i think living in l.a. as a quasi-insider for the last decade has sort of rotted simmons' brain. like he can only think in marketing gimmicks now. he writes about his fucking tournament idea almost as much as he writes about actual basketball.

My third favorite moment was when we massaged the West's glut of quality forwards by making James Harden a guard; it was one of those "What the hell? We're in charge here!" moments where you feel like you're playing God and it's awesome.

is this backwards or?

diln (k3vin k.), Saturday, 11 February 2012 07:00 (twelve years ago) link

pretty terrible column actually. keeps forgetting harden is a 2 for some reason

diln (k3vin k.), Saturday, 11 February 2012 07:09 (twelve years ago) link

I don't think he watches games very much

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 11 February 2012 07:25 (twelve years ago) link

yeah i had the exact same reaction. somehow simmons convinced himself that one of the best young shooting guards in the league is a forward. like maybe he thinks harden doesn't start b/c he "plays the same postion" as durant? and he says it or implies it at least 3 times.

circles, Saturday, 11 February 2012 07:27 (twelve years ago) link

says or implies that he's a 3 that is

I think it's embarrassing that Springsteen now has his wife front and center playing guitar with the E Street Band. There's nothing worse than someone interjecting their spouse into the creative proceedings when she didn't really earn the spot. By the way, my wife wrote this.

the entire part about lebron is so utterly retarded

illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 16 February 2012 18:13 (twelve years ago) link

or is it lebron thats so utterly retarded, think abt it

lag∞n, Thursday, 16 February 2012 18:14 (twelve years ago) link

it takes someone who has only spent his life in boston and los angeles to not understand why someone who grew up in ohio -- even one of the best basketball players ever -- wouldn't really give that much of a shit about "owning" new york

illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 16 February 2012 18:14 (twelve years ago) link

anyone from new york or boston: HE COULD'VE OWNED NEW YORK
anyone that grew up/lives in any other part of the united states: uhhh who gives a shit?

illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 16 February 2012 18:15 (twelve years ago) link

it was funny tho to see knicks fans still massive butthurt about lebron not even considering joining their decrepit franchise for a second

illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 16 February 2012 18:16 (twelve years ago) link

i feel like 'lebron is a pussy' is an excellent and hilarious nba meme even if it has not that much basis in reality, i support it

lag∞n, Thursday, 16 February 2012 18:16 (twelve years ago) link

also it was hilarious when the one emailer said that the knicks have a legit shot of winning the nba title

illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 16 February 2012 18:16 (twelve years ago) link

if lebron had gone to new york everyone wouldve been complaining abt him being an egomaniac moviestar wannabe or w/e, lol he cannot win, because hes a pussy

call all destroyer, Thursday, 16 February 2012 18:34 (twelve years ago) link

I grew up in San Diego but I would kind of like to own New York.

polyphonic, Thursday, 16 February 2012 18:47 (twelve years ago) link

who the fuck wouldnt like to own new york, it would be p rad, i mean owning cleveland what does that even get you, owning miami would be sweet but you cant do that via basketball since no one give a shit

lag∞n, Thursday, 16 February 2012 18:49 (twelve years ago) link

who owns ny right now, eli?

max, Thursday, 16 February 2012 18:50 (twelve years ago) link

i mean i guess j lin

max, Thursday, 16 February 2012 18:50 (twelve years ago) link

but feels like hes kinda borrowing it

max, Thursday, 16 February 2012 18:50 (twelve years ago) link

this is a compelling question

lag∞n, Thursday, 16 February 2012 18:53 (twelve years ago) link

gotta be eli

call all destroyer, Thursday, 16 February 2012 18:54 (twelve years ago) link

eli clearly doesnt care to own new york, and doesnt have the persona for it, just not a match - lin yeah im sure everyone knows is not epic enough to own ny but they still really vibe to him - a non athlete can own ny too of course but im not sure who thatd be

lag∞n, Thursday, 16 February 2012 18:56 (twelve years ago) link

ploppawheelie V (k3vin k.), Thursday, 16 February 2012 20:16 (twelve years ago) link

kinda feel like jeter still owns ny even if hes just grandfathered in at this point

doc has never told me nothing that wasn't true (agent hibachi), Friday, 17 February 2012 19:53 (twelve years ago) link

yeah the point simmons weirdly overlooked in that lebron discussion is that in order to own nyc he would have to join the *knicks* which is its own thing

doc has never told me nothing that wasn't true (agent hibachi), Friday, 17 February 2012 19:54 (twelve years ago) link

i thought that was part of his point, that he could own nyc because he'd make the knicks a legit franchise

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Friday, 17 February 2012 21:30 (twelve years ago) link

lmao i like the idea of lebron moving to nyc and owning it without actually joining the knicks

max, Saturday, 18 February 2012 01:50 (twelve years ago) link

Only 12 months ago, Danny's Celtics were the favorites to win the 2011 NBA title. That didn't stop you from trading your starting center and defensive anchor for a bench player who never fit in and a draft pick you'll almost definitely screw up.

i mean what srsly i do not recall it that way

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 February 2012 23:17 (twelve years ago) link

Rondo: "Danny, we built our championship team around the African word 'Ubuntu,' which means 'togetherness.' We trusted each other and believed in each other."

Perk: "And in our coach."

Rondo: "That bond held for nearly three and a half years. Then, you took that word and flushed it down the toilet by trading Perk, my best friend and someone who loved being a Celtic more than anyone."

pffft

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 February 2012 23:19 (twelve years ago) link

the celtics had a great run won a championship came w/in one quarter of winning another then got old like everyone knew they were going to

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 February 2012 23:19 (twelve years ago) link

c's had the best record early last year but everyone thought that was spurs-esque, heat were the favorites from the minute The Decision ended

doc has never told me nothing that wasn't true (agent hibachi), Thursday, 23 February 2012 23:21 (twelve years ago) link

simmions srsly thinks the celtics can make trades and turn into a title contender, the mind boggles

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 February 2012 23:23 (twelve years ago) link

i mean m all for blowing it up but not to trade for odom and marion wtf, blow it up and start over
