the douchebag and dirtbag need some kind of odd couple '12 show. i mean they kind of do but there are other people in it now.

Critique of Pure Moods (goole), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 03:15 (twelve years ago) link

wait are you saying nick is the dirtbag??

j., Wednesday, 8 February 2012 03:55 (twelve years ago) link

Oh come on, ABSOLUTELY Nick is the dirtbag!

i don't know their names

Critique of Pure Moods (goole), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 05:02 (twelve years ago) link

he's a little down on his luck but he seems like a decent guy.

j., Wednesday, 8 February 2012 06:04 (twelve years ago) link

if anything, they need to make Nick even crustier (that underwear bit was great)

Nhex, Wednesday, 8 February 2012 07:16 (twelve years ago) link

Nick's garbage disposal clearing pole was a nice callback to his jury-rigged repairs in an earlier episode..

Nearly shit myself laughing at "intergalactic sex dojo."

I thought this was funny, and it amused me that the creepy landlord played a creepy vampire on Buffy.

I saw She & Him a year or so ago, a big outdoor show, packed ..

i too was at that show in chicago (nice 3 week worked based jolly during Mill. Park Festival season! ).
packed does not come into it, the park was insanely overcrowded.
i had no idea as to who Z was, or She & Him, so called it quits after the support, but i could hear the tweeness back in my apartment and realised i had done the right thing.

as for the tv show : its alright.

Holy shit tonight's New Girl was fucking incredible

― I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Tuesday, February 7, 2012 8:35 PM (Yesterday) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

Watched the first four episodes of New Girl a while back. It was horrible. Did it improve like 1000x?

new girl is pretty funny, but it's because of the chemistry between the dudes that it is funny. i didn't see tonights ep but last week's final scene where nick is like "we all wear each other's underwear" and the other boys are looking at him with these shocked/disgusted looks on each other's faces was highly lolworthy.

The chemistry between the dudes? They're horrible and boring. At least ZD quirkiness is sometimes charming and not always treakly, even though it's not exactly comedy. Also she's not that weird. The dude's iniinterraction with her was written by some hack who was raised an a frat skinner box.

show has definitely improved since the first few episodes, whole cast has started to click and it's more of an ensemble than a 'here's what the title character is doing and how the supporting characters are reacting to it' show

the two wite guys are legit funny. they both have different but complementary i'm-losing-my-shit modes.

the black guy hasn't really differentiated himself to me, but i've only seen the show like 3 or 4 times. is he nerdy?

Critique of Pure Moods (goole), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 16:00 (twelve years ago) link

No, he is a basketball player. (I'm not joking.) (But he played in Latvia or something.)

You got to ro-o-oll me and call me the tumblr whites (Phil D.), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 16:01 (twelve years ago) link

latvia! so indie

Critique of Pure Moods (goole), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 16:02 (twelve years ago) link

Damon Wayans Jr. was definitely funnier (and picked the right show to pick w/) but The New Black Guy isn't a weak link in the cast or anything, he's had his moments

yes! i'm surprised you're not aware of its burgeoning ilx following: ABC's hangout comedy Happy Endings, starring Coupe, Cuthbert, Casey, and Wayans the Younger

Never heard anything good about this show until last night, and now it's an avalanche of good (here, Twitter followers, etc.). Must've turned it around.

Yes. Also you're doing it wrong.

Also she's not that weird. The dude's iniinterraction with her was written by some hack who was raised an a frat skinner box.

3 of those first 4 episodes were written by women, FYI.

I am sort of aghast that people actually think this show is good. I've never seen it but I figured that people were just watching it for eye candy. People like a lot of things I don't find funny at all though so I don't think I'd be into it.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 18:20 (twelve years ago) link

But I will give it a shot just in case.

Also just remembered that last night's ep was directed by Peyton Reed of Bring It On/Down With Love fame.

Raised in a frat skinner box stocked with bro magazines.

Those dudes were such cardboard cutout types, and like half of the interactions were disjointed--not in an irl sort of way, but in a creative writing 101 sort of way.

I'll watch the most recent episode on the internets for kicks to see if you are totally cracked.

x-post - It was just a really big pic and my desk faces the hallway. Prob should know to browse with images off by now anyway tbh.

maybe just the threads called "damn, damn, damn does this woman look good"

No, I think you're being fair, E -- I'm OK with images in general at work, but I never open the WS thread here.

lag∞n, Wednesday, 8 February 2012 18:45 (twelve years ago) link

Grady, it looks complete garbage, c'mon. That's why I said I was surprised! Don't be a jerk.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 18:45 (twelve years ago) link

haha i sympathized with yr post cuz its a lot less garbage than it looks like it would be like instead of being actively bad its just mostly not funnie and lazy

hav u seen the one abt the towel tho

lag∞n, Wednesday, 8 February 2012 18:47 (twelve years ago) link

x-posts You too, Jon.

Thank you, Lamp. Everything about it looks like it would be painful to watch but, like I said, I'm willing to suspend disbelief and give it a shot.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 18:47 (twelve years ago) link

I have seen the show twice: once b/c a girl who was in an improv class I took 3 yrs ago had a small role in it (she was one of the bell ringers) and then the most recent ep, b/c I heard it was self-aware abt Zooey's image. Both eps were funnier than I expected but also not really essential.

jaymc, Wednesday, 8 February 2012 18:47 (twelve years ago) link

i havent seen any of the nu-era new girl episodes i saw one abt a wedding and one that was the pilot and one abt finding a dead body or s.thing

BJ O (Lamp), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 18:49 (twelve years ago) link

Mostly I'm just not a big sitcom person these days. This better be good now.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 18:50 (twelve years ago) link

I get dismissing it out of hand, I did too until my wife made me watch a couple episodes with her. It was just the part about being "aghast" that someone would like it was kinda nagl when you hadn't seen it yourself.

Gonjasufjanstephen O'Malley (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 18:50 (twelve years ago) link

I was about to be all "... dead body?" but then I remembered, that was the Thanksgiving episode
