Maar om ook wat zinnigs te melden hebben over de hedendaagse muziek is weer een heel ander verhaal en daar doel ik op. Hoe kan men iets doorgronden zonder de basis te kennen? Wat bedoel je dan precies met 'muziek' in deze - de structuren? Of de geschiedenis van verschillende genres?(Waarschijnlijk heb je gelijk hoor, maar ik zie de relevantie niet zo. Wie zijn die mensen dan, die beweren iets te hebben 'doorgrond' zonder de basis te kennen?)

Hm, als je er dan maar eens een boek over gelezen hebt of zo vind ik het eigenlijk wel best. En dat merk je zo, bij een journalist.Iemand die zich beroepsmatig bezighoudt met echt direct door die bluesknakkers beinvloede muziek hoort die gasten natuurlijk wel eens gehoord te hebben ja. Maar ik ben nogal van de pop. En waar blues-country-rock meestal nog wel tot de basiskennis van velen behoren, is dat met pop-ijkpunten als Kurt Weill - musicals - Cole Porter - Burt Bacharach - Girl Groups vaak een stuk minder (ook bij mijzelf).

Soul is veel meer sophisticated. De verwarring ligt volgens mij ook een beetje bij het feit dat blues voor veel mensen ruige Chicago blues is, waarbij ze dan de rustige varianten uit het zuiden vergeten.
