oops.

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 22:22 (twelve years ago) link

I just read about the gang sign thing and it is suuuuuuper dumb. Like, super dumb. You know what those hands look like? Hands drawn by somebody who can't draw hands very well. That's it. Good christ, what a bunch of fucking dummies.

carl agatha, Wednesday, 8 February 2012 22:58 (twelve years ago) link

Yo, I'm in Houston.

Jeff, Thursday, 9 February 2012 00:12 (twelve years ago) link

We're losing Jeff to Big Oil.

xxp that's what I said to R, that it comes off more as a notion from a obsessive/paranoid person than of anything else

long duk dan (dan m), Thursday, 9 February 2012 01:49 (twelve years ago) link

I changed my user name so I could call Jody Weiss a fucking dummy on the internet.

omg there is just now a total explosion of frat boy debauchery happening outside our apartment... Is there some kind of major midwest college sportsball something or other happening?

carl agatha, Thursday, 9 February 2012 04:14 (twelve years ago) link

The previous Friday, Rakesh J. Baker, 23, drove his SUV five miles inbound on the outbound Stevenson Expressway before crashing head-on with another vehicle on the ramp from LakeShore Drive. No one was killed.

On Dec. 15, a driver traveled 11 miles north in the southbound lanes of the Kennedy and Edens expressways before he was stopped. Miraculously, he didn't hit anyone. The driver was arrested on DUI charges.

what would you guys call the neighborhood around grand & milwaukee & halsted? also, any restaurant recommendations around there?

the third kind of dubstep (Jordan), Thursday, 9 February 2012 16:53 (twelve years ago) link

according to my bike map it's considered river north

tanuki, Thursday, 9 February 2012 16:55 (twelve years ago) link

there's a kitsch'n at chicago and halsted, that's the only place i can think of

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 9 February 2012 16:56 (twelve years ago) link

I can imagine how disorienting it would be to see a car coming at you in your lane, and how it might be just too surreal to react to.

J: That's kind of West Town, but kind of no man's land.

But there's a good restaurant in an old narrow dining car: Silver Palm.

(Silver Palm is right at Milwaukee/Chicago/Halsted)

‘Neuroscience’ and ‘near death’ pepper (Eazy), Thursday, 9 February 2012 16:57 (twelve years ago) link

i think of river north as being east of the river (LOL) but i wouldn't know what the area jordan's talking about would be

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 9 February 2012 16:57 (twelve years ago) link

I would probably call it West Town, too.

For restaurants, I'd go just a few blocks west of that intersection, across the highway. There's a decent sushi/Thai place (Butterfly), an Italian deli that's supposed to be excellent (Bari), and a biker-themed burger joint (Twisted Spoke).

Right at Grand/Milwaukee/Halsted, there's a nice Italian place called Piccolo Sogno that I hear is good, although I get the impression people mostly like it for the sprawling enclosed patio in the summer.

jaymc, Thursday, 9 February 2012 17:06 (twelve years ago) link

(Silver Palm is right at Milwaukee/Chicago/Halsted)

Actually, this is Milwaukee/Chicago/Ogden. About the same distance as the places I mentioned, but northwest instead of west.

jaymc, Thursday, 9 February 2012 17:07 (twelve years ago) link

thanks guys. we'll probably just go to victory's banner anyway.

the third kind of dubstep (Jordan), Thursday, 9 February 2012 17:08 (twelve years ago) link

ha, that's right, twisted spoke is one of those places that shows p0rn during brunch

the third kind of dubstep (Jordan), Thursday, 9 February 2012 17:09 (twelve years ago) link

attn n/a - today i was walking my dog and it was sunny and beautiful and your song "place and time" started playing and i was like WHAT IS THIS (I have a shuffle, can't see what's playing ever) but as soon as you started singing, i knew what it was and was like DANG this song is good

just wanted to tell you that
of those two i have historically preferred "mind" but the other one sounded super best today.

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Thursday, 9 February 2012 17:11 (twelve years ago) link

a little bit southwest (like a 10 minute walk maybe?) of grand/halsted/milwaukee is where Publican is, and after going there a few weeks ago I am a stan for that place

long duk dan (dan m), Thursday, 9 February 2012 17:20 (twelve years ago) link

if anyone wants to join me on friday, lemme know
or just meet me at the green mill and surprise me
like pop out from behind the banquette and scream SURPRIZE!

