Yeah. I fall into the Caplan camp.

I'd never been enamored of this person and found the idea of her mildly annoying, but this show is really incredibly funny - especially the Schmidt character, but everyone else as well.

what is the lizzy caplan type?

holy shit that's lizzie caplan? That looks nothing like her!

b) a kind of surprisingly insightful and self-aware analysis of zooey d and zooey d-types vs. lizzy caplan and lizzy caplan-types and the people who prefer one or the other

sadly the A+ accuracy here just made me want to marry lizzy caplan and somehow get zooey d fired from this job.

the towel argument at the end was hilarious.

j., Thursday, 2 February 2012 04:00 (twelve years ago) link

yeah the towel thing was so great

i'm team caplan all the way and the episode in no way changed that but seriously i felt like the whole thing was a pretty canny way of addressing how some people feel about zooey and/or her character that made me kind of respect her and the show more

lana del rey: everythang's workin' (some dude), Thursday, 2 February 2012 04:07 (twelve years ago) link

I've never seen this show but I have always really liked LC.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Thursday, 2 February 2012 04:11 (twelve years ago) link

So I'm the only one on Team Zooey? (Tbh, the first few episodes of this show almost completely ended my crush on her but she seems to be moving back towards 'cute' as opposed to 'obnoxiously absurd'.)

This is OTM btw:

ok so tonight's new girl was both a) really good and funny, especially the last scene and b) a kind of surprisingly insightful and self-aware analysis of zooey d and zooey d-types vs. lizzy caplan and lizzy caplan-types and the people who prefer one or the other

I never liked the show much previously but I totally concur w/ this sentiment. I guess she's sticking around for a bit?

Not a big fan of "Yesterday Once More" and that awkwardly uncomfortable video is not helping.

it's my understanding that Caplan is friends w/ the creator of the show and is just doing an arc for a few episodes, at least for now, although i don't imagine she'll ever join the cast long term

caplan is sardonic and mean and asks u questions about being aware of garfield, zooey is cute and nice and puts smiling lambs on things

Hungry4Ass, Friday, 3 February 2012 20:22 (twelve years ago) link

lol, that's exactly what i figured based on their pictures and zooey's past/fanbase. team lizzy.

adolf jingle balls (contenderizer), Friday, 3 February 2012 20:27 (twelve years ago) link

I watched about six minutes of that interview with Diablo Cody (a few posts above). That was plenty enough to kill any illusions I may have had about her extemporaneous speaking ability. Also, there is some kind of a weird thing going on with the right side of her upper lip that was v distracting.

Aimless, Friday, 3 February 2012 21:27 (twelve years ago) link

Lizzy Caplan just got signed to a Showtime pilot with Michael Sheen called "Masters of Sex.". Apparently it's about sex researchers who wrote an influential book, and not...other things the title might imply. Anyway idk how that'll end up influencing her arc here.

ban opinions (reddening), Friday, 3 February 2012 21:29 (twelve years ago) link

i think if she ends up on a cult cable show that dudes who think she's hot all reflexively watch then her arc won't change at all

pfunkbo bryson (some dude), Friday, 3 February 2012 21:54 (twelve years ago) link

lizzy caplan should have been ws 2012 o.p.

thought it was going to be an Anthology Series like Masters of Horror when I first read it. Zalman King might have done a segment, had he not died today.

altho i can't even feign how big a zooey deschanel fan i'm not, b/c this image has honestly been a fixture on my wallpaper for months

That picture is fucking terrifying.

billstevejim, Sunday, 5 February 2012 05:17 (twelve years ago) link

and I think it's supposed to represent her "acting range" or something, which apparently consists of 2 faces.. "i'm confused and quirky," "i'm smiling and quirky"

billstevejim, Sunday, 5 February 2012 05:21 (twelve years ago) link

zooey deschanel - damn, damn, damn does this woman's comedy vehicle blow.

Photograph at the top of the thread doesn't even look like her. But, yes, I eventually saw an episode of this show and are we supposed to care about anybody or anything in it?

new girl, whatever its faults or merits are, is not really a "please care about these people!" parks & rec type show

some dude, Tuesday, 7 February 2012 14:02 (twelve years ago) link

Any show that is "please care about these people" is obv. a piece of crap, this is more a "oh who gives a fuck, what's on the other channel" type show

watched the New Girl w/ Lizzy Caplan, show would be 10 million times better with her as 'the new girl.'
and I love me some Kat Dennings, but Caplan would improve the hell out of 2 Broke Girls too

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 20:41 (twelve years ago) link

If Caplan had to speak the horrible dialogue they give to Dennings on that show I would die inside.

polyphonic, Tuesday, 7 February 2012 20:42 (twelve years ago) link

yeah that show is beyond saving

some dude, Tuesday, 7 February 2012 20:46 (twelve years ago) link

I caught 5 minutes of that show a few weeks ago (why because Kat Demmings look intersting), and I'm assuming we've already had a huge cluster in the rolling racist thread about the show in general.

Gonjasufjanstephen O'Malley (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 20:59 (twelve years ago) link

we talked about it along those lines in some thread, don't remember if it was that one or maybe one of the tv threads

some dude, Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:03 (twelve years ago) link

wasn't very clustery, though, since it's not like anyone held that show's asian stereotype in the same regard as long duk dong or anything
