This was a third-tier jam of mine last summer. Reminds me of second-to-third album Liz Phair. I'm glad that she's an out bisexual. Glad the dog didn't kill her.

I haven't heard any Michelle Branch other than The Spirit Room singles, which are timeless canon for me.

Does Michelle Branch Shave or Flush?

every single one of those headlines is incredible

the would-be M. Branch comeback single "Loud Music" was my jam last summer

the upthread stuff is lol. i always wondered if there was an ilx moment where he had to confront the reality that there would be a music discussion related to him without the other person knowing who he was! the internet is weird, man

xpost

I'd argue that "Surrounded" is the best song of that whole era/genre, though it more belongs to the slightly earlier Lilith Fair one.

"Chantal Kreviazuk has no personal redeeming qualities Im away of. Shes right near the top of the list of musicians I wished I had slapped sense into when I had the chance.
― Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles),"

this warrants more elucidation

I only know of this woman from used CD bins.

I worked on a couple of MB records years ago and she was a sweetheart so she wins this VS for me :)

Norah jones' little broken hearts is a fucking good album

kolakube (Ross), Sunday, 7 January 2018 03:34 (six years ago) link

yes norah jones is all time great. most of her albums are great and she's a nice person.

ok, this Michelle Branch show is pretty lit:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=geNXd5Q850s

I can't decide if my favorite moment is when she bums a hair tie from a roadie, asks the audience if they've heard the band Lifehouse, announces that "Everywhere" is gonna be on TRL Wannabes, or stops twice in mid-song to berate her audience for abandoning her during the rain ("it didn't ruin Woodstock!") a minute before the announcer comes onstage to call off the show. this was a week after "Everywhere" was released, so there's this weird tension where she's on the cusp of fame but she's still playing middle-of-nowhere gigs with apparently no quality control from her road/sound crew. it's a little surreal to hear such a raw, real performance from an era when when major label singer-songwriters were generally polished and micromanaged to a fault.

(and ok, I hadn't realized that MB was such a qtπ)

Vanessa Carlton must be at least slightly annoyed that her biggest hit is chiefly remembered in 2018 as "that vine meme with the white girl and the rolling piano"

Norah Jones is boring as fuck.
Going Michelle Branch, she’s great on the Santana cheese puff “game of love”

Have you actually heard little broken hearts or is that just a knee jerk dismissal?

kolakube (Ross), Friday, 12 January 2018 19:42 (six years ago) link

The final track on that album is more Mazzy star than Norah

kolakube (Ross), Friday, 12 January 2018 19:43 (six years ago) link

Sorry man no I haven’t heard that particular track
But I’m familiar with her debut which was strangely, hypnotizingly boring. And I did give one of her later albums a chance and it was just snoozeville...

Yeah honestly id feel the same way as you if I hasn't heard that one record. Rest is a snooze sure. Cheers mate

kolakube (Ross), Friday, 12 January 2018 19:49 (six years ago) link

she is not snoozeville

“Call Your Girlfriend” is the first of six monthly covers Carlton is promising this year. Her most recent album Liberman is out now on Dine Alone Records.

it's as if it doesn't even attempt to add anything to the song (apart from a less appealing diction)

thread title is nonsense

niels, Thursday, 22 March 2018 17:30 (six years ago) link

I haven't formulated an opinion on that but the thread revive reminded me of one of the brighter moments of 2016: "Goodbye Ted Cruz."
