sounds like a more 'pop' Steppin Up. bit boring tbf. i hope a proper version of Gen NEY proper is on this album though.

"Bad Girls" was on the Vicki Leekx mixtape from Dec '10 and was one of the songs used to promote it.

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Tuesday, 31 January 2012 20:47 (twelve years ago) link

indeed. this is the finished version off the album supposedly, it's produced by Danja whoever that might be.

piscesx, Tuesday, 31 January 2012 21:07 (twelve years ago) link

With Timbaland, Hills produced a wide catalog of songs that helped return the famous producer to prominence in 2006 with an ongoing string of hits throughout the year until present, including "Put You On The Game" by rapper The Game, "Promiscuous" and "Say It Right" by Nelly Furtado, "SexyBack", "What Goes Around...Comes Around" and "My Love" by Justin Timberlake among others, such as "Love Story" by Katharine McPhee, "Innocence" and "Earth Intruders" by Björk, and "Give It to Me" and "The Way I Are" off Timbaland's second solo album.[5]

In 2007, Danja produced "Gimme More" for Britney Spears, as well as "Break the Ice" and five other tracks for her Blackout album. The following year, he produced "Kill the Lights" and four other songs for Britney Spears' album Circus, but only three songs appeared on the album.

His works in recent years include, Madonna, "4 Minutes", Mariah Carey on her song "Migrate" from E=MC², Keri Hilson on her song "Knock You Down" from In a Perfect World..., P!nk on her song "Sober" from Funhouse.

I love the video

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Friday, 3 February 2012 18:35 (twelve years ago) link

tbh i would be quite happy if the video just consisted of the bit where she's dressed in black in front of the bonfire for the entire length of the track. she is stunning.

pandemic, Friday, 3 February 2012 18:37 (twelve years ago) link

whereas I was hoping for a continuous shot of her chilling on the side of the car while it's up on two wheels

lol and the screenshot for the vid is DJP's fav bit!

pandemic, Friday, 3 February 2012 18:45 (twelve years ago) link

The video is great. Wonder why noone thought of making a music video of people doing the two wheel stunt before.

It reminds me of Beyonce's 'run the world' but this one is actually fun to watch and it probably was 1/20 of the production costs of Beyonce.

Moka, Friday, 3 February 2012 18:48 (twelve years ago) link

genuinely surprised people love it. it looks like an advert to me

Adverts can be fun to watch.

Also crosspost from the Madonna thread. MIA as a cheerleader... her contribution is pretty much null but she looks great.

max buzzword (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 3 February 2012 18:53 (twelve years ago) link

hey, that's kind of fun. silly, but fun. chorus reminds me strongly of the dandy warhols' "bohemian like you", but that's okay, i love that song.

Why would it be... it's visually impressive. When you talk about the video you say oh yeah it's the one that does the two wheel thing. And you get great stills like the frozen frame in the video.

Moka, Friday, 3 February 2012 19:00 (twelve years ago) link

I'm positive I've seen that stunt in other hip hop videos is all

Love the video because it's a continuation of what she does best (besides music). Trolling. It's 2 Fast 2 Furious: Orientalism Edition but after the panning MAYA got, consensus was 'quit with the politics and noise and just make more global pop hitz.' Et voila.

I dunno. I remain convinced that she knows what she's doing and laughing her ass off the whole time.

Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Friday, 3 February 2012 19:20 (twelve years ago) link

she prob does, but the music can still be terrible

J0rdan S., Friday, 3 February 2012 19:21 (twelve years ago) link

Arab Spring for Top Shop is hilarious tho.

I mean. Oil barrels! Women driving! Hijabs! Bling! Swag!

Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Friday, 3 February 2012 19:22 (twelve years ago) link

For sure. I was just talking about the video. The song isn't bad. Don't know if I love it or not. I was hoping for something a bit less rote/well-trod, especially after stuff like Space and Tell Me Why and Born Free and Teqkilla but it might grow on me.

Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Friday, 3 February 2012 19:24 (twelve years ago) link

after the panning MAYA got,

is that the general consensus? I kinda love the album myself

max buzzword (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 3 February 2012 19:24 (twelve years ago) link

Ditto. I was disappointed on first listen, but it quickly grew on me. And the VickiLeekcx mixtape was even better.

Let A Man Come In And Do The Cop Porn (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Friday, 3 February 2012 19:26 (twelve years ago) link

MAYA was pretty much stomped on by most critics, yeah

me too! MAYA's far and away my favorite MIA album. except for piracy funds terrorism, but maybe that doesn't count.

Arab Spring for Top Shop is hilarious tho.

I mean. Oil barrels! Women driving! Hijabs! Bling! Swag!

^ this. love the shit out of that video, way more than the song itself, which is good but kind of a retrenchment. she is trolling HARD tho.

adolf jingle balls (contenderizer), Friday, 3 February 2012 19:28 (twelve years ago) link

I love MAYA, but it mostly got panned by critics in the bigger venues - newspapers, bigger music sites, etc. etc.

That + truffle fries, etc.

Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Friday, 3 February 2012 19:41 (twelve years ago) link

Honestly, I wish Bad Girls was a little bit more in the direction that MAYA and the rest of Vicki Leekx were going. The song feels a little safe by comparison.

It's the video that makes it knowing for me, and more than a rote KALA retread.

Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Friday, 3 February 2012 19:42 (twelve years ago) link

if she was gonna retread kala couldn't she at least have retrod "hussel" or "bamboo banga" rather than the dodgy timbaland track

(i don't hate the song but it's not exactly demanding to be heard again)

(god "hussel" is her peak 4 real though)

Hussel is fucking astounding. Up there with Amazon and 10 Dollar.

Actually, that entre run of KALA's first five tracks is pretty much perfect.

Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Friday, 3 February 2012 19:48 (twelve years ago) link

honestly I can (and usually do) skip "Jimmy" without reservation or regret

"$20" and "XR2" later on totally make up for it and more, though

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Friday, 3 February 2012 20:08 (twelve years ago) link

"world town" is the best track on KALA imo

DO NOT CALL (The Brainwasher), Friday, 3 February 2012 20:19 (twelve years ago) link

well, there is one track towards the end that's pretty good. forget what it's called though.

adolf jingle balls (contenderizer), Friday, 3 February 2012 20:22 (twelve years ago) link

she looks amazingly gorge for 37 don't she?

piscesx, Friday, 3 February 2012 20:34 (twelve years ago) link

She's 37 for real? Yeah, she does.

At any rate, I unsurprisingly love this.

the video is so great. the whole thing has an amazing swagger and style !
the song itself was good and still is but I find the extra part doesn't bring much to was was already there and by the end it gets a bit boring.
still, this could and should be a huge hit !
