Some of the people who have posted their BIG dreams in the past have…

scored a contract with a major shoe company
gone to Africa to help children living in poverty
launched businesses to sell art on-line
written books
transitioned into jobs they loved
launched non-profit organizations
run marathons
sent truck loads of school supplies to Africa
met new friends and made great contacts

mh, Thursday, 2 February 2012 16:03 (twelve years ago) link

^^ this thing had some local meeting and a friend went and they had some bizarro religion thing going on too

mh, Thursday, 2 February 2012 16:04 (twelve years ago) link

Something called "Bodhi Spiritual Center" is taking over a church across from our apt. I just googled it and the first auto complete was "Bodhi spiritual center cult."

LL, The Tower of Invincibility is amazing.

For some reason I thought the School of Practical Philosphy was related to theosophy but I can't find a link after reading up. Still...it's kind of all the same?

one little aioli (Laurel), Thursday, 2 February 2012 16:09 (twelve years ago) link

I have a picture of myself in front of it on facebook, i think? i look totally invincible.

La Lechera, Thursday, 2 February 2012 16:10 (twelve years ago) link

I know an older couple who are/were theosophists (we've fallen out of touch now). The gentleman once tried to heal my friend's sore ankle with energy manipulation that involved holding his hands over her foot and shin, after which my friend swore she thought it'd helped.

Our friendship started to go downhill faster after that.

The "lifehacking" stuff (Ferriss) does seem related.

i wish i could remember exactly how my former roommate phrased her central Landmark metaphor--something about building a foundation for a house that she used for every real-life situation. Mordy, do you remember anything about this?

horseshoe, Thursday, 2 February 2012 17:23 (twelve years ago) link

look we really just need to get into this business so we can retire to our own island and work 4 hours a week

La Lechera, Thursday, 2 February 2012 17:23 (twelve years ago) link

just gonna drop by here and say that among all the stuff gr80 sent me in the last couple of days, this was the thing that jumped out at me the most.

for instance, the video of the guy who claimed that he moved to the remote thai jungle to... become an internet marketer?

most of these dudes seem like they're always one step ahead of the law/their creditors/angry people they've scammed.

or try reading through the endless list of awesomeness fest speakers or attendees or whatever this is:
http://www.awesomenessfest.com/meet-the-tribe/

do a ctrl-f for "serial entrepreneur." or just count the mentions of all the businesses these people have started and "removed themselves from" or "moved on" from.

also do a ctrl-f for "honey badger" and tell me if you understand what that phrase means. is it some sort of code or

the jazz zinger (s1ocki), Thursday, 2 February 2012 17:37 (twelve years ago) link

You can sing "Death and the Maiden" by the Verlaines with "Alan Salami" instead of "Death and the Maiden" and it will make you laugh. That is one thing.

La Lechera, Thursday, 2 February 2012 17:38 (twelve years ago) link

the name "alan salami" is funny enough on its own, it really doesnt need any help
