i love Colors of the Sun, too. you can't really listen to Z&A while sitting at the computer waiting for something to happen imo.
i can vouch for this

yeah i hoped the album you mention might place too but i dont think so now. Even though it came out in N America in 2011 its still a 2010 album to most people.Pity, I was looking forward to lots of "I didn't know they had an album out this year" "oh its a different band of the same name?"
xp

some really amazing guitars on this one but I can't get over the vocals - which for people who like it are probably the key to the record.

My first place vote, absolutely love this album but I think this was pretty well hashed out in the singles results thread.

let's have another 50-post digression about hardcore vocals now!

Loved this album, though it did drag after a few listens. Can't remember how high it was on my ballot.

have been following this discussion pretty well, i never knew how many haters there are on ilm.
― marc iv, Tuesday, 31 January 2012 20:04 (twelve years ago) link
was really enthused about this when it dropped, can listen to some tracks in isolation, but that's about it
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 31 January 2012 20:04 (twelve years ago) link
it's a fabulous record, i'd like to see it place higher. concerns about the length and sameiness are well-founded but it just sounds so good i don't really care.
― call all destroyer, Tuesday, 31 January 2012 20:05 (twelve years ago) link
how can someone listen to a band who gives itself such a moronic name? after i had listened to their album i knew why, apparently the only memorable thing about them is their name.
― alex in mainhattan, Tuesday, 31 January 2012 20:06 (twelve years ago) link
Giving this a listen now. I expect to like it unless the vox are as bad as made out. but if its not death metal cookie monster grunting then the vox are prob fine
― Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Tuesday, 31 January 2012 20:07 (twelve years ago) link
ok nothing wrong whatsoever with these vox
funny thing about that fucked up record is that while i wasn't really feeling it at the time (standard complaints about the vocals) and still can't sit through the whole thing at once, i almost always dig the individual tracks when they come up on shuffle - especially if, as on "queen of hearts", they've got someone else singing for a bit. if i'd done a tracks ballot, that song would have scored high.

so many ilxors had never heard hardcore vox before?
― Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Tuesday, 31 January 2012 20:08 (twelve years ago) link
i like fucked up but the whole thing of people marveling about OMG A SHOUTY HARDCORE BAND GOT A BONER FOR THE SOFT BULLETIN gets a bit much
also no one who listens to black metal gets to complain abt hardcore vox

As opposed to a great name like tUnE-yArDs or Hatchback? I mean, come on with that argument.

43. Real Estate — Days (361 points, 11 votes, two first place votes)
P4K: 9P&J: 32
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 31 January 2012 20:10 (twelve years ago) link
not sure if i voted that 1 in this poll, but it was #1 on my p&j ballot
It's good stuff, just way too long and relentless for me to have ever heard the entire thing in one listening. Queen Of Hearts was one of my favourite tunes of the year, the rest does pretty much the same thing in different ways.

what in the world does the soft bulletin have to do with that fucked up record?
― call all destroyer, Tuesday, 31 January 2012 20:11 (twelve years ago) link
seriously these vox are no different to all the hardcore vox i listened to in the 90s. What is so off-putting other than the fact you maybe dont dig hardcore? Contenderizer im surprised at you re the vox.
I really like this so far
oh cool Real Estate!

Days is such a great little jangle rock record.

xxxpost Sorry, that was about Fucked Up, not Real Estate who I don't think I really understand yet.

Nothing really sticks out on Days (the cover is appropriate) but what a great vibe. I found myself listening to it three or four times in a row at work.

yeah it doesn't 'feel' like a #1 album of the year, but i returned to it a ton, and it's so, so good at what it does that i just played it more than anything last year
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 31 January 2012 20:12 (twelve years ago) link
This is Feelies worship indie.

like that real estate record, it feels slight but i think jangle pop is kinda slight by nature

i like this record, didn't make my ballot but the first few tracks are especially nice, and i love the hypnotic groove the last track settles into at the end
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 31 January 2012 20:14 (twelve years ago) link
well i like the fucked up record so far so you cant say it about me.but BM vox are different to hardcore and clearly some prefer one to the other (or hate both)
― Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Tuesday, 31 January 2012 20:15 (twelve years ago) link
Man, "Green Aisles" totally stands out for me, but the vibe on the whole record is fantastic.
― Gonjasufjanstephen O'Malley (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 31 January 2012 20:15 (twelve years ago) link
I hope they explore the sound of that last cut a bit further. Really nice evolutionary step.

but I really dont get the hatred for this guys voice at all.
― Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Tuesday, 31 January 2012 20:16 (twelve years ago) link
The Real Estate is another one I voted for. Very monochromatic, but for this type of music that's a compliment. Sort of early REM meets Unrest meets Heavenly. Nails that wistful-happy-sad vibe perfectly.
― o. nate, Tuesday, 31 January 2012 20:16 (twelve years ago) link
this is dreadful. i'm trying "it's real" and it's just so aimless and feeble...sounds like it should be soundtracking a tv advert for a washing powder called nostalgia. oh look the video is basically a fucking instagram tint stretched out and they look like complete douches.

Im hoping Woods might place now. That would be great. Always disappointed they didn't make it in previous years.