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Thursday, 9 February 2012 17:23 (twelve years ago) link

what time?

tanuki, Thursday, 9 February 2012 17:39 (twelve years ago) link

attn n/a - today i was walking my dog and it was sunny and beautiful and your song "place and time" started playing and i was like WHAT IS THIS (I have a shuffle, can't see what's playing ever) but as soon as you started singing, i knew what it was and was like DANG this song is good

aw thanks amanda! i am happy with those songs too. i've been getting more excited about home recording stuff again recently (using my reel-to-reel 4-track more) and have a few songs and so hopefully someday i'll put out more stuff. trying to get a short album's worth done first. kind of in that same vein of trying to keep the songs and arrangements pretty simple, but maybe a little slower/murkier than those songs. also we're going to jam with ben again in march sometime but dunno if we'll really have anything to record.

i tried to record some ebow drones recently based on your request but my delay/looping pedal, which is central to the process, appears to be busted. hopefully i just need a new adapter for it.

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 9 February 2012 17:40 (twelve years ago) link

we're in springfield this weekend so no mama digdowns for us

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 9 February 2012 17:40 (twelve years ago) link

Our weekend is kind of up in the air -- might be up for MD on Sat., though.

I think Jody and I might collab on some recordings, Postal Service-style.

jaymc, Thursday, 9 February 2012 17:42 (twelve years ago) link

fun. if you guys need spastic noise guitar on anything, just let me know.

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 9 February 2012 17:44 (twelve years ago) link

if you need a spastic person for anything, let me know

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Thursday, 9 February 2012 17:48 (twelve years ago) link

i think the show starts at 9 tanuki!

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Thursday, 9 February 2012 17:49 (twelve years ago) link

but we have to get there early so lemme know if you're serious tomorrow and we can coordinate

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Thursday, 9 February 2012 17:49 (twelve years ago) link

9 am Saturday class means no Friday night Digd0wns for me. I'll play Saturday night by ear. Honestly I'm coming off a crazy busy two weeks, officially over once I drag myself home from class on Saturday, and there's a good chance I will be unintentionally asleep on the couch before you start playing.

carl agatha, Thursday, 9 February 2012 17:50 (twelve years ago) link

I am dumb and haven't been following well — what kind of show is it?

long duk dan (dan m), Thursday, 9 February 2012 17:58 (twelve years ago) link

ah, okay — I'd go if it was just me but Phillip and I will be hanging out on Friday and I don't know if I could convince him to sit through a set of dixieland jazz :\

tanuki, Thursday, 9 February 2012 18:07 (twelve years ago) link

if you change your mind, lemme know!

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Thursday, 9 February 2012 18:13 (twelve years ago) link

also green mill is a nice place to go on a date fyi

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Thursday, 9 February 2012 18:13 (twelve years ago) link

I've never been but really want to since seeing it explode in Thief

tanuki, Thursday, 9 February 2012 18:20 (twelve years ago) link

i'm just saying that i think you can build it up sufficiently to make him want to go
make it sound classy and exciting! uptown! al capone! secret tunnels! grouchy but extremely efficient veteran cocktail waitresses!

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Thursday, 9 February 2012 18:24 (twelve years ago) link

some of my soccerfriends are likely going to be there tomorrow night, I've been invited but I don't know if I can stay up that late anymore :(

long duk dan (dan m), Thursday, 9 February 2012 18:27 (twelve years ago) link

the sat show starts and ends a little earlier, 8 - 12 iirc.

ha i forgot about that video, i am not a big fan of it. this is by far my favorite of the random videos on youtube (for the 2nd half mostly):

Italian deli that's supposed to be excellent (Bari)

Jordan, you would probably like this place. Tasty, oily Italian sandwiches.

garbage corn fan (Je55e), Thursday, 9 February 2012 19:10 (twelve years ago) link

i bet. do they do hot sandwiches? because i really like hot sandwiches. could always get them to go and then put them under the broiler i guess.

i'm planning on hitting that banh mi place on broadway before the show tomorrow.

the third kind of dubstep (Jordan), Thursday, 9 February 2012 19:20 (twelve years ago) link
