honestly I can (and usually do) skip "Jimmy" without reservation or regret

"$20" and "XR2" later on totally make up for it and more, though

"world town" is the best track on KALA imo

DO NOT CALL (The Brainwasher), Friday, 3 February 2012 20:19 (twelve years ago) link

well, there is one track towards the end that's pretty good. forget what it's called though.

adolf jingle balls (contenderizer), Friday, 3 February 2012 20:22 (twelve years ago) link

she looks amazingly gorge for 37 don't she?

piscesx, Friday, 3 February 2012 20:34 (twelve years ago) link

She's 37 for real? Yeah, she does.

At any rate, I unsurprisingly love this.

lag∞n affiliated (The Reverend), Friday, 3 February 2012 23:15 (twelve years ago) link

the video is so great. the whole thing has an amazing swagger and style !
the song itself was good and still is but I find the extra part doesn't bring much to was was already there and by the end it gets a bit boring.
still, this could and should be a huge hit !

AlXTC from Paris, Saturday, 4 February 2012 01:11 (twelve years ago) link

to what was

AlXTC from Paris, Saturday, 4 February 2012 01:11 (twelve years ago) link

I will be amazed if this is a hit

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Saturday, 4 February 2012 02:18 (twelve years ago) link

well, my "pop instinct" (whatever that means !) hasn't been that excited by a song (thanks to its video) for a long time and from the first reactions on youtube, FB, etc, there might be a big buzz starting... we'll see !

AlXTC from Paris, Saturday, 4 February 2012 10:11 (twelve years ago) link

The video's gorgeous ("2 Fast 2 Furious: Orientalism Edition" is exactly what i like from her) but the song's so dull and repetitious. I'm not disappointed by it bcz by now my expectations are pretty low but it's not exactly exciting, is it.

marcus junius ubiquitus (c sharp major), Saturday, 4 February 2012 12:28 (twelve years ago) link

I just watched the new madonna MIA/NM video on youtube and it has about 3 million hits since Feb 2 and bad girls has around 1 million since the same day : so MIA has 1/3 of the success of a new madonna's single, not too bad !

AlXTC from Paris, Saturday, 4 February 2012 14:52 (twelve years ago) link

if only either of them were worth getting excited over

first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Saturday, 4 February 2012 15:00 (twelve years ago) link

no way will it be a hit. i like it though.

hard for me to separate out my 'objective' feelings about the video with my feelings that MIA is a total babe

max, Saturday, 4 February 2012 15:05 (twelve years ago) link

well, I haven't cared for madonna for a long time and this track won't change that (MIA is not doing anything special in it and Minaj is cool). but the bad girls package is great ! although this version doesn't add much to the mixtape one, at least it's properly released. It would have been a shame to let that track without giving it a chance as a single.

AlXTC from Paris, Saturday, 4 February 2012 15:09 (twelve years ago) link

no way will it be a hit.

there should be a "I love bets" !

AlXTC from Paris, Saturday, 4 February 2012 15:10 (twelve years ago) link

i was talking about the MIA track fwiw but i dont think either one will be a hit

max, Saturday, 4 February 2012 15:12 (twelve years ago) link

arguing over whether a new pop song will be "a hit" is the most boring boring thing to do or see, leave that to fora like popjustice

they may well both be hits but even if that's the case they will still both be mediocre songs

first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Saturday, 4 February 2012 15:16 (twelve years ago) link

says you !

AlXTC from Paris, Saturday, 4 February 2012 15:20 (twelve years ago) link

or do you have an objective scientific quality meter ?

AlXTC from Paris, Saturday, 4 February 2012 15:20 (twelve years ago) link

and the "will it be a hit" question is not serious... just about being enthusiastic over something and wanting the most people to know about it !

AlXTC from Paris, Saturday, 4 February 2012 15:23 (twelve years ago) link

weirdly she's possibly the 'biggest' most famous female pop star of the last 10 years to have so few real hits in fact
http://www.everyhit.com/searchsec.php

it's weird. most of her fans DL em for free i guess.

piscesx, Saturday, 4 February 2012 15:30 (twelve years ago) link

yeah, I guess it's because the demographic of her "fanbase" is not the same as the other female popstars (maybe older, alt whatever...).

AlXTC from Paris, Saturday, 4 February 2012 15:44 (twelve years ago) link

no way will it be a hit. i like it though.

her pretend-terrorist branding struck a flaw when she called her mixtape "Piracy Funds Terrorism" I guess

great video

J0rdan S., Sunday, 5 February 2012 17:42 (twelve years ago) link

Finally saw the video and love it. It still sounds like a slow down Boyz or clunky Come Around. I'm sure the cultural/feminist blogs will all be in a teezy about it.

genuinely surprised people love it. it looks like an advert to me

All car ads should look like that, really.

I'm predicting some sort of combination of Bon Jovi, U2, The Eagles, The Rolling Stones, and Springsteen for the next five years.

Gonjasufjanstephen O'Malley (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 6 February 2012 03:50 (twelve years ago) link

Haha, actually I just googled it and there is a FB petition to get Bon Jovi for next year.

if Bon Jovi plays at halftime, I'm going to temporarily leave the country for the 30 minutes of halftime.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if it actually happens, I mean they've got all sorts of current country radio love now don't they?

Bring back Carol Channing.

henry s, Monday, 6 February 2012 03:58 (twelve years ago) link

it would make sense because his popularity hasn't really waned at all in the Rock Band/Guitar Hero era so people would go nuts for it...but not me.
