Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 30 January 2012 20:09 (twelve years ago) link

Surprised KRIT was so low. I'd have thought that was one of the consensus raps albums of the year.

Mohombi Khush Hua (ShariVari), Monday, 30 January 2012 20:09 (twelve years ago) link

PP II is a great album, for which I voted

I chipped a tooth on the buttbone (askance johnson), Monday, 30 January 2012 20:10 (twelve years ago) link

one of my favorite albums of the year

what's a good track to check out

the third kind of dubstep (Jordan), Monday, 30 January 2012 20:10 (twelve years ago) link

Wow! surprised to see Psychic Paramount make it. Happy, but sincerely surprised.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 30 January 2012 20:10 (twelve years ago) link

btw i somehow missed the voting for this so whenever i say i like an album just imagine that it's a couple of places higher on the list

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 30 January 2012 20:10 (twelve years ago) link

Yay! to The Psychic Paramount.

Damo Suzuki's Parrot, Monday, 30 January 2012 20:10 (twelve years ago) link

Have been meaning to check this out for ages, but it's not on Spotify...can anyone point to a track or two on Soundcloud/Youtube?

two lights crew (seandalai), Monday, 30 January 2012 20:11 (twelve years ago) link

i totally missed the voting too :(
will not allow that to curb my opinions here, however.

xp wasn't a great year for rap albums really

ciderpress, Monday, 30 January 2012 20:11 (twelve years ago) link

Woohoo, another one I voted for! This album really respects the sound of the inside of my head.

La Lechera, Monday, 30 January 2012 20:12 (twelve years ago) link

as I remember it, Outloud required me to have access to the actual files, which meant I was rarely in a place where I could use it. if this is inaccurate, please feel free to correct me elsewhere.

You can post tracks from Soundcloud now too.

You can, or you can also hang out and talk nonsense while letting other people pick some fine tunes for you to listen to.

emil.y, Monday, 30 January 2012 20:12 (twelve years ago) link

ha i don't really remember which tracks are which because they have really indistinct titles ... try this: http://youtu.be/4s1ppHxvzIg

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 30 January 2012 20:12 (twelve years ago) link

Probably should have voted for that, but found it really exhausting to listen to all that much.

Derartu Cthulhu (NickB), Monday, 30 January 2012 20:12 (twelve years ago) link

hopefully that didn't embed

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 30 January 2012 20:12 (twelve years ago) link

I didn't listen to Psychic Paramount enough to vote for it. Will give it more of a go now, I think.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Monday, 30 January 2012 20:13 (twelve years ago) link

gah i really need to listen to that record

call all destroyer, Monday, 30 January 2012 20:14 (twelve years ago) link

i cut the psychic paramount from my ballot at the very end so glad it still placed

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Monday, 30 January 2012 20:14 (twelve years ago) link

I posted a track from it in the Chicago thread once but no one ever responded ;_;

Sorry, don't remember it!

jaymc, Monday, 30 January 2012 20:14 (twelve years ago) link

all this outloud talk and yet none of you folks are ever on there when i go on (except J3ff T who i suspect is on there 24/7)

when are the parties at??

ciderpress, Monday, 30 January 2012 20:14 (twelve years ago) link

So have all the PP II voters chimed in already?

EZ Snappin, Monday, 30 January 2012 20:14 (twelve years ago) link

what's the name of the music style of the psychic paramount? post-rock-without-the-calm-part-before-the-crescendo?

alex in mainhattan, Monday, 30 January 2012 20:14 (twelve years ago) link

noise?

ciderpress, Monday, 30 January 2012 20:15 (twelve years ago) link

psychedelic noise?

La Lechera, Monday, 30 January 2012 20:15 (twelve years ago) link

Usually a few (or more) people in there during evening hours my time (US Eastern).

Johnny Fever, Monday, 30 January 2012 20:15 (twelve years ago) link

midnight uk time -3am seems to be the busiest time in outloud. the house cru used to do before midnight but dunno where they all went the past few months.
bump the outloud thread and people will join though

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Monday, 30 January 2012 20:15 (twelve years ago) link

ok thanks i think i must be showing up too late at night

ciderpress, Monday, 30 January 2012 20:16 (twelve years ago) link

Hey, I voted for this too. What the hell?

Gamera died for our sins (J3ff T.), Monday, 30 January 2012 20:16 (twelve years ago) link

they feel kinda math rock-y to me but with psychedelic overtones

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 30 January 2012 20:17 (twelve years ago) link

outloud certainly changed jeff's taste in music

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Monday, 30 January 2012 20:17 (twelve years ago) link

second time i've used the phrase "math rock" on this thread, apparently i'm really pining for the return of math rock

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 30 January 2012 20:17 (twelve years ago) link

okay Psychic Paramount is fantastic

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Monday, 30 January 2012 20:17 (twelve years ago) link

I voted for this one, it has a great sound and a continuous rolling swagger. A bit exhausting as a full listen though, I've mostly been playing individual tracks on my radio show and they work really well.

sleeve, Monday, 30 January 2012 20:18 (twelve years ago) link

listened to two psychic paramount tracks and i'm into it. kinda like a dronier, dancier tortoise, but harder & better than that sounds? actually i like it in some of the same ways i like liturgy.

the third kind of dubstep (Jordan), Monday, 30 January 2012 20:18 (twelve years ago) link

DJP loves Iron Maiden

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Monday, 30 January 2012 20:18 (twelve years ago) link

C'mon is the first Low album I've really *loved* since Things We Lost In The Fire.

I'd assumed that Veronica Falls album was bullshit tweepop but maybe I should give it a shot.

Matt DC, Monday, 30 January 2012 20:19 (twelve years ago) link

Wait, people are talking about me on here. I'm confused! Why is this happening? And yeah, I used to have a pretty serious outloud addiction, but I'm trying to curb it.

Gamera died for our sins (J3ff T.), Monday, 30 January 2012 20:20 (twelve years ago) link

Heh, for some reason I assumed Veronica Falls was like some The Head and The Heart type folk that was made by dudes that were making Vagrant style emo four years ago.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Monday, 30 January 2012 20:20 (twelve years ago) link

n/a, would I like Psychic Paramount?

jaymc, Monday, 30 January 2012 20:21 (twelve years ago) link

the various designations of "metal" are seriously the most vexing thing to me

"Veronica Falls" sounds like Hollywood sadcore to me.

jaymc, Monday, 30 January 2012 20:21 (twelve years ago) link

I just call(PP) mind blowing, loud psychedlic noise. I believe they were labelled post-rock in their formative years.

Damo Suzuki's Parrot, Monday, 30 January 2012 20:22 (twelve years ago) link

See I like PP II as a full album because it maintains the heavy swirl and general noisy loud feeling for a sustained period. One track is great but it's more effort for me to get into- and then out of- that mood than it is to just kind of let it go for 40 min or so (or however long the album is, not sure exactly, am at work computer atm) I can see how people wouldn't have the patience for it, but that's part of what I like.

La Lechera, Monday, 30 January 2012 20:22 (twelve years ago) link

Hollywood sadcore goes for the dreamy slow vibe, doesn't it? That's nothing like what V. Falls do.
